  1. I taught Nova by actually woofing at him and clicking LOL, he is by nature though a vocal dog. Darcy is alot more quiet and pretty much i got Nova to do it in front of him and rewarded Nova, until Darcy decided he didnt want to be left out and spoke up
  2. Given that you only have had 2 lessons, you cant expect the dog to know things over night. Depending on your dog it can take months to years. A dog doesnt have to be ball mad to be good at flyball You can train the dog to see the ball as just a thing to bring back, but what you have is the reward not the ball or train the down and back as different exercises so the dog views the ball as the reward for going down and the tug/food as the reward for coming back. Alot of dogs in Australian flyball see the ball as the reward so will run down fast and lope back. If your dog doesnt like stationary balls, perhaps you could clicker train him to go to the ball, pick it up and eventually bring it back. This is what i had to do with one of mine. As you have a large dog, at this point in time i would personally be working on perfecting the turns rather then getting him to do things all at once. The method you are teaching the turns is not what i would do now for a big dog, you need a way that will teach your dog to do a flip off the box. Where abouts are you located?
  3. Yes i want to know that too ETA: Given what Steve wrote, i am not sure what i actually train in. When training Darcy i have a toy that immediately makes him full of drive, combined with 'Are you ready to work?' Now when i am training he is very fast, full on and he does things perfect (for the things he knows well). He only gets to tug when i say so at the end of a certain amount of training which varies all the time. He knows he isnt allowed to touch the toy until i say OK, i do not have to have the toy with me and still have excellent results but he knows its somewhere if i say 'Are you ready....' and will still do everything. Focus is always there even if a cat is in view, which has been in the past a very high distraction. So am i training in drive? Also i cant do more then about 10minutes of training as i find he seems to be tired by the end of it.
  4. Thanks for the replies, more options now Certainly didnt know about GTG!
  5. Congrats to Ballarat!! You certainly deserved the win, happy for any Victorian team to win it really
  6. Does anyone know when the next 20/20 clinic will be held in Victoria? Also (mainly for Victorians) does anyone use the Werribee vets for hip/elbow scoring or does everyone use Dr Wyburn? If you have/havent use the Werribee vets what is your opinion of them, and are (or why arent) they held in the same esteem as Dr Wyburn? TIA
  7. Aww Look at the Pug! She is gorgeous
  8. Give it to rescue or the local pound . Its on my to do list :D , but i am not heading that way for awhile. I dont care who takes it because its wasting here i wont even feed it too my foster dog as it makes her smell too. Regarding my dogs stinking, they reeked, their breath was disgusting and their poo was horrendous. One actually starting farting and i can tell you it wasnt pretty Lucky it was cheap food.
  9. I wouldnt think so if your dog finds shit appetising but most dogs much prefer food to shit so its harder to teach if you have a food obsessed dog. Yet the principle is the same The level of degree seems to be more difficult for some dogs. I dont think we understand each other because your last post is confusing with what i have said. You have some food you don't want you dog to take it you say "leave it" You see dog shit on the grass, they sniff it and you say "leave it" There trained to ignore/refuse the temptation Same principle, although food maybe harder to refuse. Umm thats what i said in my first post.
  10. Hey DD you could always come into the flyball rings?

  13. Yeah it wouldnt have been too bad if we were actually from Queensland or even NSW but we travelled 24 hours to get there and to only get 10 races is astounding. Not happy at all, at least the other divisons got best of 3 out of 5. Not sure where the photos are going to be put up, nothing on the website yet. They said something about afc.com or something but ive tried several combinations and nothing yet.
  14. I taught mine not to touch something when told, otherwise they are hoovers Basically started with something they dont really want like normal dry food and placed it in front of them when they are sitting if they tried to eat it they were given an ah-ah and when they looked at me i clicked and gave them different food from my hand. Once they were looking at me and not the food i moved to something more tasty and so on till i can say leave it and they look straight at me. There will be other ways to teach it but this way worked for me. I havent got to the stage of them sitting while i was a distance away with my back turned as i took a break for obedience.
  15. Ahh i have one of those at the moment, perfect for a sporting home but most dont want adult dogs but i am waiting she is much too good as just a pet so i am training her myself
  16. Great Barko made my dogs stink! Stupid that they only have big bags because i have 15kgs sitting in a tub here that i will never use.
  17. IMO excellent training treats but not a good food for every day. It reminds me of the dog rolls in little balls with sprinkles ;)
  18. ;) What sort of times do you usually do with that combo?
  19. WOW Congrats DD!!! What a brillant achievement, now where too from here?
  20. There was another dead heat as well, between my team and i cant remember the other i think the time was 22.677? Congrats to the Weiners and Ballarat who won first in their divisions (2&3 respectively) and again to the Weiners who won the trophy for highest percentage of winning heats excellent results for them as that was their only team and they brought back the Div 2 trophy back to Victoria!! Go the Victorians! Berwick finished 3rd in Division 3, behind Ballarat and another team that was too fast for our division (kept breaking out when running well). Was excellent to watch the Thunderdogs break the record, and on the second day too! Honestly never again, we went all that way for 30 heats. We had 3 heat races which is bloody ridiculous for a National. We have more races local so we werent happy about that.
  21. YAY!!! Congrats! He seemed a little stressed in the sit and kept shifting his front feet when you were walking away, like lifting one then the other? Dont know why. Yeah i had to leave unfortunately, have to catch up properly one day Congrats again
  22. Just wondering how your afternoon trial went? Hope you got that pass (and title)
  23. Not expecting any, if my dog doesnt perform well he doesnt deserve too pass. More for me to strive for
  24. Ahh no wonder i hadnt heard of sweepstakes, thanks ML LP Thats pretty much why i would rather just go into CD, i dont want to stress my dog out if others are running around and potentially hurting him. Same with you i am alot better with Darcy off lead because thats how i train, the lead just makes it weird LOL He isnt going to run off if we go into Novice first, i just didnt know you could skip CCD. Awesome all i have to do is get him doing the retrieve well....well the sit in front bit right and we will be there, everything else we have no problems with.
  25. Thanks for the tip, i tried this today and it worked very well. Managed to get Darcy to do 6 'open' and 6 normal weavers driving through them and working clean, so very impressed got too dark to do anything else but still very happy with what he did.
