  1. You won't have any luck changing vets. Maybe see if you can pay the school at a later date as suggested, loan of someone in the family and once back on your feet either get a credit card, give the vets a small amount every week for emergencies or start your own dog only saving account. I have a credit card, pet insurance and a internet savings account though that's not just for the dogs I very rarely go to the vets as I have very healthy dogs so I could never rely on my "going there all the time" relationship with them.
  2. I've waited a couple of years between mine, the longest has been the recent pup, there is a 6 year difference as opposed to the 2 year between my oldest two. I was moving around a fair bit and had alot going on so even though I wanted a pup it's wasnt the best time. I was satisfied with where the oldest two were at, so adding a pup was smooth and very easy.
  3. I use Happy Paws treats for everyday use, best treats, all my dogs go nuts for them even my picky boy. I don't usually like buying things like this over the net, but they were at this Dogs Day Out and I had my puppy Jovi with me and she adored them so much that I bought half a kilo of them Website it: http://www.happypawstreats.com.au I do vary treats a fair bit though and depending on what they are doing, for example when competing in Flyball I used cooked dim sims ripped up. It was the only time they got them, and I figure the amount of energy they burn through doing that in a day counter balances everything and it's a massive reward for them
  4. That's only part of it though, does the pup bring it back? Run away with it and refuse to give it back? I would want a puppy that brings it back readily (though I have retrievers so may be a different reaction in a toy breed) but generally would want a pup that wants to be with me, bounces back from loud noises and is willing to give anything a go as well as the usual sound body/mind stuff. My "to do" list is similar and I am currently training my puppy these things, as well as driving back to me with a retrieved ball for either a tug or treat and getting her used to me holding her in a starting position and getting her focussed and wanting to drive forward for the ball when I say go, as in Ready, Set Go! I also want them to not only be happy in a crate but quiet as well.
  5. I buy my shoes from Rivers, helps that I work there and can grab the style and size I want before they go out! I never knew what Sketchers were, they look extremely similar to some styles of Rivers shoes.
  6. I don't think people forget that, but it's a bit rude for the public to think it's their right to walk through your set up area or to randomly grab at your dog while you are obviously waiting to go in the ring......I will go for a breed stand and educate about my breed that way but won't be showing there again.
  7. same here ... even the Ch shows were a "flop" entry wise .... like many others I wouldn't go to Caulfield again either. Not surprised, it's too small a ground for a champ show. Add in the public wandering through your stuff and ground condition, it's a fairly crappy day out IMO.
  8. :D Sorry, what soft drinks? It's along the same wall as the toilets and phone. I paid how you normally would if you went by yourself. Doesn't really matter now anyhow, they have my money for the day.
  9. I moved into my first rental with 2 dogs, we had no references or anything, just happened to be a severe lack of renters in the area so got to pick. It really depends on how much you can afford as well, I know there are alot of houses in my town that are pet friendly for around $250-$300 a week. Really cheap compared to Sydney prices but still hard on a single income. Do up a resume for your dog including any references for the dog, a cute photo and anything that puts your dog in a good light.
  10. I have three at the moment, the most I would have is about 6 I reckon. My family thinks I have enough dogs already, but 3 is easy especially when they get on well and 2 are older and mature (well sorta mature)
  11. Some of my training areas are, others aren't. I've got dogs that don't have 100% perfect recalls but don't run away, I do walk around the area I am in though to reduce them wanting to go sniff and pee everywhere else and it serves as a warmup as well. I attempt to make myself the best thing there and use very high value treats as I have food orientated dogs.....helps that they are a trainable breed that wants to stick around though
  12. We can't all have people who will drop their plans to look after a bitch in season for us, and how can you know that your bitch is safe in boarding kennels, just ridiculous. There is absolutely nothing wrong with showing a bitch in season. It's allowed in the rules so all the show dogs have to cope, poor things ! For the handler it's just something you have to deal with not "bitch" about There is absolutely no way I would trust a pet sitter or boarding kennel with my in season bitch! I agree, I would never leave an in season bitch with some stranger! I can't believe people are even suggesting it as well......
  13. No probs, I'm sure they'll find it. I didn't even know there was a silver box though, lol? Sorry for not making it clear who was collecting, we were a little disorganised this month, but for the record, usually Lappiemum (& her partner) or myself collect throughout the morning and lunch break, and then take the money up to the office after lunch. Ahh OK, I did write on the envelope if was for the DOL meet so should be good Will have to remember for next time. The silver box is inside with the pool, along the wall across from the tea and coffee area. It's where you put the money when you go by yourself
  14. He did well regardless, and looks to have potential. Bundy seems to take the few set backs well enough and keep going with enthusiasm, I've noticed some Viszlas are extremely soft in temperament and weavers falling on them would have been the end..... Definately get a snub lead if you are worried about him, I train with no collars on either but have used a snub lead in the past and they are very useful
  15. It was my first time at a group meet there, so I thought we just put the money in the silver box like you usually would? So my $15 is in there, no one said otherwise ;)
  16. I got my oldest dog desexed when he was 3.5 years, the only negative is he got a much plusher thicker coat that is harder too groom but apart from that I am so glad I did it, he drove me insane when he was a teenager.
  17. Great photos, and it was a great day, will have to come more often :D Loved Albert, he was just so unintentionally funny and just ploughed through everything he did!
  18. Maybe it's a good thing I am not entered in Berwick, otherwise that little guy would be coming home with me ;) :D
  19. Aww lucky, I love Papillons ;) I didn't know there was a (reg) Pap breeder in town!
  20. Ahh that's right, around Bairnsdale? If you are ever up this way give me a buzz, the next show I am at is the 6/3 you could handle one of mine.......there is usually no competition so no stress about not doing it right
  21. How far from KCC Park are you? Most shows in Victoria are there is all. Only thing you could do is sit with some Doler showies and let it known that you are able to handle dogs, I for one am usually the only of my breed there and with 2-3 dogs a runoff for challenge is a given and requiring another handler is kinda necessary
