Why would anyone want to vaccinate a dog that's already vaccinated is beyond me. When dog are vaccinated yearly it does not enhance the immune system it actually depresses it. I dont actually want too, but as i go to a dog club which requires dogs to be vaccinated i have too. The 3 yearly one isnt exactly 'proper' in some peoples eyes so i would have had trouble with that if i didnt go to someone who agrees with me. For dog clubs in Victoria to be affiliated with Dogs Victoria, it is a requirement that dogs be C5 vaccinated. I am unsure of how to actually change this to include titre testing. I agree though with whoever said it, Australia is very behind in regards to vaccinations and the damage they do.

Nah he isnt rubbing it on anything, its only the white fur that is slowly going
-
Bump, anyone?
-
I used to pay $60 for both dogs for a C5. Then the vets changed ownership and its gone up to $70 PER dog, i got it cheaper because i was charged breeders rates mainly because of the rescue dogs i took in. So of course changed vets and now get the three year booster for $100.

Funny Stories About Trialling Or Training.
Sayreovi replied to Astro Boy 2's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Ive had a few embarrassing moments, mainly involving Nova. We were at a flyball comp in Wonthaggi, it was in conjuction with a show so had a really big crowd (for flyball anyway). One of Novas massive problems in training for flyball is he always used to run off do a wee and come back, he had been competing for several months without any hassles so i became lax in toileting him, i still did just not as much i used to and now still do walk him around for 10 minutes before hand showing him every upright structure for him to pee on. Anyway all was going fine, Nova is really excited raring to go, runs down grabs the ball turns, stops and does a big wee right in front of the box! OMG you should have heard the crowd ;) They went aww because he stopped followed by an eewww Hasnt done it since!! Another one at an agility trial, the entire day was a disaster but one run he actually went zooming around the area, in and out of peoples tents around people and dogs waiting. By luck he didnt go into any other agility rings. After i managed to capture the little nutter, he gave me this big dopey grin, so while i was very embarrassed at the time i laugh about it now because after all at least one of us had fun in our first comp and as long as it was the dog then i will get over it LOL Darcy is a good boy Though at an agility trial i thought he wasnt going to get of the dog walk because of the ground. He is a very prissy dog and doesnt like getting his feet dirty, so this trial was in the afternoon after about 100 dogs have already ran and the ground was disgusting. He run down to the end of the dog walk stopped suddenly, sniffed the ground and with a little coaxing trotted off lifting feet very high with a disgusted look on his face. ;) -
I believe that there is no set pack order and that a dogs rank is different over different objects/occasions. With my two there is no real top dog, they have never fought and both have their boundaries that the other learnt quickly. My older boy is more dominant when out as my younger isnt as out going but at home it changes and Nova will submit to Darcy on occasion. Even when i have a foster dog that is a little dominant in certain areas is easily dominated in others.

I did actually point it out but he didnt seem to think it was a cause for concern and left it at that. Hoping some Dolers have had this happen before and know some things to improve growth there.

Not what i wanted to hear about auto immune problems......its a big problem in Tollers. Though its not red nor is he licking it, the fur had just started thinning out Its happened over the last 6 months or so, so its not a recent sudden occurance.

Low Drive Versus High Drive Dogs
Sayreovi replied to ness's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Is there such a thing as a no drive dog? Surely there is something that motivates the dog, only the owner hasnt found it..... Nova is a high food drive dog, would do backflips to get a favourite food but has a medium-low prey drive (except cats!). Pack is higher then prey but is still gets unreliable results. He is a fast agility and flyball (well as fast as he can be!) dog and depending on what mood he is in can be an excellent obedience dog! Darcy has a high prey drive, meduim-high food drive and medium-high pack drive. I can reward with pretty much everything and still get the same results. He is very good in obedience (helps being a mummys boy!) fairly fast in flyball and is very slow for his usual speed in agility. I would have thought that a low drive dog is one hard to get into any drive and high drive is one that goes into drive as soon as reward is seen or word is said? -
Overweight Dogs Doing Dogs Sports
Sayreovi replied to Cosmolo's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Its exercise but not a great one, for an overweight dog the jumping of both agility and flyball would be too much on their back/joints no matter what height the jumps are at. The best exercise is more walks preferably off lead and drop back on the food! Dog sports are for fit healthy dogs not fat ones IMO. FWIW i have a dog that alot of people think is fat so some who have seen him may think i am being hypocritical, but he is actually big boned and carries alot of coat. He is at his optimum weight and would look disgusting lighter just the same if my medium boned boy has extra weight. -

