  1. Thanks Mandalay! Sounds like we are close to alot of things so that's pretty good Dogs are allowed in the rooms, which is why we are staying there
  2. We are coming up as well, staying in a hotel though, no camping for us!! I've never really been to Albury except passing through, can anyone suggest some good places to eat or things to see?
  3. Aww they are beautiful!!! I love dingoes, I want to go.....do you need a special reason to visit? I notice they are by appointment only is all...
  4. Did she mention anything about changing it from a sweepstake to actual points being awarded? Bit optimistic I know but still......i only spoke to the secretary of East Gippsland and only asked if points were awarded for the class, she probably thinks I am a nufty for asking that but if she didn't know about the new title?
  5. Dear Entrants It is with regret that the Berwick Obedience Dog Club announce that due to the state of the club grounds being water logged, that the club has decided to cancel the agility trial that was planned for Sunday 25th July. If we could foresee fine weather in the coming week, the ground may have had enough time to dry and be safe to run on but it has been deemed by the Agility Committee to be unsafe at this time. If you have sent Money Orders for your entries, I will arrange to have a club cheque sent to you as quickly as possible to refund your money. If you have sent personal cheques, they will be destroyed unless you have entered in the last 10 days and I have an envelope here to return your cheque here. If you are concerned, email me in the next few days and I will mail cheques back to competitors upon request. Again, our apologises but we do not feel that the ground is safe for dogs or handlers to compete on. Regards Joanne Samuelson Trial Secretary -------------------- Please pass it around, what a pity, I was really looking forward to this trial as well!
  6. Well that's crap, it's listed as a special class but it's only a sweepstake, I rang the secretary to find out......ohh well we have entered and will be there anyway
  7. whereabouts?!!?! I haven't found any that I can enter yet They are all a fair hike, the Murray Valley 3 show weekend is offering it all three days, as well as the East Gippsland 3 show weekend on the Saturday and Sunday. Usually I couldn't be bothered travelling so far, but we are taking them as a 'mini holiday' and I have two dogs to show now Murray Valley closed on the 16th, and East gippsland closes today (East Gipp you can enter at Ozentries) If you wanted to do Murray give the sec a call and see if they will still accept entries?
  8. Yay for neuter shows, Nova has been entered in 5 shows so far already
  9. It's been happening here as well, will be quiet then all of a sudden you will hear them getting out of bed and running around barking They are weird but aren't usually loud at night and I can't hear anything?
  10. I entered online, much easier......hope I actually can attend this years one!
  11. Can anyone recommend pet friendly places to stay? Preferably that allows dogs inside with them?
  12. Did anyone else know about this? I don't mind doing it, just thankful someone mentioned something before people started entering their desexed dogs in shows! People wishing to be involved with getting Neuter Class Rolling. Bilbo Baggins (VIC) Bilbo Baggins Junior(VIC) Aziah (NSW) Capanash (VIC GoldenWei (NSW) Jilldog (NSW) LoTTy (TAS) leopuppy04 (VIC) Tollersowned (VIC)
  13. Might go for a trip to Murray Valley!! I have a neuter dog who loved the show ring so would love to get back into it!
  14. That day has come and gone.. a long time ago. I think the behaviour I find the most objectionable is that those owners who express concern for the safety of their dogs are somehow held to be "over protective" or the inference is given that if the dog can't cope, there's something wrong with the dog or its upbringing. Advice like "don't pick your dog up" neglects to face the reality that a dog on lead, on the ground is a sitting duck for aggression. It can't fight and it can't flee. My advice is if you can't pick your dog up, let the leash go and give your poor dog a chance to defend itself. Arr no, poodlefan, lol. Letting the leash go and hoping that one's dog has a chance of running away and having more of a chance of defending itself, imo, is not giving the dog a chance at all. If the dog that is let loose happens to be a swf and the aggressor is a larger dog....what chance will the swf stand of running away? Actually, PF said if you can't pick it up let the leash go.....you can easily pick up a swf! Don't care what anyone says, if you feel your dog is threatened and you can pick it up, do it! I did it too my dogs when they were puppies.
  15. While I don't own a small breed, I agree. Small dog owners IMO are faced with more problems when walking then their dogs then the rest of us. Never knowing if that large dog over there might rush over and kill your dog (unintentionally or not) would be extremely stressful on both owner and dog. I really want a Papillon but not sure how I would go raising such a small dog. Poor thing would never walked by itself, I would always have one of my others with it just in case we are rushed the dog rushing may go for the larger dog instead. Obviously not ideal but I would rather deal with a few bite marks than a dead dog.
  16. I agree. Instructors may know more about dog training than the average person but I know more about training MY dog than they do, so when I say it won't work, it really won't work. I awlays have a giggle when they take my youngest to demonstrate with, after I tell them not to bother of course, and he just ignores them. I changed clubs because my dogs and I weren't having fun with what we were doing, we were basically being made to do a certain task which I hated doing, I knew my dog hated doing it and I feared for his safety. They knew all this and still kept at it, so I was pissed off and left. The new club I am with is 100% happy with what I want to do, I explained everything before I joined and pretty much asked if there was any point in joining. They acknowledged that I knew my dogs capabilities in doing this sport as we had been doing it for years, so I am now with a new club. I lost alot of confidence in one of my dogs (and him in me) at the first club, because I never really knew if he would do it or not and of course he picked up on my unease which made it worse. Though I never blamed him but myself for staying. We are making progress now but I would never do that too myself or my dogs again.
  17. I rarely need to go to the vets but I use the one in main street, have for years and still haven't changed vets :D
  18. Nope, I don't either. I can tell what is normal with them and what isn't, and do a full body check over once a week when I do the full groom for any sore spots or unusual lumps and bumps. Then I take it from there. They are both young, clearly healthy and fit so don't see any need to take them only too be told that, when they are older obviously more vet visits if it's required.
