  1. Yeah OK, but that was only for one day? The other day they are right after the other? My numbers go Friday 196 (I think), Saturday/Sunday 206 and 207 and then Saturday/Sunday 400 and something and then 500 and something. Very confusing when the other numbers follow each other. One entire and one neuter......I guess I will find out tomorrow what the hell eh? ETA: Never mind I figured it out on the drive over!
  2. I don't know if ginger has the same affects on dogs that it does on people, but wouldn't hurt to try, however I wouldn't go feeding her before or during the car trip. Having food in her stomach may make her a bit sick whereas she might have been fine beforehand. I would try Rescue Remedy instead, you can find that in the chemist, I've found it useful and have to get more before I go get my puppy
  3. Are there any Tollers entered and what day are they on? TIA
  4. Did anyone else think that the dogs were judged very fast? I am not complaining just curious, I am usually on around 2pm for the same number of dogs (150) at a metro show but on Friday was in for breed at 12, missed my call for the Saturday show , and completely done (groups as well) by 12.30 today. Wish more shows went as quick as these did, I enjoyed having the afternoons off to do things
  5. Even a dog who is terrible off lead can get so focused in flyball they are no problem off lead, they are completely absorbed in gettign to the ball and bringing it back. Whilst I agree, and it can be done......one of mine is pretty unreliable off lead but was a very consistent dog when competing, I honestly would get a good recall first, having a dog that may or may not stick around is such a play on the nerves especially during comps(!!) and can be bad for the relationship between dog and owner. My other boy was a gem and wouldn't stray far and was so much more relaxing to train I would stay on lead until basics are done and then once she is doing it reliably, move running with bunting up to stop her running off and then move to an open area.
  6. I know this is a sensitive topic but I agree with you, unless my dogs were at deaths door already because of age or disease I can understand the reasoning behind it but to PTS healthy younger dogs is just wrong IMO. My dogs would stay in the family one way or another, or if none of them were capable I would hope the breeders would take them back, if after all that still no success they would do the whole MDBA Pacers thing as they would both be extremely rehomeable......still gotta look into that though. But that is the point. Some of us who have chosen to pts did so because our pets are NOT rehomable in a traditional sense. Bart is a very large greyhound with a very strong prey-drive. As he has matured his prey drive has become stronger - quite dramatically stronger and I don't trust someone else to manage that. I would hate to think that he went to the wrong home and killed someone's dog or cat because he wasn't properly managed. He wouldn't pass the GAP test anymore (though he did at 12 months of age) so they couldn't take him back. All my other dogs would go to family or their breeders if both OH and I died BUT Bart is just not one who can. Other people have dogs that are seriously dog aggressive. Maybe my point of view is different from having spent 6 years working in rescue - I understand how genuinely difficult (if not impossible) it is to find homes for dogs like that. Dogs don't understand euthanasia, they don't fear it and I think it is the last kind thing I can do for Bart. Yes, maybe I should have added extreme behavioural/mental issues as well, but as people aren't posting whether or not their dog has that serious of an issue that it is required to be PTS, that at the moment all I can see in my head is fairly well adjusted healthy dogs being PTS. So my disagreement is more aimed at others who's dog can be rehomed. I know you work in rescue so would have a good idea of what is or isn't able to be rehomed.

  8. I know it's not viable for some, but this is one of the reasons why I am just going to drive over to Adelaide to pick up my puppy! Should have been easy....an Adelaide to Melbourne direct flight, but still some of these stories are horrible and not something I want to experience.
  9. I agree, a calmer older dog would suit as they go great at agility and are good with kids. However finding that dog will be very hard, older Tollers that need new homes are few and far between, will be even harder finding one that fits your situation. So a puppy would be the way too go, but then you may end up with an overactive nutcase One of my boys would fit in well, he is a very sweet, calm and easy to train but his dad was like that so like PF said, from the right lines would be another breed to look at. Give me another month and I can tell you if his daughter has inherited some of his personality
  10. We stayed at Shady Acres Caravan Park. I am sure the dogs slept inside when we stayed but that was years ago, not sure if they are allowed inside now or not, website seems to indicate they still are.....I am also looking at going to the shows and staying here again. Its not in town, its on the highway just before the turnoff to go into Ballarat. http://www.ballaratcaravanpark.com/
  11. Aww puppy! Congrats on the new addition LP. They look like they get on fab together, can't wait till I get my pup.....though I will probably have name calling issues as well, especially seeing as they are all the same colour
  12. People are usually very helpful. At the Murray Valley shows I had the only two of the breed there, and as one was desexed I didn't need a hand with run offs, but after the first show I had a couple people offer to hold one while I showed the other instead of running to crate and swapping dogs! I usually have a second person to help me but she wasn't able to come for these shows. While I have been showing for years, I do it so infrequently I doubt people would remember me, so for experienced people to help a "newbie" was a great thing to see ;)
  13. I was there yesterday and couldn't believe how much water was in the car park! Is going to be fairly interesting for tomorrows show as it was quite deep as well, wouldn't want to be driving a small car through it
  14. I agree, though I am not really into showing as much as others. Sometimes my boy will sit in the show ring, mainly when we are in for groups and have been told by the judge to 'rest your dog' Though at his last show we were finishing going around the ring for the judge and as soon as I stopped he promptly sat and looked at me like "Aren't I a good boy?", he gotten distracted for a second and automatically sat when I stopped....excellent in the obedience ring not so much in the show ring Judge didn't care as he got up just as quick and stood. Don't know why some showies don't at least teach the dog basic home manners though
  15. Yes I was surprised and disappointed about the lack of entries for the neuters as well Though maybe seeing entries at a metro show would be more of an indication, not everyone with a neuter has the inclination to travel several hours just to show, I only did because I had an entire dog as well.
  16. Sheree e4 - She is just beautiful, I really like Koolies, they are beautiful dogs but not sure if I would do them justice so never really thought about them more ;) I can finally join in this thread, my baby girl was born 1.5 weeks ago, she is a very special girl as well as being my youngest boys first and more than likely only litter, she is being named in rememberance of my mum who passed this year and it was a singleton litter!! So glad I wanted a girl I have attached a picture of pup and the handsome dad She has her daddy's white stripe Her name (at this stage) will be Jovi, coincinding with her registered name *prefix* Living on a prayer......
  17. Ohh really? Didn't know entries only just closed, my bad!
  18. Ahh, looks like I might have to get there when the show starts instead of lunchtime like I usually do!!
  19. Tollers Aussie Shepherd Papillon Tamaskan German Shepherd (Sable or black that is mostly WL) Bernese Mountain Dog Border Collie Dingo Whippet Belgian Shepherd Dog (Terv or Mal) I already have 2 (soon to be 3) Tollers, so am going for a bigger dog next time
