  1. Will definately be keeping an eye on her, her mum used to do 10 month cycles so I was kinda hoping she would do that.....seeing as I want to trial her!
  2. I thought she was too old as well, but when I googled it said dogs can get them up to 14 months of age? I was unsure what to call it, as nothing had happened or changed in our home environment or even at the club to warrant reactions (well I didn't think so) Definately working on confidence building again rather than anything else......would having one of my older dogs with her while building confidence help? Ha this thread makes me sound so stupid, but this has seriously never happened with my older two and she came to me cocky and confident ETA: Sorry that was a lie, I have just started working full time hours again instead of part time. Last week was my first week so it would make sense now that she is a little unsure of what is going on.......would that be a reason?
  3. I hope not! She had her first season only 5 months ago so I am praying she isn't a bitch who cycles so frequently! Thanks for the reply everyone, will work with her slowly. We aren't going back to club for awhile as we have weekend away shows coming up so she won't associate it with bad things when we go back.
  4. Congrats!! The more I see of flatties in the ring the more I love them, there is a gorgeous liver boy in the Victorian ring at the moment who is divine!
  5. What does everyone do during their young dogs fear periods? Do you bother training or hold off until it's over? Jovi (13months), seems to be having one at the moment. Very jumpy and wary of everything. She usually has nerves of steel and will do anything confidently but yesterday she became fearful of an instructor who she is usually friends with and wouldn't go anywhere near him even though he was offering food and was jumping when the seesaw made a noise even though the week before she was standing next to it unflinching. Nothing happened to her either last week or before we started that would make her like that. Even today when she walked on plastic she startled badly I just ignored her reactions and just worked on things that she was still eager to do. I assume that's what you are meant to do? My two boys were pretty consistent when growing and honestly can't remember when they went through either fear period, so this is new for me!
  6. Hi jrm88 you have to do a email register through their web site it has all the info there that you need to know, only the top 8-10 dogs will be selected to join :D good luck, this what had to do here is the link to the site http://www.actiondogsvic.com/membership.htm I train at Action Dogs. I *think* I was on the waiting list for 12 months, but it varies. Best bet is to put your name down for a few clubs and then wait (or, if you're really keen, train some foundation behaviours). When your name comes up, you get invited to a 'test" day - you don't need to have any agility skills to pass it. It is about testing your dog's recall (important because we start training off leash on day 1), how he/she copes around other dogs, drive, ability to learn (ie demonstrate a trick) etc. I was very nervous but there is no need to be. They normally only accept up to 10 people but there were 12 in our group and we all got through (that isn't the standard though). They have a testing day coming up, but they seem to only accept dogs 10 months and older. We will be there I would still email and get your name put on the list or see if you can come to the testing anyway?

  8. I emailed them last night and when they replied mentioned they could put me in contact with someone in my area so I could have a look at one, if you don't get any offers on here maybe email and ask if they could put you in contact with a local? I was very pleased with the price and inclusions, so it's been put at the top of my list....just need to save a little more!
  9. I've been looking for a trailer as well, what would be a general price guide for a standard 4 berth Crusing Canines trailer? I will call tomorrow but hate going into things blind so would appreciate an estimate first :D
  10. Didn't end up going Sunday, I was so tired so I decided too sleep in instead
  11. On my upper thigh, in a fist so I don't unintentionally give confusing hand signals. Find it quite amusing that I remembered to keep my mouth shut but forgot about my hands. Where does everyone place their hands?
  12. Well I nearly have my nerves under control! :D We had our first Novice trial yesterday and Jovi did so well, I was so happy with her! We had a few little hiccups in the heeling part and for some reason she stopped in a stand and watched me keep walking and I had to call her up and she ran back too my side so happy haha, but for the majority of it she heeled perfectly. I however according to the judge kept doing extra signals with my left hand and as I had no one filming couldn't see what she meant. I do a hand signal and command when heeling off and only ever use my left hand for a stand signal (it would explain why she stopped in a stand though). So we got docked massively and ended up getting a DQ but I didn't speak to her which I am happy with! Get one thing under control and then it's another thing to work on Got full marks for SFE, retrieve, stays but lost points on the recall because when I did the about turn I stopped straight away instead of listening to the judge and coming in a little more than stopping Going back to the drawing board a bit and working on my hand signals so I don't confuse her again and so I don't get docked for "extra" commands in future!
