The Snooza D1000 sounds pretty tough. I would like to get one for my naughty 'bed destroyers' but they are quite expensive so I am going to have to wait a while.

Seven Months Old And Still Destroying Everything!
harper replied to IncrediJack's topic in Puppy Chat
I have the terrible twins here. One of them has learnt to pull down door handles and open doors from either side so it makes it a bit tricky when you cant even put something away safely behind a closed door. Naughty pups but just too lovable. Whats a pair of shoes (or 4) between friends? -
My heart goes out to you, shellbyville. What a devestating loss.

Training Class For Aggressive Dogs
harper replied to sas's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
That all went like clock work on the clip but would doing something like that be likely to transfer to the real world? Even though the dogs calm down after a time could this method actually teach and reinforce to the dogs that on initial introduction with other dogs they are free to go into a frenzied drive state? If dealing with a DA dog would you not be wanting to reinforce indifference and non- reactivity to other dogs from the get go? -
Romp and rest easy at the bridge little man. :p

Normal Thyroid Levels - Trying To Find The Normal
harper replied to Trisven13's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi Trisven, I don't know about approximate thyroid levels for different breeds but thought I would put this link up that has some interesting reading about hypothyroidism in dogs. link My boy had his T4 and THS tested and even though they came back in the normal range, because of his symptoms, the vet trialled him on the thyroid medication Thyroxine to see if it made any difference. It didn't and he came off the thyroxine but I think many dogs live whole and healthy lives on Thyroid medication. -
Hope he is back to his normal self in no time, GG.
-
I wouldn't have thought you would need a spot on if you are using Sentinel Spectrum as it should cover fleas.

Thank you for your responses. I am in the initial stages of this so am quite up in the air at the moment. I am not sure of the level of experience this vet has with joint problems but I will definately be getting other opinions.

My approx 7 month old foster dog has just been diagnosed with hip dysplasia in one hip. The vet said to get him xrayed again in 6 months and that there is a small chance the hip could grow in to the socket. Has anyone had a young dog diagnosed with HD but had it grow in to the socket normally once the dog matures? I have done a search on HD as I have never had a dog with it but any advice or experiences would be much appreciated.

Cheeky Sophie must have been paying special attention to you when you told her that she calls the shots and has obviously applied that to your walks. I am sorry to hear that she has not been doing too well the last couple of days though, and am praying that it was just a bad day and that she has already or will soon pick up again. Sending positive wishes for Thursday and every day.

Prism Brand Dog Food In Perth
harper replied to sandgrubber's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
The lamb meal and rice formula looks ok. Lamb meal as first ingredient and no corn. Just personally, I am not that keen on having chicken by product meal as the first ingredient. I think chicken feet and heads and all the rest (feathers  ) are fine but just not as the first and main ingredient. -
It is so much easier with this new subforum. I have been visiting the Rotty forum to get updates on the the little darlings that are not well and it is much easier not having to rifle through pages of other stuff to find out how they are going. It is also a very good resource. Thinking of you all at this difficult time. :D for Sophie.

Huge Sebaceous Cyst On My Dog's Back
harper replied to ricey's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Ricey, I am not sure if this happens when they burst or not but my old girl who was terminally ill had one on her back and we had it completely aspirated a few times and it would come back not too long after so maybe just in case don't use the $400 as a deposit on your holiday straight away. -
My dog whines and I try to ignore him but I think I sometimes just glance over without even realising it and also because it sometimes startles me and I check to see if he is ok. So I know I intermittently reinforce it. I'll have to start using my peripheral vision a bit more too erny. I was mainly trying to use the whining thing as an example but I probably should have used similar to poodlefans....... ETA.... Do dogs ever use submissive gestures as a means to increase their heirachy in the pack?
-
I have been wondering about this recently. I have heard people say they have a dominant dog or a submissive dog but is there such thing as a submissive/dominant dog? Is it often a dominance thing when a dog displays submissive body language with attention seeking behaviour such as whining? Is there a canine equivalent of passive aggression or is that just humanising?

Just wondering if anyone has used them and whether they stopped the burn patches on the lawn or not?

His thyroid levels have been tested. They came back well within the normal ranges. He was trialed on Thyroxine for a while to see if it made any difference but there was no change.

When my boy hit adolecents his coat changed for the worst and has remained that way. Along his flanks, ears and top of head seems to be kind of sparse, downy under coat. Colour- blue, fawn with some odd nearly black hairs. Around his neck, chest and down his back is longer....more like normal coat with no under coat but about a 1/4 of the way down his back from his shoulders it goes quite dry and wirey. Colour- blue/ nearly black. Would stripping the coat possibly help to make it thicken up for winter? He is a greyhound x mutt.

harper replied to Lemonlime's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thanks for that InspectorRex. Just wondering if you would test a mutt with definately one but possibly two of the breeds you mentioned that can have the mutant gene. He has had the annual heart worm injection before with no problems but I don't want to take an unneccessary risk now that I have read this. If they don't have the gene does that mean that it is ok to use the invermictin. -

Just wondering how much approx the DNA test costs?
