How Did You Teach Your Dog To Hold 2o/2o?
Sayreovi replied to laffi's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
2o/2o not 20/20  2 on 2 off. For agility contacts, the dog has 2 feet on the grass and 2 feet on the contact area. -
I dont know who is correct but i was checking out the weekly forecast on the TV for Canberra yesterday and it said it was to be mid 20s all weekend and possibly raining.
-
Yeah we are staying at Eaglehawk. That was the reason they told us too, bloody show people ruining it for the rest of us :p Perhaps we should list our dogs or pictures of them and what team we are from? I have two Tollers (one in avatar) and am from Berwick :D

Yeah, i got there at 5pm and didnt get in the ring until 8pm so i was watching all the runs......there did seem to be alot of dogs slipping and sliding on all the contacts more then usual, the A Frame in Ring 3 (i think) was really bad. It wasnt the entry side of the walk that was our problem, he was right on the top near the exit end when he slipped and fell off.

I am leaving Friday morning, doing the coastal route and sight seeing along the way, so not expecting to be in Canberra till late. A team-mate and i are staying in a caravan park that is apparantly only a k or two from the grounds We were staying out further but this place which wasnt accepting dogs opened up for the flyball dogs only (no show people ) due to lack of horse people.

Alot of dogs had trouble on the dogwalk......my boy fell off too and he wasnt going that fast. We only did novice agility as i wasnt sure how he would go, we didnt pass obviously but he did a fabulous run and after his fall did go back over the dog walk with confidence whereas 6 months ago he would have baulked at doing it again and i am very pleased with him. We were entered in novice jumpers but scratched. I know Leopuppy got a pass in novice agility, and i think his title?

I have one dog going on 6 this year and sometimes i really wonder what happened to his brain. He still acts 2 years old, the only area that he has actually calmed a bit and understood what is really required is flyball. Everything else is nearly a lost cause because of my nerves and his silliness but i am hoping that will change this year! My other boy is 3 and is very airy fairy! Attention span of a gold fish but gives incredible work when focused. I am very happy to wait till he settles because i know what he has in store when he does

I dont think he sees it as food as he doesnt eat it though occasionally it must smell nice because he does, it seems like merely having it in his possession after it has been in mine is what he is really working for Yes he will work for the same bit again if i take it off him which supports my little theory of him working for it because i have it not for what it is, ive even sat on the grass and got him to do things and rewarded him with grass......he even watches me pick the grass right in front of him and then give it too him
-
I am thinking of doing this with one of mine too see if it helps him keep weight on, so its nice and reassuring to see that dogs have been proven to being fertile after the effects have worn off.
-
They generally get what i am eating at the time. Its the only way Darcy will eat it, is if i am eating it before hand Nova will eat anything and has eaten a whole banana (including the peel) before, his favourite though is cold watermelon on a hot day.
-
Mine get fed twice. We have change too the Prey Model diet from BARF. They are fed RMB/frames in the morning and at night a chunk of meat they have to tear and rip at or if fed a frame that morning, a RMB. Our fasting day is generally Friday night/Saturday morning as we do training Saturdays.

For us its not the dog that needs work its the owner! I have an awesome little worker but i stuff it up by getting extremely nervous with him in the ring! So we took a leave of absence for awhile to focus on other things, but i am hoping the break did us all good and i will be able to start over Feralpup, that is how i feel exactly about obedience with my older boy. He can do Open work any where but I change in the ring and he picks up on it and plays up. So we went to the sport he knows and does well in....flyball

Nova: Food, will sell his soul for a piece of food!! Darcy: Food, toys, or praise.....anything i have is of value to him and like some other dogs here will work for a piece of grass
-
I am entered as well, in novice agility and jumpers. It will be interesting thats for sure, we havent done alot of training over the summer

I use the lunch meat rolls for most things, occasionally liver or kabana. For flyball comps i actually use dim sims, its the only time ever they get them and one boy in particular adores them which is what led me to only use them when he competes People laugh when i tell them what i use but hey if it works it works and i dont laugh at them using a tug toy
-
I dont really use a hand signal, i am able to bow myself and say bow and he will do it
-
I dont think ive seen someone catch a Golden, they would be too heavy and awkward i would think. Ive seen the little ones do it and BCs generally but they are lighter then Aussies and Goldens. How heavy are your dogs and are they 'light' or 'heavy' jumpers?

I was searching for a vet who could do it over this side of the city and found none, majority of the nurses i spoke to had no idea what it even was. One of my local vets quoted me about $400 for it :D I did say it was a simple blood test that they dont actually do anything for, just draw blood and send it away pretty much, i then asked to justify the price of that and i pretty much got hung up on! There is a vet that does know what to do (was the first in Victoria to actually do it) but for the life of me cant remember her name....hopefully someone will.
-
Thats cute, one of mine did that too, cant remember why he dropped the ball but he ended up doubling back just as he was about to cross the line, picked it up and brang it back.....he also looked very proud, at least they know exactly what they are supposed to do :p

She is looking stunning LP!! I the prancing. So what will be her first trial?

Aww thats gorgeous! Go the little Pug! I havent seen one of them run, looking forward to seeing her run at the Nationals -
They are the ones that are generally sold as soup bones in supermarkets. Must admit though i have on occasion given them to my dogs, when i find ones that have alot of meat on them. My two dont try and eat the harder bone now, they just chew the meat off and leave the harder bone bits for me too pick up. ETA: I would supervise with these bones, so i only feed them when i have time to sit outside for awhile with them.
