No, Yes, Yes, Yes and Yes. My dogs always have (flat) collars on so I don't consider that a training aid.

When Is A Pup No Longer A Pup?
Sayreovi replied to Just Midol's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Everything under 18 months I think of as a pup regardless of breed and maturity. -
What's it saying Midol? That check chains don't seem to work for the majority of people even given the right "training" themselves? No you have it wrong. I said that I've never seen a dog trained with a check chain walk as well with it off as it did when on. Others are saying they have.....well I haven't which is where I came too my conclusion, different experiences = different opinions, and that doesn't mean we don't know how they are used  Ok. Except that your earlier post which sweepingly claimed them (PPCollars & Check Chains) as being "gimmicky tools" that arent 'training' in my eyes they are just a temporary solution that dont 'fix' anything" seems contradictory to that and gives the impression that you don't understand the concept of how these tools are used in "training". I'm presuming now that was unintentional. Just because I think they don't work doesn't mean I am opposed to others using them....it's their dog and way of training. Some people probably think that using clickers don't work, same thing. If it really is effectively training the dog, than why do "experienced dog owners and trainers" still put a check or prong on their dogs once they have been "trained"?

Meeka: Isn't it amazing how we have no idea or understanding just because we don't agree with him?
-
Mate, I am the only one laughing because I am the only one (who is posting at least) who knows how ignorant you are! Clickers, food, toys, my voice and flat collars here. On my own two dogs mainly. Well I am not actually opposed to them being used, I have used check chains before with no success even under trainers supervision and guidance (pretty sure I posted that but it went un-noticed as things do) but never on puppies or on dogs that I haven't at least tried other methods first. I also previously stated that I know some dogs require them.
-
I hope they're insulted, they're not very good trainers if they don't know how to condition. I'm not entirely sure I'd consider then experienced trainers if they don't understand the basics of using training aids. It's not something that's tied in with the aid, it's common with all aids. Ahh Midol, Midol, Midol I really shouldn't laugh at you but you are making a fool of yourself and I am enjoying watching you do so
-
*yawns* Yup Midol, ignorance is bliss......especially when others can't fathom that I have different experiences and therefore different takes on how they are effective.....but then again what am i saying? You are always right aren't you? Mmm i am sure all those experienced trainers that have demostrated to me would be slightly insulted if they read your post but anyway.....
-
Isn't it great that I really just don't care? I am familiar enough to have formed the opinion I have, maybe I've only seen them used the wrong way......who knows.....either way that is my opinion on the tools for now and I never expected everyone to agree with me

2009 Training/title Wish List
Sayreovi replied to Ptolomy's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Gosh, i don't think i accomplished even one goal from the 2008 thread! Nova: Any title will be good but doubtful, he did achieve a massive goal this year being a National Champ in flyball......that looks like it might be the top of his accomplishments so i am really pleased with him.....can't really top that Training wise we aren't doing any formal training, more him learning how to be a good relaxed and controlled inside dog. Darcy: We are going for his agility titles this year, and i really want his show title but that doesnt look promising at the moment. Like Nova he achieved high in flyball but he still has alot of improvement left. He is also working 'in training' as well be a good little inside dog -
Unless the rules have changed in the past few months, than yes, you can use a squeaky toy BUT only if the other team agree to let you use it, plus you have to be aware that it very well could distract your own team mates dogs! So its not best to rely on a toy that squeaks....and they might not hear it over the commotion of the race

If You Could Trial Any Breed....
Sayreovi replied to whitka's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
If she ever made it to Perth - I would give him a go too I could swap you Nova for...hmmmmm Blaize Deal or no deal Now you have offers coming out of your ears! Offers offers offers!!! Mmm Blaize eh? She will be giving you evil looks for giving her to a handler that has no idea!! Off to look at upcoming trials LP and Helen, you're on! He is bloody full on, but he has amazing drive and is very fast for his size, just needs a tougher hand and someone who is confident (I am neither with him) He has ran for other people in flyball so i very much doubt he will have any problem running for someone else. -
Awesome acheivement Bisart!! She is a gorgeous looking Dobe......though that Darred is something

Would love to give a Dobermann a go So sleek and elegant -
How did you know?! I worship the man, have a little shrine.....*whispers* Don't tell anyone! Mmm so how many nice Collies did you meet after the one that bit you? Have to be at least one right? See right there.....thats the difference

