Reading Huski's thread in Training the sound like a LOT of work - great for an active, sporting home. Are you interested in doing dog sports? Depends on the dog really and how you raise them. Too be honest, when I was researching them I found everyone said this alot but apart from my first one where we struggled a bit (his parents though were very busy pretty full on dogs though) the others have been pretty easy I have three Tollers here and they would all love your lifestyle. In particular my youngest boy, he is a gorgeous dog both mentally and physically . Very calm and relaxed at home but has boundless energy if required. He is also extremely biddable and loves nothing more than spending the day with me, he is definately a one person dog! His daughter is a busy little girl but she is learning to be like her dad around the home. She actually came from SA, so if you dabble in agility you may know her mum and breeder. They are great pets for active people.

Nova gets really freaked out by them, so he was in his crate with a cover over it, in my room. I had my TV up loud but we had idiots across the road let some off so it didn't matter, he still stressed himself out majorly He used to be so good as well, just ignored them but has become more of more stressed as the years have gone. Darcy reacts because Nova reacts and barked occasionally, but was excited by it rather than scared. Jovi was trying to sleep through it, but kept being woken up, so was telling the two others off as well as the fireworks.....bossy little bitch she is! Might invest in one of those Thundershirts for Nova next year and see if it makes a difference.

I've given all my three samples and pleased to say all ate it without any problems. Once their current food dwindles a bit more I will be starting them on BH

Feel sorry for the "poor judge" who wringed a puppies neck? Hardly! Who cares what everyone else is doing? If it's cruel, mentally and physically harms a dog for a show then it's a practice that no one should be conforming too. This judge (and every other judge who mishandles dogs) deserves what comes of this, and I for one hope she is removed off her licence.

I use Plush Puppy and somewhat follow the article written for the breed on their site. For their white markings I use a whitening shampoo.

OK Cool, we have been working on those things as well but mainly for agility, so that's good! Will be interested in hearing what you learn -
I Am Nasty To My Puppy
Sayreovi replied to Agility Dogs's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I get it sometimes as well. There are times when she is allowed to socialise and act like a puppy and there are times when she is not, if I am training her, it's one of the times when she is not! I've even got told my puppy was very shy by a fellow competitor because she was sitting on my lap quietly and just watching all the dogs around her acting, what probably looked nuts too her (we were at an agility trial) and didn't fall over herself to get pats from a stranger. Reserved around strangers does not equal shyness, and it is actually in our breeds standard! I was completely shocked because everyone else who commented on her behaviour called her a well behaved puppy. -
Retrieving & Field Training Talk

Same problem here, I spent all Darcys younger years encouraging him too tug and he has a high prey drive, he does ignore birds though even if they are right next too him but if it was anything else he would be after it! We went to a training day awhile back and Darcy did a marked retrieve well the first time, raced out there and raced back. After that he ran straight past the dummy and into a group of dogs/owners 50 metres down the track, I don't think there will be that situation at a trial or test but getting him refocussed after the first retrieve will be the main concern I think, he can be pretty dippy at times I have a 4 month old Toller pup as well (Darcys daughter), what do people recommend I should start with her? She has more focus and intent that her dad, and will retrieve anything, but not really sure what to start her on.....but she is another who hasn't met any dead game before. -
Retrieving Ability Tests For Gundogs
Sayreovi replied to twoblackdogs's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
It was posted to the OzObedience list a little while ago: Should you be interested, or know of someone who might like to find out more about RATG and Retrieving come along to KCC Park on 12th December '10 for " Big Day Out for Dogs". Melway 128 J12 There will be expert tuition for you & your dog on Retrieving, plus 'fun' displays of RATG and Retrieving demonstrations by experienced Gundogs. So perhaps it's not a "training day" as such.... but it's a step in the right direction OK Thanks for that! Not sure if I can make it, but will try, so may see some of you there -

