  1. Cool, will have a look at Warringal then! Never had a problem with start line stays, didn't lead out as far as I usually do though. OK I get what you mean, will have to have a think and a play at training. Yes, smart dog but not a very cheap dog Yup, I had the terrible trio of Tollers. I thought I recognized a couple of the blue merle BC's but didn't realise you had come down from NSW!
  2. I don't think I achieved any of my goals this year either! Might get them next year though! Nova: Start trialling in tracking! Work on his stays and do a few CCD trials (big maybe! Don't know if my nerves could handle it!) Darcy: Enter a few more agility trials and get at least his ADX and JDX. Do a few obedience trials Start tracking Do his ET Get his show title Get back into flyball and get a PB of at least 4.3! Jovi: Start her "proper" obedience training Learn basics for agility and flyball Get her show title Me Relax Remain cool, calm and collected at trials
  3. I didn't realise that was you otherwise I would have come and said 'hello'! The Dally should have been a dead giveaway but it didn't click on the day Some good tips, will have to do those.....have to track down some more Rescue Remedy by the sounds of it! Honestly can't even think of 5 good things we did (3 would be pushing it) :D, it was a disaster, he ignored cues and obvious obstacles where they were directly in front of him and he just went around them. Don't get me wrong I don't blame him, I stuffed up as I know he can do it all good and fast. I think a main factor was I already decided we would do crap because of the weather, he hates getting his feet wet and he doesn't like the rain, so we don't train in it......my mindset was already on a fail and so we did! Might have to give Warringal a go, I think that's the next one.
  4. Well our first trial back was a shocker!! We DQ'd all our classes bar one and we still didn't get a pass for that one because I was .5 of a second out of course time.......still don't agree with that especially as it was people with stopwatches so not very reliable timing methods. I was way too nervous for us too do any good, Darcy is a very sensitive dog and would have felt it and acted accordingly by being really distracted and plodding around the ring instead of his usual full speed running. The good thing was he didn't miss a weaver (except when he ran past it distracted ) and got all his contacts. He does everything perfectly on his own and at dog club surrounded by dogs, I can work him very well at a distance outside of a trial (I barely run ) but he wouldn't do that at the trial and I don't usually work so close too him so my handling was crap as well I wouldn't particulary call him weak nerved as he competed successfully in flyball which is more distracting than an agility trial IMO. Would you keep entering trials hoping that his focus and your nerves get better or what??
  5. I recently named my show puppy. I already had her call name picked out, so wanted to stick to that theme. So maybe pick something in relation to Lion King (if thats where Nala came from :D) My puppy's name is 'Jovi' and her show name is Sherbrooke Living On A Prayer. Fit in well and I really love it
  6. Well seeing as colour is a characteristic of the breed, then I don't understand why you seem so hell bent on saying that Tollers should be bred in other colours? In your fantasy show land, do the DQ colours eventually go up against the allowed colours?
  7. Do you not get that some breeds colour IS one trait of the dog? I hope that people like you stay out of my breed, so it can continue to function the way it has for many many years and there is no chance of people trying to make a quick buck by basterdising the breed with inferior quality dogs of disqualified colours. A disqualified colour does not make for an "inferior" dog and it is certainly not a "bastard" either. It's the same in GSD where the occasional white pup appears, most breeders would baulk at that and perhaps opt to cull it but at the end of the day it is still very much a GSD with the same traits and temperament and guard dog abilities as your typical black and tan, for example. That is what I am trying to say....dogs of a disqualified colour can still 'FUNCTION'....THEY may not attract ducks but for those not interested in that field what does it matter? It does when you want people to start breeding just for colour. To retain the colour as it is so infrequent, most of the breedings would be sibling/sibling, father/daughter, mother/son. In the hands of inexperienced "breeders" out to make a buck how will this not produce inferior, unhealthy dogs that will look nothing like Tollers? It is NOT the same as GSDs, they have other colours allowed as well as black/tan. Tollers which were bred for its colour along with its retrieving skills does not! Well seeing as buffs end up in pet homes, then it doesn't matter to the owners BUT to want breeders to start producing this colour for the pet market only and nothing else because you can't better the breed by breeding DQ colours is nothing more than being an unethical BYB.
  8. Excellent point. My terriers will never do what they were intended for but I would hate to think someone might be out there wanting a colour not in the standard just because it's 'rare' to have one with pink and green spots and costs a lot more for the fashion conscious who will pay extra for a 'rare' colour. I'll stick with what the standard dictates The standards are all there for a reason. Was Moselle ever a registered breeder? Geez....I seriously hope not......or if they are, that they are in a breed where ALL colours are acceptable :D

