  1. In this thread you've told me to do a number of things I've already done. It's not apparent that you understand who your audience is, which is why you sound to me like you're reeling off a set piece. I haven't bothered with a resume but it's sufficient to say you have leaped in without checking first on this one. If you were looking for approbation and commiseration only, and not advice, maybe you should have stated that in your post? And maybe if you want the audience to understand who you are, and respond in what you consider an appropriate manner, you could post that information or your resume at the beginning of all threads? I think you are both missing SSM's point - this thread is about actions, not feelings. Someone can feel disappointed/angry/devastated etc but still act courteously. I am sure SSM would have been polite and well behaved to the judge who declared that her dog was too small, regardless of how she felt. Personally, I feel the attitude "toughen up or you wont survive" is overused in the dog showing world, and particularly so on this forum . Why should it be the courteous and sensitive that have to change, rather than the rude and vengeful? Touché
  2. Then I guess you don't wanna hear about the dog that got poisoned at the Sydney Royal a few years back....
  3. I didn't get a gazebo till I started taking more than one dog to show and I'm still reticent to pull it out unless I have to. Give me a good old umbrella any day, much easier. As for the trolley, as I originally showed bearded collies I have a large single berth trolley but when I started showing Havanese I got myself a 4 berth trolley that I only use as one berth but have the necessary items to convert it to 2 or 4 bays...
  4. Yep, I'd agree that a trolley is a MUST. Saves lugging everything by hand, you can just throw it in the trolley and wheel everything to the rings.
  5. Speaking of bling leads, Ros tells me that she will be having a bling lead stall set up at Lakes (which I think is on next weekend, please correct me if I'm wrong) with ALL her bling leads on there, so don't forget to bring your money with you. She has some gorgeous creations and they're well worthwhile. :D Links for the website and for facebook for the bling leads website: http://www.snazzypoochleads.com/ fb link: http://www.facebook.com/BlingShowLeads?ref=profile
  6. Have you considered getting a Schipperke (Belgian barge dog). They're about 12 inches high and need little grooming. They were used on the barges and guarded them when the Captain was sleeping, hence the name "Little Captain" being attached to them. They make great guard dogs and really are fantastic pets. They seem to tick all the boxes.... I would suggest a Havanese but they need a LOT of grooming though they are lovely dogs.
  7. Aw thanks for the offer :D ...And, I would take you up on it, but with the squishyness in the toy ring at HB I always get nervous visiting you guys cause last time we went up there we got 'yelled' at for making someones dogs pipe up ;) Anyone whose dog can't handle seeing a dog that is a bit different needs to get out and socialise it more! Unfortunately toys seem to react badly to bigger dogs. It's not about socialization, it's more about their Napoleon Syndromes going into overdrive at the sight of a big dog The best examples of this are Chihuahuas. They don't seem to realise that they're breakfast and it seems the bigger the dog, the more noise they make!!!
  8. Try calling Peter or Trish Cutler at Petcetera. They do her credit card payments for her so would be able to contact her or give you her number.
  9. Bermagui is the week before Sapphire Coast shows and is about an hours drive north of Wolumla. I believe it was worse at Bermagui as they cancelled the Obedience on the Friday Night. I was at Wolumla (Sapphire Coast) and we were all wading around the rings. Getting the gear to and from the car was a nightmare. They lay straw for the Sunday as the ground had gotten so wet that the trolleys were getting stuck and making big holes in the ground. It could have been worse though, they had laid a new concrete path from the parking down to the grounds. If we didn't have that we would have been carrying those trolleys instead.... :D
  10. There are trees around the outside of the ground. It is an L shape and therefore there is some shade available. Not as much parking at Glendenning as there is at Erskine Park. There's a small carpark and then there's the grass. Good Luck and I hope you have fun
  11. I always try and be polite and say Congratulations or well done but I do have a list of people that I don't bother with any more. I choose to say nothing at all to those people. A good example is this one: Said person got BOB with their dog and I Congratulated them on their BOB. My dog got a class in group (on the same day, at the same show). Said person walked past me and didn't even bother acknowledging me nor congratulating me on my win. One that is on my "I don't bother with you" list. I always like the saying "One day a Rooster, next day a feather duster" We can't always be winners but good sportsmanship makes for a good day out, win or lose!!!
  12. There is a Formula 1 Motel at Homebush, very close to the showgrounds. I'm guessing that the dog will stay in the car or in a trailer??? Don't know if it's pet friendly but it says it's gay friendly http://www.wotif.com/hotel/View?hotel=W582...mp;viewType=all I always try and book my accommodation through wotif, I seem to get good rates through them. Might be worth contacting them and see what they have to say...