  19. Name: Nova (Ch Ximinez Driver Reviver AFCH) Nickname: Nove, Novini, Tubs, Wolfe Breed: Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Gender: Male (desexed) Age: 7 Picture: Nova is in the background Where did you get them from? Registered Breeder How often do you exercise your dog? Usually once a day, twice if I am up early enough. For about an hour, mix of on and off lead. Weekends we are usually out and about all day. Do they know any commands? The usual obedience and agility ones, speak, bow, spin, shake, paw Darcy (puts paw on Darcys shoulder) Are you are wolf? (Howls in return) Compete in any dog sports? We used to compete heavily in flyball, along with Darcy managed to win at a National and became the divisional National Champ :D Training him in tracking at the moment. Would like to try and get him back into agility and obedience. Might have to wait till he ages more mentally before I try that again LOL Favourite treat: Dim Sims Favourite toy: Those cheap rainbow coloured squeaky toys with all those ends. Funny habits or quirks: He does tumbling rolls while running, and tends 'play' with other dogs by flopping down on them. Has dust baths whenever there is dry dirt. We actually have a fairly big hole that he created and would go and roll in it every day. What's their personality like? Independent but loves being close, extremely intelligent so thinks of new ways of doing something, massive softy who loves being hugged. Loves being the center of attention and doesn't care why he is being looked at as long as he just is Adores strangers, apparantly every single person has food just for him! Do they get along well with other dogs? Yes though dislikes bigger dominant dogs. Are they scared of anything? Thunder and really loud noises, though both are easily overcome by a bone. What training methods do you use? Positive reinforcement? Corrections? Clicker training. Name: Darcy (Magpielane Rebel Wind) Nickname: Daars, Darcia, Mr Darcy Breed: Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Gender: Male (Entire) Age: 5 Picture: Darcy is the one with all the white. Where did you get them from? Registered Breeder How often do you exercise your dog? Same as Nova, though is let off lead more. Do they know any commands? Usual obedience and agility ones, speak, bow, shake, spin, Go to bed. Compete in any dog sports? Agility, Flyball, Obedience, Showing. Haven't done much recently but trying to enter trials. Favourite treat: Anything I have, but mainly chicken Favourite toy: His Cuz's, there is about 10 floating around the yard, and only he plays with them! Funny habits or quirks: Doesn't like getting wet and dirty, but is a mad water retriever. If he is retrieving something out of the water all his fastidious cleanliness goes out the window. What's their personality like? Soft, he is a massive sooky boy! Loves loves cuddles, will sit next to me for ages hoping I look his way and pat him. He can be a little blond at times but he makes it up with his enthusiasm to please. Do they get along well with other dogs? Sometimes, he is never aggressive but he can have bad doggy manners at times. He gets a little overexcited, so he doesn't play often. Are they scared of anything? Not really, as he matured all his fears vapourised. He can be uncertain about new things but if I ignore or encourage (depending on situation) he gets over it really quick. What training methods do you use? Positive reinforcement? Corrections? Clicker Training.
  20. I did when they were younger, but now very rarely do and seeing as they are 7 and 5 years old I don't forsee any seperation issues to come into play now. I don't seperate them when I go to work either because they never formed that really close bond with each other that alot of dogs that live together do. Sometimes I do wish they had a closer bond where they would do more things together, I feel sad every time I see photos of DOLers dogs sleeping basically on top of each other as mine never do but then again they are more attached to me than each other. I do seperate them on occasions where I can only take one dog or where I want to train only one of them. Neither has seperation issues and a bone when I leave one behind takes care of any tantrums thrown because they didn't get to go. Hoping to have a pup by the end of the year, and I am not sure if I want her to have a closer attachment to my other dogs or do what I did with my previous boy. Though if she is anything like her dad (who is my youngest boy) I think I would need to try and make sure she doesn't get too attached to the other dogs.
  21. Thanks for that DancinBCs! Also to those who PM'd me their versions. I've made one up based on a few and I am pretty proud of myself Now fingers crossed the bitch takes!
  22. I have done a search but couldn't come up with anything. My boy is being used at stud for the very first time (and mine too) so was wondering if anyone had a stud agreement they could throw my way? Without sounding too naive hopefully, what is the purpose of a stud agreement?......I know if anything goes wrong etc etc. but I trust the breeder completely and am very happy an experienced breeder is using my male. We have both agreed on my receiving a puppy in lieu of a stud fee and 95% of her pups are pets and limited register anyway, the ones that aren't live with her or already have agreements in place. Do I need to include these in the agreement? I thought I would have awhile to work this out but the bitch came into season a month early so will be here Monday :D So very excited though
  23. I've been wondering this myself, as I am learning another language at the moment and wondering if I retrain some parts could I have a better result with a different language. Interesting. I know dogs don't understand words but rather the tone and pronounciation so another language for the same English word could possibly be better than retraining a command that may have a slightly negative connection? Just thinking out loud about something I've wondered on the past few days, as when I mutter Swedish too my dogs they look at me with uncertainty as they don't know what I am "saying" rather than a "knowing" look.
  24. Only if everyone wears their DOL names, otherwise I wouldn't have a clue who was who!! Done deal, I shall be the one with 2 Tollers! I am wanting to retrain my contacts pretty much and just work on general directing, I don't mind sharing with someone else if they have something they want to work on if it won't interfere. It's good to bounce ideas around as well. Plus I know my dogs get bored quickly so can't do things reptitiously, so would book for at least an hour so I have a decent training time. My training usually goes, train 5 minutes, break/play 5 minutes etc etc. Half an hour would be pointless IMO
