  1. Yes it would as only main/limited registered gundogs are allowed to compete in retrieving trials. Associates can compete in the RATG tests but the dog must be easily identified as a gundog. Don't know about the second part, if you have her microchip number couldn't you track down her registration name/papers through either QLD or NSW?
  2. I did the Melbourne to Adelaide trip to pick up my recent puppy, we of course had to stop several times for her to relieve herself and we were just careful about where. Be protective but not overly so that it's detrimental to the puppies socialisation. Yup, this was the reason why I drove over rather than fly her. Just a personal reason really, there are heaps of puppies being flown without a problem but I wasn't taking that risk no matter how small that she happens to be on the same flight as a dog with a disease/illness. It would just be my luck
  3. Maybe get your breeder to have a look over your current boy and if he is good enough, they can transfer him to main so you can enter neuter classes and get a taste of dog showing as a start. I am not sure how popular the classes are over in SA though so not sure if thats a worthwhile venture? Definately helps that you already own one of the breed, I would try and do something else like obedience or agility with your boy in the meantime to show you are dedicated plus it's fun! :D
  4. Ohh I am so sorry Jules for your loss, what a terrible shock!
  5. Yup all those reasons, mine don't sleep in crates at home but I use them everywhere else. The only negative is the price but mine had repaid themselves over and over just for ease of mind and a comfortable place to relax.
  6. No it wasn't good, especially when another shepherd from a neighbouring ring ran over as well during the commotion. Poor little dog, I wonder what caused it too escalate to that point?
  7. I understand where you're coming from, having had 2 experiences just like that with my Dally - one in CCD and one in CD. In the first instance, a GSD stood right over him and Zig leant back further and further until he literally fell over (and onto the neighbouring dog), the judge let us re-do our stays and he won the ring. In Zig's last Novice trial he had a huge male Rotti stand over him (silly goof only wanted to play but it made my heart leap ) but he held his ground, maintained eye contact with me and won the ring. Not something I want to put my youngster through - although it can happen in any ring we'll be skipping CCD. Plus then I'd have to teach her to heel on lead and I can't be bothered Agreed, though, that CCD is a great confidence builder for dog and handler if needed. This is why I don't do stays unless we are on a pass and even then if one of the dogs on either side of her is a known breaker I would withdraw, I don't want my dog to feel uncomfortable in any situation at a trial. I plan on entering in Novice for my next trial though I know it's not a gurantee to get solid dogs.....I saw 3 dogs get into a fight during stays at a trial on Saturday and this was in the high classes.
  8. He is your dog, you train him how you wish.....I just don't agree with it is all and if you are going to post pictures of a 5/6 month old doing box work don't expect everyone to agree with it ;) Plus he can't "click" into a bad habit if he is never allowed on the equipment in the first place.....kinda weird that the clubs website says: "Dogs less than twelve months old are not permitted to take part in the strenuous activities of flyball training. This is to ensure the physical development of the puppy or young dog is not harmed by jumping flyball hurdles or by excessive physical activity on the flyball box"
  9. I am actually really surprised that the club/instructors allowed you to use a box, is it the usual practice for Ballarat to let puppies do proper turn work on boxes? Don't mean to pick, just curious.
  10. I was thinking of coming down for that one as well, mainly for the RATG for the gundogs on the Saturday though so was only going to do the one trial....still thinking LOL
  11. There is also Frankston Dog Obedience Club, they train on a Saturday afternoon, beginner classes start at 1.30 http://www.fdoc.org.au/
  12. I went to the GSD Nationals last year (I think it was last year, at KCC) and met alot of lovely dogs who showed no unprovoked aggression and saw alot of dog friendly GSD's so it's a bit confusing and detrimental to the breed when Tarope is so adamately saying the breed is DA and will react aggressively if another dog rushes it regardless of the rushing dogs intention. Once I am ready for one, I will definately be researching more into lines and breeders as I definately do not wish to own a large powerful dog aggressive dog.