  15. Ahh, I come from Kurri Kurri so would go a different way to you. I turn off the Pacific Hwy at Tomago (just over the Hexam bridge) and go down Tomago Rd/Cabbage Tree Rd to Williamtown Airport. Do you know Richardson road that goes under the freeway and follows the edge of Grahamstown Dam? I think it's the first exit off the freeway Raymond Terrace/Nelsons Bay. There are two ways you can go: 1. Follow Richardson Rd right through to the big roundabout at Campvale, and turn left onto Medowie road. Follow Medowie Rd to the next roundabout and turn left onto Ferodale Rd, then left again at the next roundabout to the showground. 2. Follow Richardson Rd past the picnic grounds/pontoon at Grahamstown Dam and turn left onto a pokey little road that continues along the shoreline, this road is Grahamstown Rd. Take the first left onto Fairlands Rd and follow it to the end. It Tee intersects onto Ferodale Rd - turn right. Follow Ferodale Rd untill you hit the first roundabout and turn right into the showgrounds As for shade, there is plenty of trees along the edge of the showground, but nothing on the field (the show is held on a footy oval). ETA: Bring mozzie repellent! They are really bad in the afternoon and into the night. Thanks for the tip I loathe mozzies!! I always have aerogard in the car, will be bringing the mozzie coils and insectrepelling sunscreen too Now since I will have the 2 legged brats too and hubby is there anywhere to get dinner like a hanmburger and chips or anything close by?? Is there going to be a canteen? We are spolied at hillsborough home is like 5 mins away so is maccas subway and more imprtantly decent coffee. I get to sit with the pup while hubby takes the kids for time out LOL Our 3x3 might seem a little small is there is no escape!! Is there a playground there?? silly questions I know! Do most go ring side or under the trees? bec oh and jess there is NO question medowie will be the place to be!! since they have all bailed on deb and I and are going to necknock instead They run a good canteen at Medowie so you shouldn't have any problems. Are you camping there Bec?
  16. We'll be there. Where are you coming from? If it's from Newy, turn left at the RAAF base roundabout and follow that road straight through into Medowie. The first roundabout into Medowie turn left again (Ferodale Rd) and follow Ferodale rd to the next roundabout and turn left. Viola! the rings will be right in front of you Thanks for your help.......I'll be coming from Raymond Terrace way (I live out past Maitland)...is the RAAF roundabout you mention off the freeway? Can you also let me know how much shade is there. As I don't have a gazebo as yet I would like to set up my crate & rug etc under some trees...otherwise I may need to bring a large umbrella. Cheers Sorry, no trees at Medowie
  17. I usually google my accommodation needs by putting in "dog friendly accommodation in *****" This generally gives me a list of places that don't mind if you have dogs. The motel that we stayed in last weekend allowed us to have the dogs in the bathroom in crates. We only put one in there as he is rather young and likes being close to his mum. The weekend before we stayed at a dog friendly establishment that allowed you to have the dogs loose in the room. They asked that you brought the bedding for the dog and that they not be allowed on the furniture. There are places around that don't mind dogs, it sometimes just takes a bit of looking to find them.
  18. My black cat is Buggar cos he's always been a little buggar My black & white Havanese baby is Dozer cos he was the smallest in the litter and when he wanted to get through the others he would put his little head down and go for it, like a little Bull Dozer My little girl baby Hav is Diva (cos her show name is Leading Lady) or Devious which suits her really well cos she's a devious little clown The mother of the pups is Peaches cos she's cream with gold ears The father of the pups is Doc cos his show name is Whats up Doc
  19. 16 Schipps geeze, wonder where they all come from Thank you
  20. How many Havanese and Schipperkes please?

  22. How did you get started in showing? A friends mother had been showing Bearded Collies for many years so when I got my first show dog I decided to give it a go, with her help and guidance. What was your first dog/breed? Blue Roan Cocker Spaniel that I got when I was 7 years old and I wanted to show her but my parents weren't interested and we didn't know anybody who showed dogs anyways. First show dog (that I actually got into the ring with) was a Bearded Collie. What is your favourite memory? (Doesn't need to be a win but just a significant moment, maybe the moment you knew you were hooked?) The first time I won a class in group I was hooked. The breeder of my beardie had been helping me with grooming and showing the dog. I had recently started doing all those things myself and won a class in group so I was over the moon. Who do you thank from your early days? Kathy Tasker from Filial Bearded Collies. She was a fantastic help and still is. Who really helps/helped you out and you wouldn't be where you are without them? See above and Betty Stepkovitch for taking me under her wing.
  23. That's an "it's just up the road" sort of show :D
  24. I find this a little confusing as there are 2 shows and gundogs will be shown each day
