  1. Ahh you gotta stop posting that Poor Darcy didnt like the stuff before the box....silly boy....at least Nova ran well (for someone else ) I agree with whats been said, get her under sufficient control and then into flyball! If she is a smaller staffy the team will love you even more
  2. Like a few others the retrieve has caused us trouble :D Was teaching Nova dumbell retrieve with the clicker, we were getting somewhere....up to him holding it when *one* single bloody time he was too quick (and i was too slow) and he got clicked for touching the dumbell with his paw. Of course this would be the one thing he picks up on so now i have a dog that will lay next to the dumbell and place a paw on it, no matter how many times ive tried to 'correct' this behaviour :p
  3. Are you looking at competing in obedience with her at all? If not i personally would either take a break from obedience for awhile, or give it up altogether. Much rather spend my time and energy on something that we both enjoy then feel crappy and miserable at the end of a training session. Some dogs i personally think just dont like obedience regardless of training methods and rewards. If you think she would enjoy therapy, give it a go
  4. I recently enquired with Action Dogs and have been put on the waiting list. I have been told my friend, that had 2 friends that have joined, it can take up to 12months to get in?! I Would love another club in the south east for sure! Ive been on the waiting list for K9 Agility for nearly 2 years, i figure they forgot me or havent allowed any one in since.....who isnt willing to instruct that is, last time i heard from them they asked if i could instruct.....i couldnt so i got rejected and others i know (who do instruct) got in. Easier to just buy your own equipement and use it at home Gotta be hard though there is alot of demand for training, i just dont like that they advertise then when you ring up to join, they say "ohh sorry too full for the next 6-12 months"
  5. I have used the 'push pull' method and V weaving, by far the latter has produced the best results. The dog has a clearer understanding of what is required, is a reliatively fast as well as a reliable weaver with good entries.
  6. We travelled from Victoria to Queensland last year and Victoria to Canberra earlier this year for flyball. My local comp out here is 2.5 hours away. Will be travelling 5 hours for a double back to back......wouldnt do it for a single trial!
  7. Cant go past little Tiger, the Pap, my favourite little dog to watch. Well done to Bear, such an awesome time for a large dog!! Who says Borders are the only fast dogs?
  8. There must be something that he will drive for.....if not you may just have to be content to have a dog that you have to run the whole course with Hope someone can help ETA: I take it he is clicker trained? Can you build the drive for a ball by clicker? Thats how i trained the drive in one of mine, he didnt have any interest in a ball until i clicker trained him going after (and then bringing back) the ball.
  9. Can you build his drive for a ball? I had a dog that wouldnt drive ahead either but after training with a tennis ball i can send him forward as he now looks ahead (at the next obstacle) rather then turning to me for directions.
  10. Before i walk the course my aim is a pass, after i walk it the aim may be to complete a section successfully.
  11. I have two dogs, both compete in flyball (National Champs :D), Darcy does agility and obedience as well. Nova well.....we have competed in both but it was a disaster so back to training for both of us Both dogs are in training for UD, and can do CDX easily, its my nerves in obedience that get in the way especially with Nova. We are also attempting tracking at the moment too Looking to add a third dog soon as well
  12. How'd you know i would be reading this thread again? Awesome, photos are good
  13. I am not sure, you wouldnt want something big and bulky though and that looks like it would be when the dog just wants to run! The less restrictive and the less it weighs the better for the dog. The harness is more or less something for the handler rather then dog, we just need something to grab hold of the dog and have a firm grip without strangling....which wouldnt be a problem if you have a calm flyball dog. Though one of my boys gets very excited at having the harness put on and it does distinguish what they are about to do.
  14. Have the ones from Ebay as well, they are still in great condition and the only difference between those ones and Blackdog is the label Before you buy though, try one on your dog, as some dont like wearing them and you could just get the collar with handle instead.
  15. Ohh ohh me.......if i wasnt in another bloody state Maybe Mel (StaffnToller) would be interested?
  16. Depends what position i am in, if i am starting with Darcy i kneel down and get him to sit with his back against my knees, i hold his harness on the sides and lift him slightly just before i let him go. I talk too him the whole time, revving him up. He is a very calm dog in flyball, rarely makes a noise, does it because i ask rather then him loving it but is still quick so i am looking forward to him actually loving flyball and going nuts Ive started kneeling at every release with Darcy as he seems to prefer it but used to stand and do the same as with Nova. Nova is a nutter who loves his flyball, any position he is standing on my left with me holding the harness. He knows whats going on and knows when he is about to go, but i still rev him a bit asking if he is ready in an excited voice. Then i pull him back slightly and yell at him to 'go' at the same time as bowling him in
  17. Interesting question. Ive never had a bitch in heat and a cat/rabbit in the same spot at the same time to judge which he would rather be after.....though i can control him alot easier around a bitch then a prey item. Regarding bitches competing in obedience/agility trials, i wouldnt risk my bitch doing a trial surrounded by offlead entire males that their owners might not have trained to ignore. I have no problems at all showing my male, i usually want a bitch in front of us....makes him look better stacked
  18. Sunflower oil, i have heard it does wonders Should add that it has improved my show dogs coat immensly.
  19. Great clip SM, she only lost by a nose!! Just wait till Molly becomes more confident in herself racing then race them again
  20. We do running contacts, though it is still a work in progress that like someone has said you need the equipment in your backyard too do it well, so it ends up being a 'please dont miss' kind of contact
  21. Generally they walk in front of me, its easier that way and if need be i can call them back to the heeling position. When walked seperately they are beside me or slightly in front.
  22. The nationals are in October I think and the Tassie people were talking about holding their comp around this time of the year. Ahh ok then, i would love to go to Tassie, never been and its the state i really want to visit
  23. Is the Nationals in April? When were people thinking of going over?
  24. So Montanna, going to reveal who you are?
