Which Breed Makes The Cutest Puppies?
Sayreovi replied to Henrietta's topic in General Dog Discussion
It's definitely a small 's' springer spaniel.. some serious springing going on in that photo! (ba doom CHING ;) ) This thread is ruining me. That puppy is an English Setter He looks so soft when asleep -
I would love to participate as well, I can offer 3 Tollers :D

I would be proud of her too, she is looking great and like she is having fun! :D -
LOL Sure, but you may not get her back :p Next week I plan on having a nice trial brag :p, I don't care if we don't pass but if she is as enthusiastic inside the ring as she is out of it I will be one happy chappy!!
-
Only a minor brag but Jovi did a 3 minute sit stay in a 'proper' situation at training today The most we've ever done was 2 minutes so she got a massive jackpot at the end of it, she looked very pleased with herself as well! :p Congrats on your pass and title DSO! How exciting :D

Looking good LL, might need to start pegging them in if you can as it looks like it is throwing out her rythm in the last couple -
How does it impact the 'desexing cause' that being told overfeeding is the reason for their dogs weight gain and subsequent lack of energy? It's one of the easiest things to change and improves the quality of life. If more people were told that desexed dogs require less food and adjusted accordingly maybe there wouldn't be so many wives tales about 'desexing makes your dog fat'. Desexed dogs require less food because Desexing doesn't make your dog fat??? Maybe I should say less energy(kj) per day rather than food if that's less confusing. Having a desexed dog doesn't automatically mean a fat lazy dog.

Murve, you should enter Hastings! We will be there as well for Jovi's first trial :D
-
Yeah I will be ringing them tomorrow (if they are open) to see if they have it or not, fingers crossed they do!

Has anyone else read Kris's book on tracking since it was posted awhile back? I want to buy it but would love to hear others opinions first....though I would ideally like to borrow it first so have to track down someone who has it :p

I am out as well, Jovi has come down with KC
-
Yup CCD, I initially wanted to just go straight into Novice but with my nerves probably best starting off in an easier class
-
Well I've taken the plunge and entered Jovi in our first obedience trial! We are doing Hastings at the end of this month, it's definately going to be an experience!

By Sponsoring your name will be mentioned as the person who paid for the cost of the sash. It will be on the website and in the catalogue as sponsored by XXXX (I'm not sure if it will be on the sash yet, im waiting on a reply from the show manager) The cost is yet to be determined, it will not be more then $20 It won't look silly at all, I know of people who has sponsored a sash in honor of their dogs, a business, their full name or no name at all. Awesome, sounds good, will email you then

What does sponsoring mean? How much do you pay? I would like to do group 3 but I don't have a prefix yet (though might by that time) so would it look a little silly seeing sponsored by Natasha?

I am confused by the two responses, why wouldn't you start out training something correctly rather then allowing them to do it the lazy way and having it fix it later? No different then any thing else you train and I would personally want to do it right the first time around! My puppy used to do the lazy drop and I didn't correct it as in future she will be allowed to move into that position (drop stays), but once we started heeling she started dropping more efficient and it corrected itself. I had taught my puppy alot of things by the time she was 12 weeks because she wanted to learn, nothing wrong with a bit of mental stimulation for a young puppy.

Thanks, Good idea, I just have to bite the bullet and enter a few trials and hopefully once I see she does well (which I know she will try hard to do) I can work on myself Running off isn't an issue with the 2 who I want to trial but I think when Nova did it in my first ever trials it stuck in my mind and no matter how many times I tell myself Darcy and Jovi would never go anywhere (and Darcy didn't in his trial) I just seem to subconsciously think they will......it's really annoying! Wish I had actually managed to enter a few trials while I was over there so you could have fixed me! I will go second in line for Cider! She looks like Jovi enough that no one would know the difference

Sounds like me before a trial! Might try that, pretend to be someone else! Can't hurt to give anything a go as I really want to be able to be calm and have fun!

Same here, though I hit a wall when trying to acquire my bitch after being in the breed for 7 years at the time and had titled my dogs in flyball and conformation, as I was told no one would sell me one outright as I had entire males at home (same breed) you know cause I might just breed them together over and over again. So starting out with males doesn't always work when some breeders are so close minded and silly. Good thing my male "that would never be used at stud by good breeders" was actually used at stud by what I consider good breeders who've actually got multiple titles front and back end on several dogs and the mating produced a bitch who I own fully. I hope other breeds are more open to new people starting out breeding as the above attitude was disgusting to me.

Ring nerves are my biggest enemy! All of my guys have been trained up to a high trialling level (in agility moreso) but you reckon I could actually enter and trial and pull off half the stuff I know we can do? I've tried! Nova takes off on me and pees as a stress reliver, Darcy shuts down and will walk an agility course and well haven't tried yet with Jovi! I still even get nervous going into the show ring and that's about the least stressful thing as you can get especially as we are usually the only ones in the breed there! Outside of the rings I am actually pretty relaxed and can do speeches etc no problems, put me in a ring and I fall to pieces Doesn't help I have dogs that are really sensitive to my moods Any tips would be greatly appreciated.......I've tried rescue rememedy (nearly took the whole bottle), chewing gum as that is apparantly meant to mask the fear stench and I really am not much of a drinker!

Desexing does not make a fat lazy dog, people who overfeed their dog make it fat. They need to reduce the amount of food the dogs are getting and up the exercise, alot of dogs are only as active as their owners make them ;) Probably doesn't want to do alot of exercise because it is fat and gets tired quicker. Coats are another matter altogether Hopefully I will be having a litter next year or the year after and I am still unsure of how I want them to go, in a breed (in Australia) where there is very few choices the idea of having a few entire dogs in pet homes is appealing. My first Toller (and first purebred!) was on a co-ownership and it got me into the breed, my others are all owned outright.

It was the snail mail that were the missing entries not the Ozentry ones ;)

I do the same, whenever the puppy food from the first bag I bought runs out they are switched.