  13. I was lucky and able to leave my desexed boy with my girl during her entire season, he had absoloutely no interest in her at all. I was actually kind of shocked and thought I would have to seperate them as he was desexed fairly late and had been around entire bitches before and got pretty excited. So it was a pleasant surprise
  14. Well we are staying with Black Hawk, my guys have been on it for about a month and look great!! Just bought 2 bags of my supplier who conviently lives 5 minutes away!! $150 for 40kg of food, it's amazing I was paying $350 for 60kgs before as each dog needed a different type but they all can be on this!! My bank balance loves it :D
  15. I will be there both days if it's not pouring rain! We had a really good training session yesterday, and even had some help with distractions in the way of several crows and a little mudlark! Silly mudlark would just walk around following us while we did some heel work He proved quite useful actually, he walked directly in front of her during recalls and she just ran straight passed him, and then when I put her in a stand stay he went right up to her and all but walked underneath her belly. Good girl didn't move an inch and watched me like a hawk Cocky little bird though tempting a birdy gundog like that!
  16. Congrats Seita and Ella. Compared too that my brag isn't as huge, but we had our club competition and Jovi came first with a score of 91/100. Very proud of her, she did very well.....I need work as I talk too much even when I am not trying too (I talk when I am nervous!)
  17. Do you know what the maximum scores are allowed to be for the breed? For me 16 is way too high as a parent of an agility/obedience dog especially of a larger breed IMO, I know hips are a combination of genetics and environment but I personally would be looking at another litter unless the pup is perfect in every other way and then if you are willing to take the risk........though this is coming from someone who's breed average is about 11.
  18. Having a dog that doesn't have a high value for other dogs or having a dog you don't let play with every dog it comes across is not the same as having a dog that is not well socialised. Socialisation is about far more than letting your dog play with others. I personally see no benefit in having a dog that has a high value for others, but each to their own. I agree 100% I very rarely allow my dogs to socialise off lead with other dogs and really they hardly ever play with them when off lead anyway as one is usually scouting the area, another is running around flat out usually chasing a ball while the last one is trying desperately hard too keep up with the ball chaser! They will all play together at home so they aren't missing out, they just tend too like each other (and know the limitations as well) and me better ;) All three are very well socialised in the way I want them to be, I can take them anywhere and do anything with them, they will happily say hello on lead but I don't see off leash play with random dogs good or necessary for their socialisation when that dog decides it doens't like mine suddenly. I much prefer controlled on lead interactions, the ability to protect my dog quickly and easily, and have them find me more rewarding then something else.
  19. There was an article that interviewed the filmer but I can't find it now, the dogs didn't belong to anyone. They were part of a local Aboriginal community. That's the same reason why the Dugong was also speared on the beach, it was a legal hunt by the Aboriginals. RottnBullies
  20. Just be careful with those coloured suits, if your pup has some dark markings along it's topline the colour will blend in with your pants/skirt and make it look like your pup has a dippy topline if you stand behind him while stacking. Of course it doesn't matter so much in the baby classes but in the adult classes you want to show off the dog not have it blend in with you Though you could always stand in front of the dog in lineups so wearing a darker suit won't matter much Personally I really like a brightish red, pink or green with merles. When you can get to a show next check out what colours Aussie exhibitors (and even the merle Collie exhibitors) are wearing and you can see what will work and what is not helping the dog out. My show leads are black/hot pink, black/turquoise and black/apple......for reddy/orange dogs so don't worry about trying not to stand out much ;)
  21. Yup, here is the demo in question.....I love the big black dog at the end! http://www.youtube.com/user/marsbarzy#p/u/6/9J23L1k7mS0
