Thanks for coming guys!! I am really pleased with them both with how they were acting. Lexi i thought would be worse but she was good.

Someone more experienced will help you better but my suggestion is too not let your dog off lead at all in an open area if you know he wont come back. When you are yelling come come come all the time and he doesnt, all you are teaching him is too ignore you. He is at that age where he will wonder and start pushing his boundaries, i dont think your younger pup is at that stage yet. I personally would take it back to the start, put your pup on lead in your back yard and call him too you act really excited, make coming too you the best thing in the world!! Repeat this for awhile until you dont need to give a little tug too remind him and can do it in all places of the yard and house. Once he is doing it constantly, go back to the start and try this time off lead once again in your back yard, act nuts and everything give treats and lots of pats. Do the same as you would on lead. I realise you have tried the long rope, but does he actually know what come means to start with? Like i said others would be able to help you more with this. ETA: Something i was told as i have problems with recalls with one of mine is too never issue a command when you think your dog may not respond. So dont yell out come if you arent sure he will. I myself still do this as bad habits die hard, but it is a real good piece of advice.

Yep See you guys then.

The thing with these guys is they get defensive over what they consider theirs and do growl at other dogs. So what i need is good stable dogs that wont have a go back, making it worse. I will have one pup out at a time so that may help reduce possessiveness like they have here.

All the obedience clubs i know of you have to have a C5, because with so many dogs around you need the Kennel Cough vaccine. Not sure about trialling, i show and trial in flyball and have never been asked for a vaccination certificate. Suppose they reckon everyone needs to train at a club to get too a certain level so has a current vaccination.

Alpha rolling is physically placing your dog on its back, typically with growling and staring them in the eyes you can also place a hand over their neck which is supposed to replicate a wolf telling a lower ranking pack member off but wolves dont do that. It is supposed to get respect and submission from them, but it just makes the dog fear you, you get no respect at all.
-
All look the same too me. My opinion - Alpha rolls are wrong, they lead to fearful dogs who have no idea what you are doing to them. Very suprised they havent been bitten yet either out of fear or aggression. Disgusted they did it on a puppy. Other alternatives available that arent as stupid as alpha rolling. Happy?

Then i am entitled to mine, i can ask why you do it you know. Its up to you whether to reply to me or not. I would have thought though if you think what you are doing is right you would say why and give reasons? LOL you gonna alpha roll me?
-
Thats because they have been the only two to reply to your request for information as why it is wrong. Can i ask why you think it is right to physically force your dog into a submissive position?

Uhh like 6pm? Whenever you can get there would be good with me

Thats what i am planning too do. I just didnt expect someone to come in with another dog when they were all running free and not under my control (they were in a fenced off lead area so perfectly safe) Thanks guys, Shoey are you able to go down Saturday afternoon? Haven have pmd you

Thats great!! I really want them too come around, Belle would be an excellent agility dog she has the right personality for it so long as they get over the dog thing. His weight is getting better, finally getting some coat on as well. Its hard though i will be playing with the pups then i will look at him and wonder where this weight came from same with Nova, just not used to such tiny dogs lol
-
Yeah unfortunately they probably will be as the "window" has already closed seeing as they are 3-4 months old. I just want them to hopefully accept other dogs presence without being so defensive. I wont be taking them with me on Sunday, too many dogs about to worry about them and getting Darcy ready lol
-
I have found that with my dogs too, but that is really my fault i get nervous when we go to new places. Once i get on top of it they work fine, are you nervous or worried when at new places?

I tried to find the other thread but couldnt find it Anyway i have a couple of foster puppies here who require socialisation with other dogs. They seem to have had no other contact outside their littermates and mother, so i need some dogs who are calm and friendly to young pups. They bark and raise their hackles a fair bit when they spot another dog and because i dont have access to any friendly dogs around here they get away with it at the moment. The only dogs they have interacted with are mine. I need to get on top of this while they are young. So does anyone have any dogs that will help these guys?

How Many Dogs Do You Have?
Sayreovi replied to leopuppy04's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I have 4 at the moment, 2 adults of my own and 2 foster puppies. Currently on a "break" mainly due to the weather, my dogs dont perform too well in the heat so i dont bother training them too hard in it. The puppies i am training every day at the moment. Nope, I train one at a time usually put them all in a pen ive got so they can watch while i train. 2, 3 month old pups, a 2 year old male and a 4 year old male. I could very easily trial the older two if my nerves wouldnt interfere so i am working on making them reliable rather then fast so i can relax a bit. Yeah though thats mainly because I have limited equipment at home for what i want to exceed in (flyball and agility) I have 2 Tollers and 2 Kelpies. The foster pups are the Kelpies so i just train them the same way i would the Tollers. Though i have soft dogs in each breed, so i have to watch my body language with these two and try not to verbally correct them to much. Then i have Nova who is a pain and while willing he contstantly challenges why he should do that so i have to be a little harsher with him, then i have the last Kelpie pup who is in the middle lol. A bit of everything i have. -
Hell I cant even sit still and concentrate for an hour!! I would be finding a new puppy preschool.
