  1. We have a Lab in our team that can run about 4.5 seconds
  2. Unfortunately, with the working dogs i have met, they probably wouldnt do to well in your house at the present time. Maybe if you score a one with a decent off switch, but thats an off chance probably not worth taking. Flyball and Agility dogs require daily exercise to remain fit and trim, it also stops them destroying the house and yard. Worth mentioning too, alot of flyball dogs have heaps of drive, mainly prey drive so a cat running might excite them enough to chase. Have you considered a rescue dog? That way you can get an adult and know exactly how the dog is and regardless of breed see if it is suited to you. There are tonnes of working breeds that are currently in foster care at the moment, that could possibly suit you
  3. You can start obedience at any age, but no one should expect a puppy to still be concentrating for so long. You would be hard pressed to find an adult who would be as good at the end of two hours as at the start. Its just too long for any dog.
  4. Is Oscar the big cream dog? Looks like a Lab cross Poodle, if he is the dog i am thinking of.
  5. Oops i forgot about Bear, he is huge!!! Clover is pretty big too but a small big
  6. I'm trying to think of a large x breed run by a female. Jamaica is the biggest ( american bulldog x lab) not sure I could ever call his handler a girl though. :p I was thinking of the dog at the time, but yes i was picturing Jamaica.
  7. Pretty much any dog can do flyball and have fun. The most serious competitors though have BCs and Kelpies, as they are very fast. The only large dogs i have seen doing flyball in Victoria is a cross bred (Someone who races with her will know what breed) and a few of the larger gundogs. Majority are medium sized and smaller. For what its worth, i have Tiffany who is listed on the link that Scarlet posted
  8. My dogs (and the fosters) love them as well, they get one a morning. Havent had any problems with feeding frames to any of the dogs i have had here, and that includes puppies.
  9. I was working instead.....unfortunately couldnt look past the penalty rates......i will definately be at the Berwick trial though with one or both my dogs
  10. There is nothing wrong with ANY food if your dog does well on it. If your dog is happy and healthy there is no reason why you shouldnt feed it and that goes for any food. There just seem to be alot of dogs that dont do well on Advance and Supercoat so they generally arent recommended. I want to give Kiwipeak a go, looks pretty good.
  11. how did you get into dog sports? Well i didnt get into dog sports before i got my Tollers because i didnt have a dog, we had a family pet but he was dog and people aggressive, not exactly the best combo. I always wanted to do agility and flyball though. Did you get your dog specifically for a purpose? In a way yes, i wouldnt have gotten a breed that wasnt suited for agility/flyball. Have you since taken up sports that you had never considered doing prior to your dog? Not really, i want/ed to give everything a go that is possible. Has your 'obsession' in dog sports spurred on additional dogs that probably wouldn't have made it to your house otherwise? Dont really understand this question, i got my second dog based on the reasons why i got my first. WHAT did you do in your life prior to dog obsession? Ive always been dog obsessed but never had a dog able to do anything with so pretty much nothing :p
  12. I am entered with Darcy but unsure of whether i am going or not at the moment.
  13. Another flyballer here, it is competitive but a laid back one if that makes sense? I like the team structure of it all, dogs love doing it, its a great day out with friends and your dogs its great
  14. LOL I didnt run but geez i nearly kept getting knocked over by that last guy in the Hastings team. It was a great comp though, you guys should be proud!! Only thing i didnt like was the damn dust, mainly because i have a sore throat now, not nice at all The first day i was fine, but today blah LOL
  15. Just wondering if you use the usual pet mince or......? Sorry i know BARF is a frequent topic, i did search but everyone just says mince, not specific enough
  16. Thanks Uhh no i will be staying with my aunty for Saturday night, and yes Joy and Finlay will be there. Finlay will be having a few runs as well, he has been training and the accident has pretty much left him unscarred ;)
  17. Do you vary your rewards/ the way you reward? Nova is a food driven dog so i like to vary what foods i use in training, everything from kabana and cheese to roast chicken. Darcy is happy to work very well for food but his main reward is to retrieve or play tug, it depends on what i want him to do with what reward he gets. If you use food, do you always use the same type? Nope, it changes pretty much each week from the last. Does the reward change in relation to the difficulty/ distractions? Yes, for instance in the first few flyball comps Nova got dim sims as a reward LOL now he knows what to do he doesnt get them but a less rewarding food. The dim sims are on hold for the Nationals LOL Darcy gets to retrieve if he does a really hard exercise instead of the usual treat or if i dont have something to throw i wrestle with him and pretty much just give him heaps of attention which he loves. How do you use yourself as a motivator? Is that like playing with the dog and giving praise and/or pats?
  18. We will be there as usual LOL Have you recieved any more information about it? I dont know where it is apart from being in Sebastopol or when it starts at the moment.
  19. Well Darcy and I are entered, so we shall see you all there, that is if Darcy decides to be stupid the day before LOL
  20. That is really worrying, i would be doing bloodtests ASAP. If anything dogs should gain weight when not exercised not lose it.
  21. I have one of those as well. At training there is only one person he likes patting him and this person has been buttering him up for about a year LOL That is apparantly typical of my breed as well, but then i have Nova
  22. Not for obedience, but it is nice to ask someone to watch to pick up on the finer bits you cant yourself. Ohh and if you get stuck on something there is certainly someone who was stuck on the same thing and can help you out.
  23. I will be entering with either one or both of mine. Hoping for a home ground advantage LOL So what time is it Monday? I have trialled before.....if you want to call it that :D LOL
  24. I am so seriously contemplating entering this trial with Darcy, so we might see you all there. Darcy works like a dream when i am not nervous....and like most dogs is heaps better off lead cause thats what i train like LOL
