  1. In Tollers, a lighter eye is preferred in the flesh coloured dogs and IMO make a Toller really look like a Toller. The eye colour is meant to blend with the dog, so darker features (skin colour) mean a darker eye the lighter the skin the lighter the eye. I have two flesh coloured Tollers with light eyes, and a darker (close to black) with almost black eyes who also looks like he is wearing eyeliner! No real reason other than just being appealing. I personally love the lighter eye, it's beautiful and more expressive, lovely mixtures of gold and brown. It's hard to get a good photo of it though but I've attached my boy (with dark features) and my little girl who is his daughter. Was in the shade so appears darker than usual but you get the general gist of it :)
  2. Interesting, thanks for that Janba, I do like BC's but never really looked into the standards too hard. I find it weird that Australia have set their own rules on the breed. Can't wait for the day when you see a short coated sable in the ring :p
  3. Australia is listed on its standard as the country of development. NZ had the first breed standard followed by Aus. UK, the country of origin didn't have a breed standard, KC register or show BCs till later. The FCI standard is the UK standard. The NBCC voted to allow more colours several years ago but work is still in progress to iron out discrepancies in the motions voted for and submit a modified standard to the ANKC for consideration. So it's a work in process? That's good then :)
  4. Why haven't BC breeders made the ANKC change the standard to allow all colours? If the country of origin allows it, then getting Australia too follow the rest of the world shouldn't be too hard?
  5. Yes, I was actually surprised it lasted as long as it did!
  6. LOL and they always know how to use it too their advantage! She was never in trouble because she was too damn cute.....and yes she was/is majorly spoilt! :p
  7. There are some gorgeous dogs in this thread, but those Samoyed babies are too cute! So fluffy and white! This is my girl, I think she is pretty adorable here and I must admit she did win 'best puppy in shire' at an expo so I am not bias (much)
  8. Congrats! I wasn't there last weekend but I've seen them around, can't wait to see them compete :D
  9. I did this too, cheap bike and expensive bike seat! Gotta have a well cushioned seat
  10. I've had a few refused challenges, some I completely understand, others mmm...... For my two youngest it used to be too immature, and that was fine as growing up they were both long legged, thin and gangly with more white than most Tollers shown in Victoria. So they did look strange compared to the usual short, stocky and plain  My old boy has been refused as well for having too much white, he barely has any just a little triangle on nose, a little on the chest and white toes, none out of place but that was the reason given. I must admit that I was a bit rude and told the judge to reread the standard if that was the reason
  11. Agree! For some reason BH brings out the worst in people, if your dog doesn't do well on it, no problem find a food that your dog does! There is really no need to harp on about it. I've got all 3 of mine of it, all three are show dogs, do agility and flyball. So having them in excellent condition is essential. I do recommend people try it because I've had awesome results but I am certainly not going to make them feel bad if their dog drops condition and need to swap.....hell I didn't bag any of the other premium brands when one of mine couldn't keep weight on and looked like crap.
  12. Mmm bugger, might have too look into a bit more before upping the training as I don't want to screw that up.
  13. Was she a consistent cycler before that Murve? I don't want to throw Jovi's out of whack as I also am planning on breeding her this year, her seasons have been 6 months on the dot and I don't want to screw that up as it's easy planning when you know she will be in :D
  14. Just be careful, desexed males can still mate and tie a bitch. I have a desexed boy who has never looked sideways at her and she ignores him (apart from the occasional hump LOL) so he is left with her to keep her company. The hormones do wonderful things to the boys
  15. Each bitch is different, some bleed for the whole season, some stop within a day or two and others are textbook :D With walking, I still walked her around the area not very far though I do try to take her to ovals mostly.....my reasoning is dogs have incredible smell and they will be able to smell her in the backyard regardless of whether you walk her around there or not :) I would be more inclined to take her to an oval so you can see in all directions and put her on a long line so she can have a run. Just keep an eye on her when she is outside, otherwise leave her inside.
  16. I wouldn't worry too much about a puppy sitting :p Even my adult dog at 8 years of age sometimes sits in the ring after doing a circle or triangle. Only happens when his mind is elsewhere and his automatic behaviour is an instant sit when I stop but the judges just laugh when I apologize and say 'obedience dog' Then again my breed isn't really looked at as a show breed ;)
  17. Beautiful Stafford! Is he the dog meant to have yellow eyes? They don't look yellow to me......
  18. None of mine like Boxers either, one has such a dislike of them if he sees one he will carry on until he can no longer see it :rolleye: The others just ignore and avoid. He has never had any negative experiences so I've put it down to the appearance and the noise they make. None of them like bouncy, excited, in your face dogs as well and do everything to avoid them, so a combination is their worst nightmare!
  19. Not sure what area you are in Megan, but I bought mine from Hastings Camping as Sway got a good deal through them. I got my gazebo and 2 sides much cheaper than everywhere else (though I can't remember how much now ) Hopefully Sway checks the thread and can let you know if that 'deal' is still good :)
  20. Sour grapes indeed. Clearly the judge thought the other dog was better, don't enter under that judge in future if you are so upset by losing to what the judge thinks is a better dog. What do I know though, I am apparantly not allowed to have an opinion as I have a rare breed like Rebanne ETA: Ohh I've been showing for 10 years, have I met the magical 'know it all' year number yet?
  21. Second the Oztrail but I have the cheapy standard version :p I trial by myself majority of the time, so put it up and down by myself all the time and once you learn a good system you can do it easily in 10 minutes (or even quicker if you are in a rush!) Comes on wheels which is good, it can be a bit heavy putting it in and out of the car at the end of a long tiring day but not unbearably heavy :)
  22. LOL I was going to say who was 'he'? Thanks I was hoping it was John, I was meant to get some things at Newborough but had to make a mad dash to the vets
  23. Does anyone know if any of the show vans will be at the Friday night show?
  24. I was glad I entered again this year, much more organised and friendly. I also got my challenges as soon as group specials had finished which is excellent, last year I waited hours afterwards and was assured it wouldn't happen again. No big brags apart from my girl winning BOB over her dad and my neuter had an awesome time, and had fun rolling around in the ring after he had been judged both times  :) Thanks to the secretaries, one happy exhibitor :)