  10. Who really cares? They are not discriminating or naming anyone. If they are real about their intentions, good on them for asking. If they are trolling, then they are doing a bad job because it's a really tame attempt. I don't see how they are trolling when they asked what the letters on the back of alot of GSD's mean, I for one learnt something from this thread as I had no idea what any of them meant.
  11. You are kidding right? So you want people to breed yet another breed with no intended purpose (therefore a money making designer dog) other than it's coat colour? How is that any different to what you are accusing us of now doing? The people who own the breed know why the breed is it's colour and are attracted to that, not the other extremely rare colours. Ours is a breed that is used as its original purpose.
  12. So we toss out the coat type, the mouth shape, the temperament and any other feature important to duck hunting because its illegal in some States? Get real Moselle. If you don't care about original function why bother with breeds at all. Or is that the point you're trying to make? NO WAY...me said nothing about tossing out mouth shape, temperament or other important feature...just coat colour and only because in my case I don't give two flying fruits about the hunting part of things. I own a border collie and a golden retriever, I obtained them because I love the breed....I never had intentions to use my border collie to herd sheep or my GR to chase after shot ducks! AND you know what? I really don't think they miss not having done any of that. Their tail never ceases to wag. What if that important feature is it's coat colour? Does anyone else think it's slightly ironic that you are against duck hunting and yet own a Golden whos primary function was as a retriever of dead ducks?
  13. Not in my breed, allowing buffs or even the tricolours to be shown has never been brought into dicussion. The reddy orange coat colour of Tollers makes the breed and is essential to it's job. I would like to hope that if a buff ever stood foot in a show ring it would immediately be refused and asked to leave.......though they would never get that close anyway as no breeder would ever sell one on the MR. You are entitled to hold onto that opinion but could it be that perhaps you got so used to seeing reddy orange tollers that any other colour doesn't seem "real" or should I say perhaps does not appear to be purebred even though you know they are ??? Perhaps it is a case of being set in one's ways and becoming accustomed to a particular look. Are you saying that perhaps a buff is not able to hold its own in doing what is expected of it? If you knew anything at all about the breed standards you are talking about, you would know that Tollers were originally bred to resemble foxes as that is the colour that ducks are most attracted to when be lured in closer to shore. So no, the buff colour can not perform its original function. Thanks for explaining that, TO. I suppose that if you are into duck hunting then it is understandable that you are adamant in tollers retaining that colour. Me thinks duck hunting is a NO NO so therefore buff Tollers would be more than acceptable. Don't quite get what you mean in saying that ducks are attracted to foxes and can be lured closer to shore? I am not into duck hunting, not enough time in the world, but I am into retaining the breeds hallmark features and its history. Given that majority of Toller owners over in the USA and Canada still hunting with their Tollers, then colour is still important. Basically, foxes will play around by the shore by frolicking and jumping in and out of hiding. A ducks natural curiosity takes over and comes closer and closer to the fox which eventually is close enough to grab one, there has been speculation as why they do it, but it came clear that they were attracted to reddy orange dog with white flashing feet/tail tip/face markings. There have been reports of hunters with Tollers having ducks get out of the water and basically follow the dog around. The only other breed with a similar function, the Kooikerhondji is also red and white. Coincidence? That the two breeds of dogs with similar functions are the same colours just slightly different markings?

  16. I'll keep an eye out for tollers. Ok cool, I will look for a Cocker. I will have the boy in the avatar and probably the puppy as well, going to get her used to it all.
  17. Good job!! We have our first trial in years next weekend at Warragul so fingers crossed we go as smooth and as well as you, though I bet my bottom dollar he is going to ignore his DW contact like he did today in training
  18. Yeah it's very creepy how they can do that......something about being able to crawl through tight rock spaces to get to the birds....still creepy
  19. I really like Kooikerhondji's and Tamskans. Kooikers are recognised by the Dutch KC, UKC, ARBA and is in the AKC Foundation Stock Service program so may one day be recognised in the AKC. Tamaskans are not recognised anywhere but have their own register and many clubs all over the world. Any one know if there are any in Oz yet? According to the very knowledgable Wiki there are meant to be some here :p
  20. Tollers come in buff and brown tri colour as well, some even have black tipped fur. Both the tri's were from the same litter, one of the other pups had black tipped fur as a pup which went away when he got his adult coat, and there were clear reds in there as well. All 3 variations are a DQ due to that Tollers need to be a reddy orange colour to do what they were bred for, can't remember who posted but Tollers need not have a white tail tip. It is desirable but our standard states that a dog of otherwise high quality should not be penalised for lack of white and a Toller with no white at all is fairly uncommon as it is what sets the breed apart IMO, though two dogs of equal standing being judged, the one with the white would win . The breed needs dogs that have minimal white otherwise the dogs with alot of white can't be bred as too breed two high white dogs together you would end up with Tollers with BC markings. Similar concept with what Boxer breeders face, alot of white is flashy but can be annoying when the dog who would suit yours best is also very flashy :p ETA: Excuse the little black Lab puppy
  21. Not a full list even though I was watching :D Baby - Chessie Minor - Puppy - Junior - Inter - Aus Bred - Clumber Open - Gordon BIG - Gordon RUIG - Curly Coat (also an Open Dog) Wow really no help! Sorry, I was only really paying attention to either my own classes and when the rarer breeds went up Go Lincoln's little brother Thought it might have been, he was such a nice little pup and there were so many baby puppies, it was an amazing win! Very nice people too

  23. Most events wouldn't take place if they were flooded out, it would be the assumption to make if they are only new to showing, but dog people are nuts
