I have one of those, he has an extremely quick metabolism and it doesn't help that he only has two speeds. Asleep or flat out running! He has been on BH for 2 weeks now and looks great, if not a bit tubby for a sporting dog so am slowly cutting back till I get to the perfect quantity. The only dry food he could have eaten before now was Advance Active anything else and he looked like a skeleton! Shelly has plenty of energy - stored as fat. If hunger is an issue then, as previously advised, you need to bulk out the meal with veggies. I've read on here that mashed pumpkin is a very good subsitute as it is very filling but not fattening.

I will be there if I am not working and it isn't raining with Jovi

Retrieving & Field Training Talk

We had entered but it clashed with a show I had entered! We had a US judge so went showing instead I keep checking the working retriever forum for results but nothing yet, would love to know if there were passes! Mmm should have checked before I wrote the above LOL So bummed I couldn't go The English Springer Club held Victoria's first open to all breeds RATG at the weekend. As has been experienced in other states we had a large entry with 15 dogs from the various gundog breeds turning up on the day to run in the Novice class. The grounds at KCC park were very boggy and before long the dogs were up to their armpits in mud and in their element. Of the 15 starters our judge Ros Buckley handed out 8 pass cards. Thanks once again go to our judge, helpers and competitors for making it such a successful and enjoyable day. 1st Ch (T) Ch Everweis Park Xquizid CD TSD ET - Weimaraner - Mr B & Mrs L Evertsen 2nd Goldshyne Photo Finish CDX ADM ADO JDX JDO2 GD SD - Golden Retriever - Hollie Edwards 3rd Ch Goorambat The Manor CDX AD JD SD GD SPD - Golden Retriever - P & J Convery 4th FTCh Walgeers Oscar - English Springer Spaniel - RD Watt 5th Elderberry Scarlet (Imp UK) JD - English Springer Spaniel - Mr A Hill 6th Walgeers Jodie - English Springer Spaniel - Darren Smith 7th Ch Abtei Arms of Valour CDX - German Shorthaired Pointer - Mr R & Mrs K J Winters 8th Walgeers Cloe - English Springer Spaniel - Darren Smith -

What Dog Sports Do You Do?
Sayreovi replied to aussielover's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
We are a jack of all trades here, I have my foot in everything I've competed in agility, obedience, flyball as well as showing. Obedience we did years ago and didn't go well due to my nerves and similar story with agility The most successful sport we've had so far is flyball where they got to a National Champion level. As well as those I am training in retrieving and tracking though neither is up to the stage of competing at the moment I think. Next year my youngest two will get their ET as well -
I am in two minds about this, on one hand I have only ever had issues with show dogs in regards to attacks and being out of control but then I understand that some general public dogs aren't under effective control. I don't accept the disease side of arguments because any dog can bring in a disease and lets face it we have all seen sick dogs being exhibited so sick dogs are specifically reserved for the public's dogs. If we ban the public from bringing in their dogs then showies are running the risk again of being seen as elitist and snobby. In regards to the Bulla shows I walked around a few times with my puppy for socialisation, not necessarily to meet other dogs but to see all the different breeds, several times we got charged at, unable to pass because dogs on long leads were blocking our path and being aggressively barked at.....rude and dangerous behaviour regardless whether they are entered dogs or not.

I haven't read the recommended amount but that seems like alot for a dog trying to lose weight? My dogs have been on Black Hawk for about a week now, and I am really happy with it! Even my fussy boy loves it and is keeping weight on which is a massive plus, energy levels have remained the same but they have all always been busy little beavers

