  1. Ohh yes i agree with this one lol At a club comp Nova and I scored about 195/200, this was done under a judge and carried out the same way as a normal trial, i thought excellent will give trialling a go now.....big mistake. I freaked out badly, was shaking and everything and off course we all stuffed up and i ended up pulling him out of stays, not good. The dog is fine, i am the reason we arent competiting lol
  2. Does anyone allow their dog to play with tennis balls at home? Just wondering, because once i started to compete i took all tennis balls away but they have a squeaky one that they are allowed to play with when i give it too them.
  3. Wow he has certainly improved and what a gorgeous boy he has become!! Is he ready for a new home yet?
  4. I pretty much just lobbed it at Darcy to encourage him to catch, took him awhile....he used to let balls and treats hit him instead of catching them. Then i just added the word catch and now when i say that i get full attention lol
  5. Yeah we are at Berwick. Nova runs behind Maverick and loves it, majority of the other dogs hate a massive staffy bearing down on them, but these two play chicken with each other.
  6. I cant think of anything to change about my club, the main agility instructor trials and competes with his dogs and is a judge as well the helpers are currently trailling their dogs so its a good experienced mix in regards to ways of training. For flyball, its pretty much the same all instructors are competiting in flyball and it is on in the morning before obedience. For both you have to have a yellow which is level 3 out of 6 or display good off lead control, most training now will be done in our new off lead enclosures. For timing ive worked myself out great, except i dont do obedience at the moment, i currently turn up for Agility with darcy, then swap do agility with Nova. Then we rest for about 30 minutes and do flyball with Nova then flyball with Darcy. Its tiring for me but its fun lol
  7. Normal tennis balls are used, keep in mind if you do try to find heavier ones they have to bounce a certain height. The only different type used are the little ones which are for all the little dogs. If they do tend to wreck them, then its probably best to use your own in trials so the team wont run out of balls half way through the day. Are they chewing them while returning with the ball?
  8. I personally find that revolting. To keep buying puppies like that, i dont know of anyone who does that thank god. My posts are in regard to puppies that i have bred and ran on, not bought. If that makes my posts easier to understand lol
  9. CTD - Yes i have found Darcy easier, not sure what you are getting at though. He has been much easier because through trial and error with Nova i found methods that work better, he was raised better, he can be a top performing dog very easily.....if he had a better trainer that is. Have you had Moses back checked out? If it gets sore doing weaving i wouldnt want to be doing much else till i find out what is wrong.
  10. I don't think that is strictly true. Some breeds have traits (physical, mental, instinctive) that make them more suited to certain activities than others, and individual dogs within breeds vary. So maybe not 100% true, but you wouldnt get something like a Dachshund for agility and then rehome it because its not good enough. Ive worked my arse off with Nova too, but we have gotten to the stage where im not going to give him up after all i have done, we will just keep plogging along. Though i accept 100% responsibility of him, he has been a pain in the arse to train because i made him like that.
  11. You could, when he does it right praise him and throw it again. Does he do it everytime he brings it too you? If he does you will need to ignore him to at least get him to the stage of not throwing it at you. When he gets excited though it may arise, best to just ignore until it eventually goes away. Good luck.....im still trying to picture it lol
  12. Hell no, breeders do become very attached to their dogs, its not like they are heartless and get rid of dogs without second thought. Too suggest otherwise is ludicrous. With obedience/performance dogs, the dog is only as good as its owner, if it isnt making the grade it is the owners fault and they should look at how to improve. You cant very well change a dogs physical appearance. Breeders rehome some dogs because if a certain dog isnt what they want their future breed to be like they cant very well keep every dog as they wouldnt be able to breed and keep puppies from litters to carry on with. Most councils have a dog limit (most here are 2) now how would a breeder be able to improve the breed if the dog they ran on from their litter doesnt cut it? When i start breeding, if required i will rehome a dog or two if it means i can keep breeding and hopefully get an excellent all round Toller. It wont be easy but it will be necessary. Really to try and compare the two is impossible, one is about keeping a breed alive and true the other is a sport. Sorry if it doesnt make sense, i know what i want to say but cant quite word it well enough.
  13. I have a few I am not using and your welcome to have them. I can give them to Clover and she can take them to the Ballarat Club - I also have a Flyball Harness by Black Dog that would fit a Kelpie size dog, its never been used, so again if anyone wants it let me know and I will give to Clover to pass on. Regards, Denise Ohh me me!! Have pmd you!
  14. If it was my dog, i would ignore him if he "threw" something at me. When playing fetch and he comes up and throws it immediately walk inside or put him outside whichever one, leave him for about 10 minutes and try again. As he has already learnt that you will throw it for him if he throws it at you it will take awhile to break that habit. Keep persisting until he learns that is not the correct way to behave. Once he has learnt better then you can go and retrain how to accept the toy, ive taught one of my boys to put the ball in my hand otherwise it doesnt get thrown.
  15. I do nothing at all over the break....well actually we did flyball training yesterday just to work out running order and teams, however that was the first "training" i have done for a month. The dogs are quite content as long as they can go for a run, i will need to start up again soon as Darcy is becoming very hyper. Ive personally found they come back more excited to learn and do stuff after a break, with Nova though i have to give him a quick run down before hand lol
  16. Excellent news!!! Thats got to be one of the best things too happen to a breeder, so brag away
  17. He looks fine too me, then again thats what one of my boys is like. Darcy hardly has any fat on him its mostly muscle. As long as you cant clearly see ribs then i think they are fine. ETA: Ive actually had people come up and have a go at me for "starving" my dog, its usually the people that have these obese little dogs that do it though.
  18. Why should i do that? I didnt jump to conclusions, i went with what you had written you were leaving a puppy you only just got for 5 weeks. Next time be a bit clearer in your posts.
  19. OK i havent read the rest of the thread yet but why would you have gotten a puppy when you know you will be leaving it for more then a month?! Thats just stupid. A dog youve had for years or months i understand but a puppy you have had only 3 weeks?! Now ive seen everything
  20. That Orijen food looks great! Will be giving that one a go once it gets here.
  21. Congrats Vicki thats a great achievement!!! Cant wait to get Darcy up and ready to trial in agility.
  22. If you post this is the breeders section you will get alot of experience breeders replying too you who have hand raised puppies before. Good luck