So what. All breeds attack. Do you avoid all dogs ? Yes a Rottwieller will do more damage than most, but a vicous dog half the size can still tear you to pieces. In the security industry they reckon that a dog can take down a man 5 times its weight. Am i not being clear enough? Must not as my point is taken the wrong way again. I was not talking about Rotties but rather all breeds i just happened to have an example with Rotties in it, there is nothing wrong with being aware of what your breed is capable of and admitting it.......i am aware that my breed, though highly unlikely, can cause damage because they are still a dog......but the ones that ARE causing serious damage arent the best examples of the breed but they are still the breed......sorry still not explaining myself properly ;) Yes, i do generally avoid all dogs when out on walks or anywhere really, unless i feel they will be OK. Ohh don't mean to be picky, but it's RottwEILer, it's just hard to take someone seriously if they don't know how to spell the breed ;) No, most here wouldnt. I certainly would not. You make out like thats hard to believe. Theres the problem right there its with your attitude alone. Mate, there is nothing wrong with my attitude I've seen several people on here mention how they avoid SWF, how is that any different to my situation? Ahh Poodlefan, i agree 100%, that's what i've been trying to say!! Except you did it in one and i had several attempts ;) Delkerabo: In a round about way i agree, too say a breed is safe based on your (in general not yours) own dogs is silly, as is having a fear of them based on a few individuals ;)
-
It's better to have people slightly paranoid and avoid certain areas especially if one has a young pup, then for people to remain oblivious and expose their dog/pup. I don't believe that's it wrapping them in cotton wool, more being aware of the risks and trying to reduce them So don't stop posting MM Fingers crossed for Hef

Matey, take a chill pill Mmm.....so which part is so stupid? In order.......first paragraph, alot of owners here are saying "ohh MY dog doesn't do this or that" or you should go down to a Rottie club to see the well behaved Rotts.....my point was that the owners of the dogs that HAVE attacked are NOT owned by Dolers nor likely to be well behaved......do you disagree with that part? Or maybe the second bit? My experience and therefore (irrational) reaction to a breed? Suppose no one on here would avoid a certain breed based on previous experience? Same thing..... Nah it would have to be the third part, right? Well.....you are my case and point dear

Don't know if they are using the same one still, but I went to PetChow in Mulgrave on Shoeys recommendation. They do the veggy part too so i think the same place? Pet Chow 903a Springvale Rd Mulgrave ph: (03) 9548 2796 I primarily used Priority Pets (Didn't sell pets when i went there) They have a larger supply and variety than Pet Chow did but didnt do the vegetable part. 154 Cheltenham Rd Dandenong ph: (03) 9791 8877 For veggies i used the Farmers Market shop in Narre Warren, across from The Warehouse. When i was feeding BARF, i tended to go for beef or lamb for their meat, as they were already getting a large amount of chicken through the bones already.

Ohh Puhhlease!! Get of your high horse! Did you actually read my post??? I said the dogs that are attacking/harrassing people arent owned by Dolers nor is it very likely they go to the local Rottie clubs obedience classes Where in my post did i say ban any breed? Please point out my stupid comment as well.....will be interesting what part of my experience with the breed is stupid? Sure you can TELL them that the dog is fine, but dont you think that.....maybe just maybe....is what the delightful owner said before the dog ran across the road and tried to kill my dog? How many times have you heard an owner yell that out while their dog is running over to you obviously not fine? I see that trying to prove that owners of the breed have a good head on their shoulders and not willing to attack those who disagree with them IS'NT alive and well on DOL.......shame really
-
Ohh yes because the Rotties and other large breeds that attacked or harrassed people are owned by Dolers or go to regular obedience training They are obviously dogs with no training and as already mentioned would have no problems throwing their weight and muscle around! I for one, also cross the street to avoid Rotts in particular because i've only had bad experiences with them.....yes sure there are probably a few around that are nice and well mannered but i would rather not risk my dogs or myself on the hope that it may be nice Each to their own, though some posters leave alot to be desired with their comments, its not doing alot to help your cause

Don't know how that happened

Why months? My kelpie started at 13 months with a 6 inch channel and in 3 weeks was weaving 12 poles in a straight line with speed. We worked at it twice a day, morning and night for about 3 minutes at a time with lots of rewards. We didn't have access to weavers during the week, the home made ones weren't capable of standing up to dogs pushing through them, we worked on entries and footing at home but couldn't work on speed. If you have your own proper made ones, then obviously would take shorter time than those that don't
