  1. I know adult dogs do, my other two Tollers are easily able to handle a 3 inch bumper but they are both adults and males. The one I've entered is a little 10 month old bitch, I am just pointing out there is a bit of a error in the way the rules are set out for the younger dogs of smaller breeds and considering the rules state they are allowed to compete from 6 months of age I wouldn't be the only one in this boat Apart from shipping in from overseas, is there any where in Australia where you can aquire 'legal' bumpers? If they want more people to compete there needs to be easier access to the proper allowed equipement IMO Even on the link RS posted there are only 3inch and 2inch width bumpers Is there even such a thing as 2.5inch bumpers?
  2. I don't have any other backups Might have to try adding socks or something over it to bring the size up, and if they have a problem just get them to DQ me but still let me run her I didn't think that the rules would allow some bumpers and not others seeing as smaller dogs and breeds do want to compete not just the heaps bigger Labs, Goldens and utility breeds. Will this be amended do you know?
  3. Genuine question, does it honestly matter where it is made and by whom? Does where it's made make you want to feed your dog a certain brand more or less? Personally I've fed Advance for years and still have no idea where it's made, by who and whether it includes certain oils or not. The bottom line was my dog actually ate it and looked good on it......that's all I care about but that's JMO
  4. I agree! Honestly can't believe some of the crap going on in this thread and obviously behind the scenes as well, it is very disappointing to read
  5. I think that's the smallest entry I've seen at KCC for the Gundog group ever!
  6. Sorry you didn't know about this TO. It was "advertised" on OzObedience as it is a trialling seminar, next time we have her here there will be a post on DOL Ohh OK thanks, I really need to join the obedience, agility and show lists I miss out on way to many seminars
  7. I've been wondering about the rules for the RATG, in regards to bumpers why is the minimum circumference 20cm and length 25cm when the common small sized bumpers are about 18cm circumference and 20cm in length? I've bought several 2inch avery bumpers intending to use those in the upcoming RAT in Victoria and measured them to find out they are too small, I've got her to try and pick up a 3inch but it is just way too big for her and she just kept picking it up by the rope, in hindsight I should have measured them but naively thought that they would able to be used. She is only 10 months and quite a small Toller, should I ring and ask if I could just use my 2inch bumpers? Or just turn up and not say anything?
  8. My crates aren't set up at home as I only use them out and about, though if we are staying elsewhere I don't take their beds as they happily sleep in their crates. They go willingly in if told to, but never really seek it out and that suits me, as long as they will go in there willingly and will sit/lay quietly I consider them crate trained
  9. I've recently bought a trolley (bargain buy for $80, pretty chuffed :D) so I can use it the same way as WhiskedAway, though sometimes I show three dogs of the same breed and it's handier having a movable crate ringside rather than setting up a crate for the whole 5 minutes we are in the ring
  10. Yeah true, but I would have to take my guys anyway as I would have to stay up there, so don't think they would appreciate 3 dogs for an auditor's spot
  11. One of mine is a bit of a grott so gets washed every 2 weeks and wiped down with a cloth every now and again, the other two keep themselves very clean and I only usually bath them when they really need it or before a show. Though sometimes because they have white markings I like them to shine so they get a bath then when the feeling comes over me.
  12. Bugger, where do people find out about all these seminars before they are posted on here? (usually after they have sold out ) I would have liked to have gone for this but didn't know and it's probably too late now unfortunately
  13. Yep, I took the registration in with the desexing certificate and they just signed something saying they sighted the certificate and I received the new reg papers a couple of weeks later. Didn't take long especially considering I got a title added at the same time!
  14. I bought my first bag today and looking forward to feeding it tomorrow. Personally I don't particulary care who makes the food and the ins and outs, I want an excellent quality product that is hopefully cheaper than the Advance I already feed, so will go wherever and buy from whomever if that's what it takes.
  15. I got my weekends confused as well, thought it was this weekend and was about to ask the same thing!!
  16. Learn new things every day! I knew they loosened up but not that much so didn't think about it too much I've never had a bitch before so will be taking that into account as those are the two sports she will be doing.
