The Non Sporting Dog Club Of Victoria 31 July 2011 Kcc Park
Havasneeze replied to a topic in General Dog Discussion
A very nice entry Hope you all have a great day!!! -
I would give him a little more time. He is a toy breed and they can be rather slow in both testes dropping. Just my opinion...

There are shows at Dubbo next weekend, Saturday, Sunday & Monday. I suggest you toddle along and watch how the rings run. It's a great way to learn... One thing I wouldn't recommend for a coated breed is a snake chain though I used to use it on my Bearded Collie without any problems but those kind of chains are NOT recommended for coated breeds. Good Luck with your show career...

Huge Yes, we did that last year and put them on the receipt letter. Judges must be informed of numbers and exhibit tags must be sent out by next Sunday. Apart from that, rule 7.4.8 "The Affiliate conducting an exhibition shall be responsible for observing the closing date for entries for that exhibition". We've discussed this on DoLforums before, and the popular interpretation was this means it's a decision for the club, not that anything that turns up after the closing date in the published schedule must be returned. Even the RASV extends the date to which it shall take entries! It is not unusual for Clubs in NSW to close the show on the Sunday prior to a Show (7 days). Nobody has a problem with that and in fact, appreciate the fact that they can get late entries in. The NSW Chihuahua Club Show that was held at Easter closed 2 days before the Show. The object of the exercise is to get as many entries as possible and thereby, make money for the Club so they can keep running Shows for the benefit of Exhibitors ;)

Of COURSE you must scrapbook her first show number!!! And her first ribbon! And you DID get some of her first haircut trimmings, didn't you??!! You will be in thirty years' time if you don't! Don't forget to collect her puppy teeth when they fall out. I know someone who did that, I really don't know how they found them all since I've never seen one of my puppies teeth...

To me a "professional handler" is a person who is paid to handle dogs for others. In the USA its probably someone who does it full time for a living. Not sure that's possible here. I don't see it having anything to do directly with experience or wins but its unlikely you'd pay someone to handle for you if they weren't good at it. To me this pretty much sums it up. To be a "professional" at something i think it just means you make a living from it. You dont necessarily need to be qualified or even good at it i guess. Sorry I'd have to disagree with some of that. To me a "professional" is someone who is paid to do it, not necessarily makes a living from it. I used to be classed as a "professional" ten pin bowler and that was because I won money playing the game, not because I made a living from it...

Yes it is a lovely show, well run and absolutely lovely people who try to help in any way they can. My only complaint is the burrs. Showing a coated breed is an absolute nightmare. It took me 2 hours to get the burrs out of just one dog. I know they can't do much about them but they're still really annoying...

Working dogs are usually in rings 1 or 3 but as the group is split, both rings will be used. When you get your numbers, you should find out from that which ring you will be in. This is a link for a map of the rings. Hope it helps... ring map

276 in the show both days. A lovely mini smooth dachie was BIS both days. Sheltie went RUBIS on Saturday. American Cocker was RUBIS on Sunday...

I know several in my breed who have (same people with different dogs) I have seen the SAME dog non-awarded at least 10 times. Each time the exhibitor asked why it was not given its Challenge, they were given the same answer. I am not sure if they kept going because it HAD been awarded in the past (and I truly hope not as it was a major and obvious fault) or if they didn't believe the judges. They had a bitch which was a nice example of the breed and were always awarded challenges for her so not sure why they kept going with the other one..... I was going to mention this particular dog (yes, I know which one you mean) but I couldn't work out how to say it politely so I just kept quiet but in saying that, I did actually speak to the owner of said dog and she was of the opinion that whilst his coat was incorrect, she felt that he better conformed to the standard than some of the other dogs she was showing and this was the reason why she continued showing him All I could do was shake my head
-
Bottom line is: it's the Judges interpretation of the standard, on the day ;)

Firstly, let me say that I take exception to someone saying that my rare breed (or any rare breed) is a problem. I also think you are missing the point. If you are getting 6 point challenges week in week out, you are getting BOB anyway so 4 BOB placings would mean nothing. Also, it is more difficult to win with a rare breed than with a numerically larger breed. I am aware that many Judges are told, whilst going through JTS in my state, that they should be putting up the more popular breeds, not the smaller numbered or rare breeds. So if you think showing a rare breed to CH is a piece of cake, I urge you to give it a go yourself instead of "assuming" that ALL rare or numerically small breeds are "petrol" champions.

Same thing happens in the city and you will find that most of those that do attend country shows, do so because they believe the judging is fairer in the country, well more so than in the city...
-
Yes this topic has been touched on before. Whilst your suggestion has merit, it is important to remember that the Judge on the day signs a Certificate that states "I am clearly of the opinion that this exhibit is of such outstanding merit as to be worthy to qualify for the title of 'Champion'" and does have the right to withhold a Challenge. Please also note that those of us with rare breeds, in my case Havanese, do NOT have a specialty show and under your rules, we would never have any dogs titled. The Havanese achieved a 25 point BOB at last years Melbourne Royal and again at this years Sydney Royal. I believe you need to think things through more clearly before coming up with these types of suggestions....

Penrith K & O @ Erskine Park, Saturday
Havasneeze replied to Havasneeze's topic in General Dog Discussion
Both Sheneen Bendixen & Lainie Knox are All Breeds and generally pretty quick so the only problems I foresee is if there is a clash in the middle and more than likely a clash when Group Specials are being done... -

Gentamicin Injection
Havasneeze replied to Pretty Miss Emma's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Slightly OT but still on the subject of gentamicin... my father was given gentamicin when in Hospital for a lung infection. One unfortunate side-effect is the toxicity to the sensory cells in the ear, which has caused my father to now have a balance problem. I don't know if it would have the same effect in dogs, but I would suspect it could and probably would... -
I heard on the grapevine that it was -10 in Harden this morning so they had to start the show 1.5 hours later than advertised due to it being too slippery. Was anybody there?

When I was a kid, I used to walk down to the shops on Sunday with my dog and get 2 chocolate paddle pops. One for me, one for the dog....

Gilgandra Kc July Double Entries Still Open
Havasneeze replied to Libertybrook's topic in General Dog Discussion
I believe he is accepting entries until last mail on 24th June -
I don't mind buying a catalogue, when they are reasonably priced. I will not pay $7 for a catalogue that covers a champ & open show but only shows the entries for the champ show, as entry for the open show is "pay on the day" or $9 for a catalogue that covers both shows but I'm only entered in one show!!!
