Canine Chirpractor / Greyhound Physio Type Person
jm266 replied to Allerzeit's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi Chris I suspect that Allerzeit was refering to George Scofield, who has since passed away about 18 months ago. (He was 99) -
Had to buy an extra crate when two year old BC(Not crate trained at that time) kept hogging the puppy's crate. Dog is now 11 years old and still chooses crate.

Another one here with an Addisonian Dog, the symptoms can very vague, mine vomited occassionally, but never went off his food, he was also was anaemic . He had no diarrhoea or rear end weakness. The test for Addisons is called the ACTH stim test. My dog has Atypical Addisons which is a cortisol deficiency only. Primary and Secondary Addisons involves electrolyte imbalances. Research now suggests that this is an underdiagosed conditon because the symptoms are so vague and can mimic other conditions, so it can often be missed
-
I too have a dog on daily steroids, he is deficient in cortisol, it has turned him into a shocking thief, he is always hungry and I must be hyper vigilant if there is any food around. I don't try and fill him up, so I can't tell if the hunger ever goes away though I doubt that it ever does, unless the dosage of the steroid is decreased. The worst thing, IMO, is the state of his coat, it was never fantastic, but since being diagnosed 18 months ago it has noticeablely thinned and doesn't grow back as well. He still has a slightly bald patch from an ultrasound taken at that time and the vet does not need to shave an area when he has blood taken. The way I look at it, although it is distressing to have a dog like this it is a small price to pay for him to have a relatively normal life.

Sorry for your loss. R.I.P Benson. Condolences to your family
-
My heart sank when I saw the title of your thread Jules The sudden death of a loved pet is truly tragic and you never can prepare for it. Take care of yourself and use any support you have. R.I.P Brock I always enjoyed looking at photos of you. You were such a gorgeous boy.

No worries, glad you are able to get to the vet tonight. One of my boys had a blockage just over 12 months ago, few symptoms apart from the flatness and water puking. He swallowed a peach stone. Hope all goes well for Gus
-
Hi Spot, Sorry to hear Gus is unwell. I am in Wallan, and keep unsociable hours, so am available if you need any assistance to get to the vet.

YES!! They can be. My BC used to love playing with Pine Cones until he snorted a piece the size of my little fingernail. It got stuck up back of his nose, and took four weeks to diagnose and 45mins to remove by a specialist. It also considerably lightened my wallet. Pine Cones are now treated as sticks in this household, they are not for playing with AT ALL!!!

Tan Track - Botanical Gardens, Time Track Is Lit Til?
jm266 replied to Isabel964's topic in General Dog Discussion
The Tan is 3.8kms, no idea how long it takes. There is quite a hill on Anderson St. I am fairly sure the lights go out at midnight. It is quite busy in the evening in summertime, lots of joggers, walkers and dog walkers. -
So sorry for your loss RIP beautiful boy

Fantastic photo. Have voted. Good luck

Yep, I call my dogs the fun police, they alert me if they think the cats are up to no good and break up any tiffs. Last week they dobbed in the new cat when he managed to get out of the cat run which I was completing.

Great positive good news story. Congratulations to all those involved -
Another crate covert. Originally my boys slept in crates in my bedroom, now the crates are in the spare room. They know what "Time for bed means " and will often beat me to bed when I come home from work in the wee small hours.

For Those That Don't Look In Off Topic
jm266 replied to Bundyburger's topic in General Dog Discussion
This is so sad. I too am very shocked. When I first joined DOL one of the first threads I was read was the thread about the Hamiltonstövare puppies. Then there was Kari's thread and the gorgeous wombats. Condolences to Vicsta, her family and friends -