  17. This is exactly how I felt for my first two, Jovi was different due to circumstances surrounding her. With Nova it was within a week as he was a very busy puppy and also for most of his teenage life it was difficult not to get annoyed as he was a pain in the arse! He was too full on for a novice owner, though I never once thought about giving him up......I was just as stubborn as him and gradually we got there and now he is a sweet cuddly old man :D Darcy has been the only one I met before I picked up, I fell in love straight away, he was a beautiful well behaved perfect puppy who was happy just being near me (and usually me alone :p) I adore him as an adult, he just got better with age and he is my "baby boy" Jovi was a very special puppy and I would have balled my eyes out if we didn't connect straight away but as soon as I picked her up she chose me even though she sat on my sisters lap most of the 10 hour trip home :p I really do believe she is my heart dog, she "gets" me well and she is an intensified version of her father (Darcy)
  18. We're you at Berwick too? I was rather disappointed as I'd driven almost 1.5 hours to get to the trial only to have it called off. Ankle deep water in some spots was not nice. Well done on your sit stay That's really bad that they didn't cancel the night before, the amount of rain we had Friday/Saturday was monstrous! My backyard is still literally underwater and horrible, ridiculous they didn't cancel it Saturday as Berwicks grounds are known to being waterlogged after light rain. I headed down for a wander and there was not a soul in sight anywhere so figured it too being cancelled.....so we went to KCC for a bit of look at the Lab show and to give training on wet grass a go :p
  19. My sister's toller-x is excellent with her cats, & with my dog and cats when she comes to visit, but then again, she deliberately picked the least driven pup in the litter. Not sure how a purebred toller would be, hopefully the toller people can help with that. Tollers have a fairly high prey drive but there would be plenty of Tollers living with cats. Just depends on the dog, I wouldn't trust either of my older two with a cat as they have not had any positive interaction with cats (and yet are fine with rats as they were raised with them ;) but my 10 month old has met a few friendly cats and isn't interested in them. The warnings are mainly to keep propective owners aware that Tollers are a high drive breed Just re-read the thread, and they may shed too much for you....I wouldn't know what to liken their shed rate too though, I've always thought they shed a normal amount for a medium length coat to shed Haven, there is a fairly big dog show happening 28/29th May at Bulla, not sure what area of Melbourne you are from....but we will be there and you can meet my three if you want to meet some Tollers :D
  20. Jovi is my first bitch and she has only had one season so far, but she worked just the same during her season and she still got trained every day
  21. It will be gone tomorrow. You will feel like you are going Then you will need a Just kidding! Nope we still have it!! Though now we've lost our COP from any thing further than a meter away Suppose it doesn't matter much as long as I have one or the other on a trial day :p
  22. He is looking good, though I've always been a little partial towards him Can't believe he is 12 months already though! Where has that time gone? Still working on finding a camera person to film us when it isn't raining Will get there one day!
  23. Well I am still not a member of the club that I posted previously about waiting 2 years to be accepted.....so going on 5 years now. ;) Though they have probably lost my details some where along the line, I know it's all volunteers but I've given up going there as it would be another 5 years before I get in, I just train at my local obedience club and privately. Start getting on waiting lists now for the agility clubs otherwise you will be waiting awhile once you move down here. Sorry no help for your other questions, as I train on my own mostly.
  24. We have our dumb bell retrieve!!! Been the only thing that we were having trouble with, she just wouldn't come in close enough when holding it! Though she would sit and hold it till I took it and on recalls came in nice and close. So I didn't train with it for awhile as I could see she was getting frustrated and I guess I must have as well because I couldn't figure out how to do it. So tonight I back chained it a little and I saw the little light bulb go off! So I set her up, threw it and she returned it beautifully, nice and close :D Got a massive jackpot for that, and she went nuts so I figured will see if it was a fluke or if she really understands and she did it again! Called it quits as I didn't want to push my luck even if she was still roaring to go Will let her sleep on it and we will see how we go again tomorrow ;) Who would have thought that teaching a retriever the finer points of a retrieve would be the hardest thing I've taught her so far!?
