  1. Hi, I have Havanese and do regular maintenance on the coat. You MUST use a conditioner and you should be washing once a week, or a fortnight. You need to be brushing every day, particularly if your dog is going through coat change, which it sounds like she is. Show dogs don't wear collars as they cause knots or matts. I would also say that yes, the coat is causing some problems too but if you use a conditioner, you should have less problems. You could also try using a leave in conditioner for added help... Also, get yourself a pin brush. These do a better job than trying to groom with a comb.
  2. Thanks guys for the info.I'm from Sydney and new to showing have heard that the grounds are very good.I'm looking forward to participating in all three shows and learning lots. Whilst they are lovely grounds, with plenty of shady trees, make sure you put your gazebo up so the Koalas don't leave a message on your head. Also, be careful of the nasty ants...
  3. I believe some groups were shown inside, in the sheds........
  4. State Bred isn't offered in every state, I know Tassie does. We split our dogs into different classes when we have dogs of the same age. State bred is often offered in specialties in NSW but never in All breeds shows. I notice it gets offered a lot in Queensland though. We are only allowed 7 classes in AB shows in NSW, which are usually 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10 & 11. I don't know if other states are different???
  5. I moved my Schipperke bitch straight into Aus bred when she hit 18 months. I did this as there were 3 dogs already in intermediate that were constantly getting BIG or RUBIG and therefore intermediate was being knocked out. There is also an older full brother being shown in intermediate so wanted to give them both a chance if they were entered at the same shows. Another place I show there are also 2 Schipp bitches in the same class and whilst my girl wins 95% of the time I like to give th2 others a chance too but bottom line is she's good enough and competitive enough to be in that class.
  6. I would say you are both innocent parties... the people that own the offending gazebo did not set out to purposely destroy your gazebo. Perhaps contact the Club who held the show and see if their insurance will cover it.
  7. The difference between you and Joe Public taking his/her dogs to a show is that you are aware of the appropriate behaviour for a dog show and secondly (and more importantly) I'm positive that you make sure that ALL your dogs shots are up to date.
  8. Having witnessed the behaviour of some dogs and in particular their owners at the local dog park, I would say NO they should not be allowed to bring their dogs to dog shows. I am also concerned about the fact that we make sure that our dogs shots are all up to date, which I doubt many pet owners do. So a big NO from me.
  9. The journal is always available on the 1st of the month from the Dogs NSW website... I never wait for the journal to arrive by post, it's too unreliable!!! Yes I realise that and have accessed it several times via the internet but it is becoming too unreliable and we pay for a service... and besides, I like to read it in the lounge room with a coffee and the extension lead on the PC isnt long enough Sorry I tried to help...
  10. My first dog, when I was very young, was an English Cocker Spaniel who I adored. My next dog was a Kelpie cross who was just gorgeous. Lovely temperament, faithful and very smart. About 3 years after she passed away I decided it was time to get another dog and a friend had litter of Bearded Collies, who became my next dog and introduced me to the world of dog showing. I then got another Beardie quickly followed by a Smooth Collie. Unfortunately the 2 breeds didn't get on very well together so the Smooth Collie found a new home (where he is loved and adored) and the 2nd Beardie also found a new home (where he is also loved and adored). One day I saw a Havanese and was totally enraptured by this little dog. I did some research, watched the breed for about 12 months and finally decided that was the breed for me. I now have several Havanese and couldn't see myself ever being without one. At the time I got my Beardie, my flatmate rescued a Schipperke (whose mother had passed away) and they became the 3rd breed within our family (I still have my original Beardie). My flatmate decided she wanted to show too and promptly got herself another Schipperke. I was aloso given a Schipp to show by a friend and whilst I do like the breed, Havanese will always be the breed for me. The only other breeds of dog that interest me are American Cockers (I just love all that coat they have) and Pomeranians. One day perhaps....

  12. Yes my bitch is the same, she will not eat very much when she is in whelp but she loves ice cream
  13. Nice to see the Schipps do so well under a breed specialist, particularly as she is normally very hard on her own breed. Congratulations, what a nice birthday present for you!!!
  14. not all country grounds are the same, some are very, very nice Yes I've been lucky to have shown on some very pretty & well maintained country grounds however, some of them are just cow paddocks and are to be avoided...
  15. I have a Dozer too!!! Dozer was the runt of the litter but he used to just plow his way through to the food or anything else that took his fancy. His showname is Devil in Disguise and he certainly is a little devil!!!
  16. I like this one u blue my mind blue bayou
  17. Not yet because the show isn't until Sunday
  18. No the pup must have been older, you cannot show a dog under 3 calendar months. 12 weeks is 3 months. It was the pups first show she was 12 weeks and 3 days. 52 weeks = 12 months, 26 weeks = 6 months, 13 weeks = 3 months

Pauline Hartwell was holding classes on Wednesday night at Castle Hill, sorry don't know the times for that or if she is still doing them. Give Pauline a ring and I'm sure she will be happy to help you out. 9634 6074 or email her at [email protected]