  13. Thanks everyone! LOL Murve, I am just lucky she is only a little girl....I would have been stuffed if she was Lab sized!
  14. We watched the stays I've uploaded her recall.....came in very quick and forgot to brake earlier and her SFE
  15. Back from our trial! Didn't pass but still had fun, she was very distracted by what was going on in the next ring so missed alot of commands and heeling very sloppy. What was funny was that her heeling is her best exercise by far and we went badly and yet the two things I thought might go wrong which was her SFE and recall she did perfectly and got 20/20 for both Gotta love when they do stuff like that! Judge mentioned when she was heeling correctly like when she was offlead for her recall walkup she was excellent, so I need to do more proofing in a trial environment on lead as I very rarely do stuff on lead. I also talked way too much in the ring Blame nerves on that one.... Didn't do stays as we weren't on a pass so didn't think it necessary. Even though we didn't pass and her heeling was shocking, I am very very pleased with how we went and when we worked together we did great and I went in the ring fairly calm and she came out of the ring happy and excited which was my main goal! :D Met up with Murve with Orlando and the little Sargeant (sp?) I could have scooped him up and brought him home, he was beautiful!
  16. I have rescue remedy for me not the dog, and I do have vodka in the fridge maybe I should bring that?
  17. That seems like alot of food How much does she weigh? My Tollers who are incredibly active and fit don't get half as much as what your girl does and only weigh about 5-10kg less than what your girl should (25-30kg).....not the same breed but trying to put it in perspective Though I don't feed anywhere close to the recommended amount and bulk it out with bones. I personally would cut out the lunch part altogether (healthy adult dogs don't need three meals a day ) or just feed her the bones/sardines in the morning instead of the BH and then fast her for a meal and see if that helps.
  18. Will do, I will more than likely be the only one with a Toller in CCD so I won't be hard to miss :p I am starting to feel a little nervous, but nothing like I've previously have when entering so hopefully tomorrow I will not be a nervous shaking wreck Here's hoping she is a dog that gets excited when I get nervous :p
  19. She has trained you well Olivebaby ;) Though it does sound like she is getting fed too much and because of that can allow herself to get picky with what she wants to eat and how. I would put her food down, leave it for 10 minutes if she doesn't eat it then take it away. No dinner for her. Try again the next day if the same thing happens take her food away again. She will soon understand she either eats out of her bowl or goes hungry ;) No dog will starve themselves when there is food in front of them.
  20. It's really good underfoot, it's on a soccer ground so has really good drainage, grassy and flat! I was training in my uggies on Tuesday, so definately not slushy
  21. What did you want to know Murve? I was there earlier in the week and will be there again tomorrow (I am trying to convice myself it's my training ground ), ground was nice and dry even though it had rained a fair bit.......rug up though! It started raining while I was training and while Jovi was fine I was freezing as it was windy too. It's not meant to rain Saturday but who knows!
  22. Have to remember this for Saturday, I have my first trial in years and am extremely nervous!! Point 2 is my actual reason for entering and too see how we go with me nervous, can't drink as the amount required for me to get a buzz won't allow me to drive so that's no good......have rescue remedy ready to go and have to remember to smile :D
  23. The clubs test for temperament and yet a GSD that is DA and HA is considered desirable even when the standard opposes it? So which one is incorrect? The standard or the breeders breeding such nervy unstable dogs?
  24. What a pity that some breeders aren't paying attention to the most important part of the standard. I want to own a GSD one day in the future but sounds like it's a bit of a gamble attempting to get one that isn't DA or HA. Such a beautiful breed that is being ruined inside and out by the sounds of what everyone is saying.... "The German Shepherd Dog must be of well balanced temperament, steady of nerves, self assured, totally at ease (except when provoked) and good natured as well as attentive and easy to train. He must possess instinctive drive, resilience and self confidence in order to be suitable as a companion, watch dog, protection, service and herding dog." DISQUALIFYING FAULTS a) Weak character, aggression without provocation or nervousness
  25. Great photos as always but I love love love that Saluki!! He is stunning!
