Thanks FP!! Ok i get Gamblers and Snooker but still confused on SP, what do you mean by legs?
-
Yeah just try and figure out the judges who will DQ you for it In the few trials i have been in, half of them said your dog has to be under control before leaving the ring, so dog wasnt allowed to run out and some did and got DQ but the other half said nothing and no one got DQ. Its interesting to say the least as a newbie!

Can someone please explain all the agility games too me, i get snooker and gamblers mixed up and not 100% sure of what too do anyway......and strategic pairs is still a little hazy. Is there anyone who could explain it so that its easy to understand and i wont get confused during the run?
-
 You could! Dont know really, i just didnt like how it seemed so flimsy, it was just alot of work and wasnt time effective as my dog was still soaking wet and i had no way to dry them.
-
Dont think it was mentioned, but you have to either pulp the veggies or really blend them. They cant just be chopped up as the veggies will just pass right through your dogs system. I would do as BC said and do alot of research before deciding, i read for a couple of months before actually starting my dogs on it.

I had one and hated it! Would much rather go to the groomers and do it there myself.

Remind me next time and i will bring some of my BARF mix for you too try out with her. You dont have to add anything too it apart from yoghurt, eggs and sardines occasionally I thought it would be hard but its actually really easy to put together. I also have the "Give your dog a bone" book you can read as well. I would try frames instead of necks as well, they arent so easy to swallow whole! As you know Darcy was a major picky eater, he just never ate alot and i hated the idea of starving him until he ate as he was already a skinny dog. Now he adores his dinner as much as Nova does!

Honestly dont know, the instructors have changed since i started, i mainly work on things by myself.

Bit of a late brag, but Nova at the recent Frankston flyball comp at the expo managed a personal best time of 5.3, his previous PB was 5.6! He averaged out around 5.5 for the entire day so he was flying!! I am very pleased, i seriously didnt think he could go any faster, because of his build and style of running but he proved me wrong

I think the price for a single membership is about $60-$70, renewal is about $30. There are discounts for VCA members. You can do whatever you want, but for agility and flyball you have to show control over your dog before its allowed off lead.....at one stage you had to get up to a certain level in obedience but dont know if thats enforced any more or not. I havent done an obedience class at the club in months! We only did it when it was testing day every other time i did agility/flyball.

Same, they either get just the fat or they get their own meal of bacon and eggs  With all these things you arent supposed to feed your dogs that i do on occasion feed i am wondering how on earth my dogs have survived for so long
-
Its what i do with both the food and training ideas If he goes into 'work' mode when the check chain is put on, can you train him without it? If he is really food motivated have you thought about using a clicker?
-
Have you tried taking him down to the club grounds during the week? If he is fine going into drive at home with no distractions, take it too the next step of new area and no distractions. Its too much to ask IMO going from your yard to a new place with heaps of dogs and people. If you are using food for just normal training, are you feeding him the morning or night before training?

Berwick would be the closest and then i reckon Frankston

Teaching Dog To Jump Onto Flyball Box
Sayreovi replied to Yarrowfell's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
My suggestion is too go back and train a better turn, so the dogs weight is thrown onto the box. A pug is heavy enough to trigger the box she just needs to learn thats what has too be done. I would also try putting a jump (small one) in front of the box so she has to jump over it. Try this without the ball first so she gets an understanding of what to do, some dogs arent co ordinated (or built well) enough to do it so i would try this first and if it doesnt work then retrain the turn. Have someone box load as well and when she comes up and is nearly about to scratch get them to pop the box for her so she gets used to the ball coming out as well. This one is too be used seperate. Good luck, there are 3 suggestions that i have used/seen used that may help, others may have suggestions as well -
Low Drive Versus High Drive Dogs
Sayreovi replied to ness's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Well if so many times, you have been taken the wrong way perhaps its not us but the way with your words You mentioned you were sick of crap.....in this thread i cant see any of that, i am not a mind reader, so dont know what threads you were thinking off Anyway, good luck with training your dog. -
Low Drive Versus High Drive Dogs
Sayreovi replied to ness's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Why use the exact same training techniques for a different dog? Just because you trained one dog with one method certainly doesnt mean it will work for the next dog. No one is having a go, or misinterpreting, Vickie just gave her opinion of drives in dogs and the influence of the owner. Really dont understand why you have got your hackles up -
What Breeds Can Be Used For Agility
Sayreovi replied to chloebear's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I agree, get a breed that you can live with first and then (if well structured) have a go at agility. Though must say i chose my breed with doing dog sports in mind but if i only wanted a dog to do sports with i would have gotten a working BC/Kelpie but my dogs are pets first. -
Low Drive Versus High Drive Dogs
Sayreovi replied to ness's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
When people are saying they only want a high drive dog, which drive are you talking about? By saying you are only after high drive dogs, but only use tug toys as rewards you knock out heaps of other dogs whose major drive is either food or you. Just a little confusing is all, i would say 80-90% of dogs have high drives but whether they are tapped into or not is another thing. -
Flyballers.......please
Sayreovi replied to experiencedfun's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
How can you not love.....Super Nova!!! -
Oh no, Obedience, Agility etc. and Schutzhund too! I do Ob myself but it's all interesting Well in that case.... For flyball, Nova i have to get out at least 5 minutes before we go in because he needs too pee on everything . I got a little slack about it once and he decided too pee right in front of the box, the captains on the day are quick to tell me to get him out because they know him so well . No real 'training' outside the ring sometimes do a few little stretches before we go in, Darcy has only competed once really so no set routine yet. For agility, Nova i take out 10 minutes before hand attempt to go to every pole/tree that he may decide he wants to go to and let him sniff/pee. Then i do a few focus and control exercises. I try to tire him out a little too knock that crazy dog out of him, i am not experienced enough to control that dog yet....give me a year then maybe i might Darcy is pretty good i try to rev him up a bit but thats pretty much it. For obedience, well i will let you know how my pre trial routine goes, i have my first obedience trial with Darcy on Saturday. Last time i was in the obedience ring good olè Nova embarrassed me completely, havent been back since

I feed BARF as well and feed twice a day, i think you are supposed to feed twice a day on BARF though..... They get a frame for breakfast and the meat/veggies for tea. My dogs are fed 80% RMB and 20% meat, veggies, offal etc How much are they getting fed?
