Outstanding Training Day Opportunity
Sayreovi replied to Lablover's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
It would be about an hour and a half with minimal traffic from the airport Wagalot -
Just because someone is into one method more then others, doesnt mean that other methods havent been tested and trialled. For example ive only found clicker training in the last 2 years. My older dog who is 4, was a pain in the arse a OTT type of dog and i was using ineffective methods (for him) because i didnt know alternatives like clicker. So if i see a dog that was like mine using the same methods, i would show them the difference a clicker can make to a dogs attitude

Who will be doing the retrieving part of the day? I take it the numbers would be limited as well, can you tell us for how many people? -
Yes, but i would start off with my preferred methods and then work downwards until i get too something that does actually work.
-
Aww i like Flat Coats though, never will own one now, i hate dogs licking me.
-
I love her heeling in this one, she prances LOL
-
Well done!!! I thought it was cute how she stopped and had a little squiz at what everyone else was doing LOL

My theory is to give anything go at least once within reason. If it works great, if it doesnt well never mind, but least i tried and can say that, that method didnt work for that dog. ETA: I will always listen too people offering advice, depending on what the advice is i may follow through, if i dont like the method i would go thanks but no thanks. I know the limitations of my dogs and what will wreck them as apposed too making them better.

Ive noticed people use Avocado in the mix, i thought this contained poison in regards to dogs?
-
To generalize i would say about 4 years. They are still young enough too do everything quickly and mature enough to do the exercises asked.

Body Awareness And Rough Terrain
Sayreovi replied to sidoney's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Sure does help them. Darcy is quick and light footed, will race around through thick bush, dodge and duck under trees, run up and down steep rocky hills. All this is done with ease and confidence. I got back from a walk an hour ago through the above area and i never really watched before so i did this time, it is amazing at how fast he goes and never seems too put a foot wrong. In agility, he is quite confident over the contacts and realises what his back end is doing. -
Geez not a good week for you is it? She looks like she was a lovely cat, sorry for your loss
-
Sorry for your loss Shoey Its hard when they pass, they really have a hold of your heart in that short time, my boy passed a couple of weeks ago i know how you feel

Wagalot, if you havent already bought one, pm me and i will put one in the post for you. I finally cleaned up the dog training equipment cupboard and found like 10 of the bloody things I have the IClicks, http://www.clickertraining.com/store/?item=newiclick

Too be honest, ive never heard or seen someone use just a Sit/Drop as a stay till released command. Interesting. I might see what happens if i give them a drop and walk off on the right leg without command. I personally use Stay/Wait because thats what i was taught lol, stay means that you stay there until i come back and wait is wait there until i call you. At the moment i am not into that much obedience and have hardly used the stay command for quite some time but wait i use in agility.
-
Yes you're right, it wont help, but it wont make the problem as worse if you let the dog off lead and he doesnt come back. Hope you can train him too be good off lead.
-
he is dog friendly Mmm thats great.......ever thought about the other dog he will be running up too? Keep your dog on lead till you have it under control for the safety of everyone.
-
While i cant help with recalls, my dogs arent that great, i would suggest too not let your dog off lead at all until he is reliable. Would hate if he did attack another dog or worse get hit by a car running after something.
-
LOL Have fun and let us know how you go at Croydon.
-
Wow congrats!!! So when is your next trial?