Hd On A Pup Who Is Only 16 Weeks Old?
Sayreovi replied to Erny's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Because they were worried about their puppy? In my situation, she was under anyway for a minor hernia fix so after being freaked out by the vet saying what he did, I elected to get them at the same time. I am glad I did as it certainly laid to rest any concerns once I had been to the specialist. I am still not 100% sure why he said to do the surgery, as he knew she was my future (hopeful) foundation bitch and sporting dog. Surely he would have made more money out of me keeping me on as a client? -
Hd On A Pup Who Is Only 16 Weeks Old?
Sayreovi replied to Erny's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
If you did a search on this, you would have come across my topic as I got recommended the same thing. Pup showing no signs of any lameness and comes from a breed which isn't usually know for HD, plus of course parents/grandparents etc all being hip scored. I definately recommend Dr. Wing Tip Wong who is an orthopedic specialist and operates down in Werribee. He found nothing wrong with her or her xrays even though my now former vet said she would have severe HD by the time she is 12 months......she is now 10 months nearly 11 and no issues, can't wait till I get her hip scored as I will be taken the xrays in and giving him a what for -
Be careful with removing dew claws if you ever wish to do a dog sport. Dew claws actually help the dog and ones that are correctly set on the leg should never be a problem.

The winner was an English Springer Spaniel entry Yeah there were quite a few in the Gundog set up area, you could hear shrieking whenever one was discovered I thought it was a great show, very nice judges who spent time on all dogs regardless of breed (always a plus in my book!) and stewards, even if our Sunday judge apparantly upset a few exhibitors with her choices Loved how close the planes were too, provided entertainment

We will be entering.

I don't see the problem with this add. There are alot on DOL that say the same thing....they are trying to do the best by the dog and get them into a home where they will receive more attention. While I couldn't personally do it, I don't have a problem with others do it if the dog ends up better off JMO

Would a maremma (or any LGD) protect pet dogs the way they would livestock? Say you got a maremma for a 'pet' and had other dogs, would they extend the same protective behaviour of the owner over the other dogs even if owner wasn't present?

South Australia is 30 spaces including prefix My girl is a SA bred girl and I got to pick her registration name. I think it was 25 previously but changed which was good news for me cause her full name without shortening it was 30 exactly :D

Got my Sunday numbers today If anyone is free on Sunday, can someone handle a dog for me? For group 3 and only for breed run off as I am not sure if there are any other Tollers entered so both my dogs will probably be up for breed, my usual handler for runoffs can't make it Sunday.
-
I got my Saturday numbers but not Sunday? Did those who entered both days recieve them in one envelope or two? Definately entered both days.

Retrieving & Field Training Talk
Sayreovi replied to RubyStar's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Thanks She has loads of potential I think anyway just from her desire and drive but I've never trained for retrieving trials so could be wrong No I haven't yet, I really should but always forget when they are held Will try soon and take her with me for a look. I've got a cap gun that we've started playing around with, need to take it with me out training so she associates that noise with retrieving. Thanks, I have a few things to train towards now -
Sheltie cross Pom. German Spitz's aren't very common I didn't think, so surely not a cross of one? Beautiful dog!
-
I haven't received mine either and I also did it via Ozentries. Hoping they come tomorrow!

Oh I don't think I could stomach frying it....does it smell? I've been really stingy with what treats I train with at the moment as they only get the devon roll cut up Really need to get back into all the other goodies. I train with no bumbag anymore, it was annoying me and I couldn't get to the food easy enough with one, so now I put a handful in my pocket and have the rest in the jackpot container. I just restock my pocket when I run out.

Retrieving & Field Training Talk

I do have a little brag even though I don't know how useful it is, but we were working on directed retrieves. I would throw two bumpers in different directions sometimes in sight sometimes not and sent her to them in varying order, she was nailing them and didn't pick up the wrong one once, so I threw one behind me and one in front as I thought this was harder (no idea! ) and she did both great :D She was really enjoying it, I've never seen her so nuts to do something. We did a few water retrieves as well and just worked on her bringing the bumpers straight to me and not shaking first :D Water makes her go a little crazy do we only did a couple before she lost it and went zooming everywhere. I am thinking of attempting a Novice trial in future but what would be the basics one teaches before entering? Just so I have a guide to train towards, we can't do much else (sgility/flyball) before she is older so thought this would be a good alternative while she is younger -

Not necessarily, my girl would have been smaller and more underdeveloped at 6 months than an adult Cocker. I will have to pad them out then, could I stuff them into some of that fire hose material? Would that be OK to use? Might go down to Bunnings and see what I could use as I will have to do all of them and using socks would get gross after awhle