This sounds like something that I would like too do! I don't have enough skill/time too train to proper competing level, so this is a good alternative as the dogs I want to trial with have the necessary temperaments to do it well! You sound like me RS! Capable dogs, not so capable owners FHRP - Do you have any more details of the training day in Victoria? -
Could I pick up a sample at Dogs Big Day Out?
-
That's why Darcy might not go well on it, he doesn't really eat alot so may not work but we will give it a go, good too hear though No worries, I am hoping he goes well on it too, will be a much cheaper alternative!
-
Might try this food for mine when we run out soon. I don't think the protein and fat levels will be high enough for my really active dog (he has been on Advance Active for years) but will give it a try, at the very least my older "stays fat on the smell of food" boy will go well and so will the puppy
-
I've only just starting using Plush Puppy, for both general and show washes. Their coat is really nice after just using the shampoo for normal washes, but after doing a show wash and using all the recommended products I will never use anything else for a show wash again!

I have three medium sized dogs. Food: They are currently on a super premium, all the same brand but unfortunately different types....one is one active, one on adult and the little one on puppy. Once the puppy is older, I will be going back to a raw diet as it will be more cost effective as at the moment I buy the 18-20kg bags every 2 or so months. Bedding: Each has their own mat outside the bedroom and a "proper" bed in my bedroom. Vet Bills: I am counting my lucky stars but mine are very rarely sick, the only real time they see a vet is if they are injured. However all three are also insured in case of any big emergencies! I only worm my dogs, they have never had an issue with fleas and I don't vaccinate yearly. Walking: All three together, the two older ones walk well but the puppy is still learning
-
Found that as well, on their own people think they are nice looking crosses, two or more together and the majority of people conclude that they are a breed
-
We are always stopped as well, no matter where we are! Especially when I have all three together. Now that there is a puppy as well who is a mini version of her dad, we don't get anywhere fast Very few people know what they are, so I don't mind talking to them about the breed and dogs in general. Usually while their kids are patting my very well behaved boys and smoochy baby girl, we've changed a few peoples perceptions.
-
We aren't serious enough contenders too face most of these problems, but the one that really annoys me is having too wait for another group to finish judging the group specials because one competitor was in there.....every other breed was ready to go in and waiting but apparantly had to wait for this person Ohh and having the exhibitors in the breed behind you forget you are there......uhh hello we are standing right here, next to the entrance! Then they give you evil looks because they have to get out of the ring and actually wait for us. Happens to us a fair bit for both breed and group judging.
-
Where do the racehorses go though? They are still in the same facility as the dog and cats? If they are no way would they ban importing animals, horse racing has massive money behind it......

2010 Training/title/goals Wish List

OT - Nicole... I just love Bonds show name, very clever and cute -
My yard is littered with Cuz's with no feet or little horns (I only buy the bad cuz ) They are all still whole and squeaking, but they tend to disappear for awhile so I buy a new one and then they all reappear.....weird little things they are! Our local produce store has them for under $10, cheapest I have found, maybe try your local stockfeeds that have pet supplies?

Didn't do any of these either especially the bolded part! ;) Both are capable but I just forget to enter trials. So our only agility/jumping trial we didn't do well but there is always next year!! Nearly got his show title, 12 points off......I had entered enough shows to get those last points (joys of being the only entry in the breed but didn't go!) -
2010 Supercoat Australian Flyball Championships

;) Mmm surely even I can organise myself enough to get it together in that time.......gotta actually go to a training session first :D Haven't been since April.... how do you survive?! I have withdrawals after missing a week! I can't wait for Sydney Royal! It's gonna be sooooo much fun! ;) I used to be the same when I was really into it! I retired one dog from the sport, and he loved it and the other isn't a mad flyballer, so didn't have any desire to do it myself once Nova retired! I really want to retrain Darcy a little and get his speed down as he does 4.8/9s average without any real drive BUT early 2012 I will have his daughter up and running and she is going to be very very quick Has her fathers speed but mothers drive She will be my little nutty red pocket rocket! So will be back into then I reckon, having two competing dogs again! -