Has Anyone Fed Their Dogs Fish Heads?
Sayreovi replied to Norskgra's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Is there any readily available fish that shouldnt be fed? -
One of my dogs have pretty much lost nearly all the fur around his nose. He is a very happy, healthy active dog with tonnes of fur in every other area of his body but has just gradually lost the fur surrounding his nose. I am worried about cancer so he gets sunscreen basically every day but would really love to get his fur back Have attached a pic, its not a good one but most recent. The left hand side of the triangle is white fur the other side is the skin....it has a fine coating of fur

I train at what height the dogs jump at, at competitions although if i am feeling lazy i will keep it on 400 as i know my 500 dog will jump over anything and still not knock the bar. Club changes with what dogs we have training for the more experience dogs, we have a couple 300s one 400 and the rest 500. If everyone goes in and changes the jump heights its simple and quick to put it on the correct height.

Feeding A Raw Diet, Veges Or No Veges?
Sayreovi replied to jesomil's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Well i can tell you know little to nothing about the BARF diet. The vegie mush is fed to the dogs to replicate the stomach contents of the prey they are eating which of course is mushed up greens. One of the few ways to replicate this, as dogs cant digest whole vegetable parts, is to use a juicer or processor. -
Overweight Dogs Doing Dogs Sports
Sayreovi replied to Cosmolo's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
There are a few in flyball that need to loose weight fast, plus there are ones that are old and probably arthritic so need to retire. I dont like watching them and it cant be good on them, while having fun are probably in pain. I am in no position to say anything though......even if i know that heaps of people agree, even spectators think they shouldnt be doing it! I liken dogs doing sports as athletes, they should be trim and fit, you certainly dont see fat unfit runners thats for sure! -
Flyball In Melbourne Western Burbs
Sayreovi replied to Ms James's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Not really, though it would be alot easier if your dog has good off leash manners. Dog has to be 12 months old to start training, but basics can be taught while they are young. Obedience clubs mainly run them. It isnt possible to teach your dog all the things required for flyball at home. -
Barf - Raw Mince?
Sayreovi replied to Love my Sonny and Neko's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yes bones are included. Pretty sure that you should be feeding two meals anyway. For me 70% of my dogs diet is bones. The rest is made up of vegies, mince, offal and other bits and pieces given during the day. -
What Foods Can Dogs "not" Eat?
Sayreovi replied to jayakita's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
If you go here Shmoo has posted a list of what is bad for dogs. I must say though i feed eggs a fair bit, and i give them other things on that list but never in a quantity that will make them sick. http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=81686 -
You will have HEAPS of juice leftover, dont mix it all together though unless you want to feed your dog a smoothie Mix enough to get sloppy mixture. Ive only just started BARF but i use pretty much any vegies and fruit (stones/pips removed) juiced. The i feed that either with or without mince (which is human grade beef), every couple of days, adding yoghurt and sardines. Plus i add the oils, yeast and powders. Every morning and every other night meal is bones. Mainly chicken frames/necks. I am adding things as i go along as well as not every mixture will suit every dog.

If the dog is taught to put the weight on his rear then it will not put much stress on their shoulders. However, if not taught properly at 2o2o on the Aframe will be damaging to their shoulders. Yeah i know, but how many people would be teaching the correct way? I certainly will not ever recommend it too a newbie thats for sure JMO

Ive pmd Natalie but i would also like a box (or two depending on when she gets them). So thats 3 of us

Whenever i feed something to my dogs i am thinking if wolves would be eating it. Raw eggs, yes.....cooked eggs no....it is much better for them to have raw eggs. Cooking pretty much everything makes the food lose nutrients.
-
I dont use 2o2o, and i dont like the way that its used for the Aframe it cant be good on the dogs shoulders. Generally, i taught them to run to a certain spot for contacts and praise/reward while they are on the contact not when they leave it.

I used to crack it open and pour it over their meal, over time i gradually left the egg more and more intact until they now eat it whole, not swallowed whole :D, they bite on it till the egg comes out then they eat the shell
