  1. I see you have been asking obedience rule questions too - good luck and well done it's nice when training goes well and you all enjoy training :D Thanks Getting there eventually, only took till my 3rd dog! The trialling part scares me a little and I get very nervous and as Darcy (and Jovi will probably be the same) is so sensitive to my mood, we just end up a nervous wreck I will have to have someone to video us so we can get feedback on where we need to improve
  2. I had a training session this afternoon at the local oval and am very happy with Jovi and Darcy! Kinda embarassing but I hadn't trained Darcy properly in ages because I was focusing on training Jovi :D He went so well, so focused and willing.....took me awhile to remember all his commands/hand movements but he adapted well to me fumbling. I had forgotten how great and beautiful he works. Jovi was excellent as well given I rarely train her outdoors (usually inside) but it's all coming together and she was doing a long heeling pattern with next to no encouragement. Shouldn't be surprised with Jovi as she is Darcys daughter in so many other ways, she just has more drive and intensity! Now to look into an upcoming obedience trial to actually enter!
  3. I plan on entering that to see how we go, so I am glad they allow dummies!
  4. Ohh it was an interstate one, there is a big Toller meet happening at a show later in the year and the show is holding a RAT as well but "no dummies" so just double checking it meant birds only.
  5. Majority of people would send the male not the bitch Mmm I wonder when I posted and asked silly questions about bitches in season that I was looked at as being stupid or a future BYB? I researched a little but some questions I couldn't find answers for and asked all the experienced breeders on DOL instead
  6. Congrats!! Did the other team run cleanly? Whenever I started and got a really good start time the other team would always false start......sometimes I suspect on purpose In flyball there is a starting timer that beeps 3 times (like Ready, Set, Go) that tells you the timer is about to start. The starting dog/handlers goal is too get as close as possible to 0.000 which means the dog hit the starting line exactly when the timer started (on Go). It's extremely hard too get 0.000 because it's down to .000 of a second, it takes alot of practice of starting positions and knowledge of how your dog is running at that very moment. Sorry not a good explanation but basically TerraNik had the 100% perfect starting time.
  7. I agree with you in this GayleK, we went through the exact same situation not that long ago including having the behaviour of the entire male before and during I ended up sending him away for a few days during the height of her season as he worked himself into a frenzy and I didn't want an accidental litter of father/daughter pups! My neutered boy, who was desexed at 3 years and had previously been around bitches in season, stayed with her the entire season and showed no inclination what so ever. She would flag in front of him, he just kept walking past ignoring her........this was a male who when entire apparantly had a high sex drive
  8. That's excellent The lady was great about everything I stayed there when the Albury shows were on and there were a few other dog people there too, the good thing is the rooms are seperate because of the carport so if your dog barks next door can't hear it well. Ohh and there is a large park right across the road
  9. I stayed at the Coach House Motel last year and was allowed to have 2 medium sized dogs in the room as well It's slightly out of Albury and is actually in Lavington. The rooms are basic but clean and I will stay there again if going to Albury with dogs Phone is (02) 6025 1233
  10. I ordered 6 My reasoning is I (sorta) have 3 dogs to show and I needed a lead for obedience as well so yeah....I will stick by that
  11. What about asking him to place the dummy in your hand when you are kneeling when returning from a retrieve? When about is he dropping it?
  12. When a RAT is advertised as no dummies used, I am assuming they are using birds instead?
  13. I thought the behaviour towards the Beagle bordered on predatory at times (although they clearly didn't mean business) and the behaviour towards the person with the stick was anything but friendly. As the owner of the pitbulls the question of why the dogs were shot is pretty obvious - they weren't in your yard and were harassing a dog in someone elses. All the indignation at the shooting doesn't change the fact that the dogs should never have been there. Blame the owner if you want to blame anyone. I agree. If I saw those two dogs behaving that way towards one of mine (and they were reacting the same way as the Beagle) and they wouldn't let me approach by behaving aggressively, I would want to the police to do what ever is necessary to protect my dogs. I love dogs, but I love my dogs MORE. I feel sorry for those dogs for having a crappy owner but no other dogs should not suffer as a result, sure the cop might have been a little hasty in shooting but who knows how many times these dogs have gotten out and harassed another dog or person. The fact is the dog rushed at the police officer and he dealt with it.
  14. I will hold you to that! Though it will be a few years yet Do you have a picture of him, he sounds beautiful Do you think one day the ANKC may actually add sable to the standard? I :p Amber, she made me fall back in love with sable BC's.
  15. I still would. You have to return to the dog behind them after stays, SFE, COP. But like with the finish, I'd start teaching the return as a separate exercise to anything. I get what you mean, but what I meant was is it necessary for me to train her to stay while I walk around her when she has recalled like they do in obedience classes? She knows to stay while I walk around for stays, sfe and cop but if it's not a requirement for me to walk around her after she has recalled then I am not going to add something that is unnecessary. I did try it once but she was clearly confused and wondering where I was going so got up to follow me as I am apparantly not meant to move when she comes to me regardless of what I tell her Bloody Tollers and their ideas of what is wanted :p
  16. Same here, but I unfortunately have a tendacy towards the darker reds (like my Tollers) and sables *runs and hides* Nothing wrong with having a preference for a dark red or a sable if you are prepared to wait as long as it takes to get a good one from the right breeder and don't pay an inflated price for it. Several of us with Borders would one day love to have and outstanding show tri but they are very hard to come by. I have bred tri but not one quite good enough to keep in my yard yet. I would be waiting a long time as ideally I would like a sable if/when I get a BC and I prefer show type BC's as well......I think the darker red BC's will just blend in with my guys and cause further confusion when I say "No those aren't BC's but that one there is!"
  17. Thats the old rules for CCD which no longer apply. Ahh makes sense, thought I read it somewhere! Do you bother training it then? Or can I just say I don't want to confuse her when they try to make me do it at training?
  18. At any level is the handler required to go around the dog after the dog has recalled? I checked the rules but I thought it was in there I just can't find it. Reason is at training I got told I had to train her to wait while I go around, personally I don't see the need when she can go to the heel position and I don't want to confuse her, unless it's actually a requirement in trials.
  19. Same here, but I unfortunately have a tendacy towards the darker reds (like my Tollers) and sables *runs and hides* ;)
  20. Dogs are just as expensive, sometimes more depending on the breed or mix, as ones in the pet shops though. What breed did you recently get? That argument just doesn't fly that pet shops are cheaper than registered breeders anymore IMO, a friend impulsed bought a little pom mix something for $1500 and were impressed with a 3 day health gurantee until I told them I paid significally less for a rare purebred with lifetime gurantees and support.
  21. Have to laugh though S'n'T!! Gotta love when they put their own spin on things.....most of the time
  22. Is there any reason behind this? I plan on giving CCD a crack in a couple of months, just fine tuning a few smaller points like drop position before I do, so interesting to learn about what the CCD judges are currently doing. Yep the wording changed to read "at least twelve (12) metres away". So some are doing really long distances. Ahh OK Thanks, I will make sure to reread the rules! Thanks for that Wuffles, will definately need to work on her stands if some judges are leaning right over the dog, shouldn't be a problem once she knows what I want and if I can get her to do a SFE for myself and my sister (who she adores) then I am sure we will have no problem! Bugger Lottie! Don't blame her for not wanting to work in the rain, I refuse to as well
