Which Breed Makes The Cutest Puppies?
Sayreovi replied to Henrietta's topic in General Dog Discussion
Toller puppies are the cutest -
1. Do you think it is a fun thing for the pet or a serious title for a good specimen of the breed? A bit of both, it's the same for me as showing in "regular" classes. 2. Do you think the dog should be in peak condition or just an oldie who you think likes to show? If they are going to be show dogs then they must be presented as show dogs, well groomed, fit and healthy. 3. Will you be upset if you come up against Champions or Grand Champions? No, my dog is a Champion so would be a bit hypocritical. I want to continue to show as him as I enter my other two and he comes along anyway. It's why I would rather enter away shows that offer the class rather then closer ones that don't, he loves being shown and is a good example of the breed.

I do this as well when I take more than one dog out by myself. I love dogs but I love mine more and will protect them by any means necessary

Huski - Did you end up settling for a WL Springer? If so welcome (nearly ) to the Gundog world Love all the puppies I met a baby (12 weeks) Toller puppy on the weekend and am starting to get puppy clucky again Gotta stay strong and hold out until my current puppy (8 months) is old enough to have her own litter....I am sure then I won't want a puppy after that for awhile :p Doesn't help that Jovi is such a perfect and an extremely easy puppy, she has me in rose coloured glasses!!

I Am Never Walking My Dogs In This Neighbourhood Again.
Sayreovi replied to Jimmay's topic in General Dog Discussion
well what are you saying??? Maybe it was a general musing, as 2 Staffords off lead hell bent on killing an on lead SWF would have done some damage? Maybe that's what Juice meant? Glad everything turned out OK for all involved and hopefully next time the owner may take further precautions when having dogs willing to attack another dog unrestrained in a car with windows down. -
I know it's not immediate, but getting it done a month ago there should be some sort of change as it was only the 6 month injection. Hopefully next season he will be completely desexed, I wanted to get him collected and stored and then desexed but couldn't afford the $500-$600 collection fee that week unfortunately.

That's what I thought but maybe others are seeing something different

I don't think we should gloss over the fact that he does use physical violence, there was a video going around recently (briefly) of all the times he has kicked a dog in the show. I think this is something we should definitely not emulate. Of course, his more zealous fans will come in here and tell me that "it's only a tap", but no matter how gentle it is, the dog's responses tell the story. Ohh the ones where he kicks around the back of him and gets the dog on it's arse? I've only noticed him doing those when the dog is so focused on something else and wants to do an immediate correction without the dog knowing where it's coming from or are you talking about something else? I was talking about the hand taps he does.....neither of those isn't physical violence IMO, one of my dogs loves to thumped in the side and on the bum as a reward........pretty sure I am hitting him harder than Cesar does.

I am curious, has anyone (or know anyone) who has had this injection fail? I got my male done a month a go and there has been no change in his demeanour and his testical size is still the same. I know the testical size isn't always an indication but I was expecting some sort of shrinkage. I currently have Jovi who is in season and just hit her 10th day, and I was expecting some interest as Darcy is 6 years old and has been around bitches in season before, but I wasn't expecting a full blown "entire" male response. He knows exactly what is happening and what he is meant to do, he didn't eat this morning and is whinging and crying a fair bit. He has never been mated before but has had a teaser bitch when he was being collected for an AI. I also have a desexed male here who is running with her (other boy is completely seperated now) and he was done at 3 years of age, again he had been around bitches in season but he is seriously ignoring her completely, I haven't even seen him sniff her back end once.....even when I was spying on them outside Jovi was flirting with Darcy and would happily swing her bum in his face but ignored Nova (desexed). A bit of a ramble I guess, but I was curious to know if someone has ever heard of it failing?

Mmmm I use reward based training for my dogs but I am not small minded enough to know that it would work for all dogs. When does Cesar use physical violence? When he taps the dog? I don't consider myself on a "huge personal powertrip" because I admire the changes he makes in these previously uncontrollable dogs. He shows the owners how to actually control their dog.....and lets be honest some of those dogs were previously so dangerous that the green dream seemed like an inevitability.

Arghhhhhhhhh ! Dogs Vic Website :(
Sayreovi replied to Bisart Dobes's topic in General Dog Discussion
Cost of reprint is $33.80 Same day service only includes transfers, litter registrations and exports. I had to get one of my dogs reg certificate reissued and it took about 1-2 weeks. -

Not sure about other breeds, but in Tollers there is definately a shortage of puppies vs puppy buyers. So if you want a puppy you have to show why you are better than the other 20 people waiting as well. Plus if I am spending all this money raising and putting my heart and soul into a litter there is no way they are going to people who just expect to get a puppy because they enquired and not put in any effort as to why I should sell them one of my precious puppies. It goes both ways, I will be doing everything that is required of me as an ethical reptuable breeder and am happy to show anyone that but I want buyers to prove why I should consider them. JMO of course ETA: Soul not sole

That is all very well until a girl comes into season....changes the chemistry. Should change that last sentence to "because my girl is in season".
-
I think it depends on the breed as well, I know most breeders in my breed have all their dogs running together regardless of gender and entireness. I plan on doing the same, I couldn't handle doing musical dogs everyday so I didn't get a breed that is pushy or can be dog aggressive. I am currently doing musical dogs because my girl is entire and have an "entire" male as well but there is no way I could do it for the rest of their lives.
-
I've seen general public dogs there over the years. So I guess they are allowed, though it can be very crowded and noisy so if your pup isn't very confident I wouldn't be taking him/her IMO.
-
Maybe not on dog stuff, but there will be plenty of stalls, showbags and rides you can spend money on
-
Probably not as there is a show at KCC Park the same day, so they will probably be there.....there isn't really alot of room at the Pakky show.

http://www.ozentries.com.au/shows.php Just click on the enter link next to the Bulla shows and fill in details Oops I was a little slow there

I've put down an extra "dog" blanket where she usually sleeps but like most nights she ends up sleeping curled up against my stomach and not actually on the blanket. I have a fairly dark red doona so might just change my current one to that one as she will probably end up being a pain and pulling the undies off if she had them on her at night.
-
Thanks for the replies. She is keeping herself clean fairly well, it's mainly for when she sleeps at night as she is usually on my bed So might give the underwear and pads idea a go My boy had the injection just under a month ago, but his testicals haven't shrunk much if any. Though from what I've read it may or may not shrink them. I've let them all go back together and if he shows any hightened interest in a few days I will just seperate them again.
-
Cool, good idea about the undies, might try that till I get a proper pair tomorrow. She is currently with my desexed male only as he was done about 5 years ago and was never mated either, plus even at shows he doesn't really notice bitches in season. I've seperated my suprelorin boy for now when I am not supervising but he isn't showing any real interest when together, will see what others say

Do You Refer To Yourself As You Dogs "mum Or Dad"?
Sayreovi replied to shells's topic in General Dog Discussion
I don't usually but friends always refer to them as my "kids" -
So my little baby girl just started her first season last night Kind of really unexpected, her coming in this early as she is only 7.5 months, she just seems too young.....so I am slightly thrown out of whack Just a few questions as it's my first time having a bitch and one in season at that!! Do you allow her around desexed males? What about ones with a suprelorin injection? She is keeping herself pretty clean but is there something she can wear around the house so the blood doesn't drip? Non-doggy friends suggested cloth nappies and that will do I guess in a pinch but is there something for this? Thanks I am sure I will have more questions later on, if I can't find them in my breeding books

Yay for the neuters! Hopefully we will start to see more classes being offered in the future in Victoria if entries are good
