  1. There is an Australian Bulldog rescue group They have rescued many AB's from the pounds They are run by the Australian bulldog society
  2. thanks for the reply tatersI took him to the chiro this morning he still shows some signs ''toe curl reaction'' and he has a small spot of arthritis in the lower spine which may have triggered it. Chiro says it may take a while to absorb the blood clot and not to let him jump around and twist if possible. Did your dog recover fully with no recurrances? My boy (Bullddog) had the CT for the diagnosis He recovered to about 99.8 %, He had physio, and hydrotherapy to help him recover quicker
  3. Yes one of my dogs had a mild case it's called FCE Fibrocartligous embolism (spelling may be slightly wrong) Can only be diagnosed at a guess or after eliminating all other spinal conditions via a CT myleogram
  4. I have also searched coles and safeway/woolworths Melbourne and not found any either
  5. The closest one I know of would be Highett, near Morrabbin
  6. Really?? I had no idea they would cover pre existing condtions once a waiting period was served? From all their product statements I've read, they excluse pre existing entirely? How long have you been with them? It was a blocked tear duct due to a tear duct infection, i suppose its a rare thing and actually hasnt happened again so maybe thats why? We have been with them just under a year now. Edited to say, I must check my policy doc again to be 100% sure but I am sure it said they would cover him in 12 months for any eye condition ( except tear ducts) and then after 24 months for any eye conditions including tear duct probs, like I say I must check my doc to be 100% sure but I know none of the other insurers wanted to cover his eyes ever! Went and had a look at my policy doc and it is exactly as I thought, no eyes for 12 months and after 24 months they will review weather they will cover the tear ducts or not, which will be 2011 Oh ok. That's really good to know for anyone considering it. It's not written like that in any of their policies so I'm assuming you'd need to ask or tell them when they ask you regarding pre existing conditions. After they had gotten all the histories from Vets my dogs had attended, and got their Vets to go through it, Petplan phoned me with the lists of exclusions (they also posted this too me) so I could have a think about whether I still wanted to cover them One of my dogs had previously had bilateral luxating patellas (she'd had surgery for) and had been diagnosed with Hip Displasia and also at one stage had suspected irritable bowel syndrome So basically she has alot of exculsions, but if she was injured in an accident and either her hips or knees required surgery becasue of the accident, she would still be covered. They didn't tell me this until I asked lots of questions There are also numerous amounts of things that can happen to an animal that would also be covered So I did still cover her, and will get her exlusions re assessed in another 8 months or so
  7. all of my dogs have pre existing conditions, I was told when I applied for insurance through petplan that these conditions could be reassesed after 12 months (doesn't automatically cover them) When I made a claim, it took about 5 weeks for them to pay it
  8. I too have Petplan That just paid a $3000 claim for me and I have only had insurance with my dogs since October so it's well and truelly paid for itself
  9. Price will depend on your local Vet or Specialist doing it, as Gretel already said Which is best will depend on the size of the dog How bad the pattella is luxating will also depend on the type of surgery that may be required
  10. The Bonnie working dog is round well the bag I bought is
  11. Yes vets are legally bound to keep all xrays on file. That way is ever a case needs to be investigated by the AVA, the history including xrays are all at the clinic It's either for 5 years after the animal has passes away, or 10 years
  12. What page is it on will have to go buy it now your brother should get them to send him the photo how nice. 11 years ago I sent in a letter regarding my experience with a dog attack re my dog getting killed and for people to be more responsible they sent me a lovely letter back and a free copy of the magazine, I should buy this issue and make Lady watch the dog training video as I think she's watched the owner training one! My brother's staffy is in the training video, with Sidney Arrons. It was when he was a little pup, he's about 7 months old now
  13. I put the link on my FB page I just copied it into my status asking all dog owners to complete
  14. It's got my brother's young male staffy in it
  15. I wouldn't swim the dog as athritis in a front limb can often be made worse by swimming Walking in water would be a safer option

  17. I would also go with IV fluids Helps keep the oxygen level up and flushes the anesthetic out of their system quicker I would also get the and pre anesthetic blood test
  18. Thinking of you Chewy  May beautiful Elliot go peacefully
  19. I am giving my dog a animal probiotic and it states not to give them if the dog is currently on antibiotics So I would wait until your dog finishes the course of antibiotics
  20. Was she using her leg in the underwater treadmill? Were the exercises given, to encourage weight bearing
  21. Without offending anyone FHO is not the best option for a large breed , but it is still there as an option by some Vet's (Not Specialist's)
  22. The sooner she is weight bearing on it, the better Slow leash walking should encourage weight bearing
  23. Yes you can use both at the same time
  24. I used to use treats and get my dog to watch me if she reacted to another dog But I wanted to prevent it, so I got a behaviourist to help We are working on desensitizing, without treats and we are making progress thanks to Erny :D
