  1. Ive always wanted to see if a prong collar made a difference to Nova. Does anyone out South Eastern way have one i could practice with?
  2. One of my Tollers is extremely smart and he has taken forever to train to do the easiest of things, he always tries to figure aways around them and while he will do some things the first few times something much more rewarding must be offered or he switches off. He is a really smart dog and it doesnt help that he has an attention span of a fish lol. Nova tends to be a watcher he will watch things before attempting them himself. My other Toller is the Pinky from Pinky and the Brain, he is a goof ball who at times seems pretty dumb LOL but he has been heaps easier to train. For example on the weekend in flyball he was doing a full run but grabbing the ball out of someones hand as it was his first lesson in months (he is only a year old) it has taken Nova close to 3 years to achieve what Darcy did in one lesson. Both dogs are easily trained, you just have to keep Nova interested much much more then Darcy who is nearly always focussed on me.
  3. If i could spit straight i would be training like this, but i cant and it tends to make them jump towards where the food is landing. I might try holding the food in my mouth but not spitting to see if that works.
  4. I desexed one of my dogs when he was 3 years old, the only thing that changed about him was that he has become easier to train and handle. The reason i desexed was that he wasnt going to be bred anymore so he need not have them and i didnt particulary want any health problems later. If i wasnt showing and planning on breeding all my dogs would be desexed at 6 months.
  5. Is that a Sunday? I want to come to give the dogs another go but if its a Sunday it will have to depend on the time.
  6. I dont care what mine do as long as they arent pulling me down the street, they do tug on the lead when something is exciting like a rabbit or cat.
  7. Congratulations! I would be very excited if Nova ever gets to that stage LOL Good on ya Sparty!
  8. I voted other for the dry food as ive tried 95% of those up there and at the moment havent found anything Darcy has done well on, so it changes everytime i buy them food.
  9. Thanks for the replies guy. Planning on making those balls soon thanks Norskgra
  10. I agree with Shoemonster, i didnt even know that there was the Highland thing on if i had know that i would have thought twice about coming as it is an hour from my place and they werent helpful to me. Must say though, the link didnt mention anything about an entry price into the actual event to see flyball. So it was misleading, i wouldnt have minded paying $5 but not $15 to only stay for about 30 minutes
  11. I even said i didnt care about all the Scottish stuff, i was just there to see the dogs!! Looking back maybe not the best thing to say, but i was being honest......those bagpipes were scaring Nova LOL
  12. I went, got lost, then when i finally found the school, i couldnt find the entrance for the dogs.....then when i thought i found it i had to pay like $15 for entry. So i turned around and went home pretty annoyed as no one would help me either grr
  13. ^Thanks will go there on Monday.
  14. Thanks Kitkat. Does anyone have a good Satin Ball recipe?
  15. Thanks for the tips, might try the Coprice. He has been on advance as well combined with BARF patties. Didnt work well.
  16. Im in Pakenham, about 45 minutes south east of the city. If its that cheap, thats not too bad, as i have Nova here who will eat anything LOL, will try the produce store tomorrow if they have it Thanks KC
  17. Does Coprice only come in those really big bags? Im sick of buying the massive bags (which are helluva lot cheaper) then he doesnt want to eat it after about a week.
  18. Hey all, Darcy needs to put on some weight and have been told Satin Balls are the way to go, i just did a search for them and am even more confused. What are they? How much do i feed? How quickly do they gain weight? Also apart from that does anyone have an handy weight gaining tricks, Darcy has been raised on premium dry foods, like Pro Plan, Science Diet and Eukanuba to name a few and he has not really dont well on any of those. I am about to try him on Nutrience to see if that helps. He is an extremely active dog and because he has trouble keeping weight on i assume he has a fast metabolism. Does anyone think he would do better if i feed him too meals a day instead of one? Mel (SR) if youre reading this, thank you the soaking the kibble with water thing works and he is eating without choking, he still sucks his gut in but not as much. Nat
  19. Thanks for the link! Im not doing anything Sunday so might come then.
  20. Can someone tell me what the address is please? Im planning on coming if its not too hard to get too, might bring Darcy or Nova with me if im allowed too.
  21. If i had 'normal' pet dogs i wouldnt really care who washed them, personally would probably go for the cheapest but seeing as i show them i cant have the groomer cutting of hair or just doing something totally wrong so i will and do go with a groomer that has the more experience especially in the show ring. To find a groomer with show ring experience is good as not all showies have their own hydrobath to do their own dogs.
  22. Nope, i sometimes use one on Nova who tends to get a bit excited at times but i still had to train him not to pull with gentle leader on or off. They are more a management tool then an actual training device.
  23. I have recently started to feed my dogs Eagle Pack and they are starting to look great.....not that they didnt before just they look great now haha I feed them Supercoat when money is tight and havent had any issues with it. When you get to the premium/super premium foods the bigger you buy the better in the long run.
