Accidents can happen to anyone regardless of their experience and how well they are prepared but unfortunately she paid with her life for it. Her age has nothing to do with it.
-
Mmm interesting, at what age do you consider someone experienced and knowledgable? 30? 40? 50? All dogs can fight and I would reckon even "experienced and knowledgable 40/50 year olds" would have a hard time pulling apart a pack of dominant breeds like these if they suddenly dislike one another :) Very sad to all involved

Have you tried the puppy 4legs? It's what I use for every day training as they are already in nice little pieces and don't have that horrid coating on the outside.

Start Line Procedures "slingshot Start"
Sayreovi replied to sheena's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I've seen a few people down here do them as well, and we practice doing the running starts at training occasionally. Though I doubt I will ever use it as my girl is quick of the mark and has a nice solid stay. I don't think any judge would DQ doing a different sort of start as long as you (and your dog) stay in the ring and the dog appears to be under control :) -
If you are in the groups on the inside area, there is no room for gazebos, people set up in the stable areas.......there is very limited room though and people aren't great with setting up smart so everyone fits

Just received an email saying that the Ridgeback club is holding a lure day on the 9th September at KCC. We will be there hopefully, if anyone hears something sounding like a dog being strangled don't worry it's just my guys screaming (It's a breed thing )

I agree (in some cases). Another Border I groom regularly I always assumed was shy but I have realised he is just reserved and I have tried to win him over but he always snubs me. He has no interest in my affection, it's almost as if he is just tolerating me. I won't give up though! Yup I do agree that most of the time they are actually shy (and need to be treated differently) Haha Her father is very similar to her, he snobs everyone off so much so that I now tell people beforehand not to be offended :p
-
Just my two cents but reserved doesn't always equal shy! My breeds standard actually calls for them to be reserved. I've had heaps of people tell me my girl is 'shy' just because she didn't run up to them and demand pats. She has no desire to go out of her way to meet most people (usually ignores them as they hold no value to her) and when she does, is incredibly polite and gentle. She is very confident in most situations and bounces back extremely quickly from scares, she goes to Royals, shows, flyball and agility comps and never shows fear or shyness. She would probably be even more reserved and ignore everyone in the same situation that your puppy was in :) I think people (even experienced people) tend to see a dog that is reserved and incorrectly label it shy.

For Those That Have Used The Suprelorin Implant
Sayreovi replied to OSoSwift's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
What a bugger OSS! My boy had a 6 month one done about 13-14 months ago and it's finally worn off, not sure about fertility but everything else is back to normal, his attitude (didn't miss this one in regards to bitches!), drive, coat and testical size. I won't be getting him done again. -
I am about to find out how worthwhile insurance is, I've just sent in my very first claim after have 2/3 dogs on it for years, if they don't put it through then I will be cancelling it :) I have a credit card with a large limit on it that is also my dog emergency card so do have a backup just in case.

Congrats again Ptolomy! He is definately a star both in the ring and out (he is such a sweet boy!) and it was a massive honour watching the best obedience Toller strutting his stuff!
-
Congrats!! A clean jumping Border? Surely you jest :p

Thanks for that, they should get rid of the other page seeing as it's not being kept up to date :)

Thanks for that, mmm it's just Black Hawk yeah when on Facebook? The earliest entry on the page I am on is from April? http://www.facebook.com/?ref=tn_tnmn#!/blk.hawk.holistic?sk=wall

Where are you guys reading this? I went onto the BH page and nothing?

I wish that happened to my girl, her mother came in about 11 months and cycled every 10 months. My girl came in at 8 months and cycles every 6, which is just awesome when trying to compete  I take my girl out for walks for most of her season, I however do drive her to an oval instead of walking her around the block. My boy was on suprelorin when she was in season and he was still very willing to mount her so had to be seperated anyway. He didn't cry or stress when seperated though which was good, her last season the injection had worn off so he was a pain in the butt!

Yup! ---------- Though I would be very careful about your dog humping every other dog, it's extremely rude and one day you might come across a dog that takes serious offence to it. If your dog came over to mine and tried to hump them, then I would be trying to get yours away quick smart as mine HATE dogs that are rude and there would be a fight. Bit of a sore point, as it's very annoying having random dogs trying to hump your dogs and owners think they are 'playing'

You should :) It was a bit sad that there aren't more Tollers in agility seeing as they are so well suited. Thanks everyone, she is a special little girl and will be interesting how she goes at her next comp (about a month away) as she did the same with flyball, started of slow and unsure and then her third comp she stunned everyone myself included by knocking nearly 2 seconds of her time :D We are having heaps of fun though which is I wanted more than any pass (plenty of time for those!)

Finally a massive brag! Jovi got two novice jumping passes today! Very proud of my little girl, it's only her second trial and while I thought a pass would have been nice I did not expect two in one afternoon!!

Agility Training Talk Thread
Sayreovi replied to Vickie's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Whoo hoo!! Massive brag, Jovi's second trial today and my little girl picked up not one but two novice jumping passes!!! Our agility runs were nice and one faults , first one was my silly fault. I started pulling away from the weavers too early and she came with me as she saw the Aframe *bugger* though she got the hard entry (which was the same entry for excellent and masters!) The rest of the run was faultless and I was extremely happy with that as at the start there was a line of tyre, jump, jump and then DW but you had to pull the dog before the DW onto a table. Jovi is a contact suck so I decided to lead out enough that I was blocking most of the DW and then pivot to drive her away from it and I was so happy it worked like a charm (love having an awesome start line wait! :D) Second one happened on the weavers again, there was a dog tied up about 3 metres away from the weaves and as she was weaving it started barking at her and she turned her head for a second and missed a pole haha again the rest of the run was faultless. Our first pass was a bit of a mess and slow but a pass  Second one was very nice and quick, I nearly stuffed us up again as I didn't really know if she would take a tunnel as it was a bit of a tough entry but she did and it threw me out and I wasn't in the right spot for the next obstacle but she did it anyway and didn't even bat an eyelid when I rear crossed her while she was going in the tunnel :D So very nice day out indeed :D Can't wait for her to gain her confidence in a trial environment as she is going to be a very quick and nice dog to handle! -
I know a card won't ever bring a pet back but I think it's such a lovely and kind hearted thing to do :)

I use a local vet for general dog things, I only started using these vets 2 years ago as I had a massive issue with my vet of 10 years! I've found them great vets and nurses alike, they explain all the procedures with me without sounding like they are talking to someone dumber :p open minded with no pressuring to my limited vaccine, natural treatments and raw food type of dog raising :) The only thing I don't like is they have a clinic cat and having cat hating dogs, it's a bit annoying sometimes, luckily he keeps out of the way so is aware of my dogs not so friendly behaviour! All my breeding issues, I go to Monash which is about 40 minutes away.

Building Speed With The Weaves
Sayreovi replied to sheena's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Be interesting to know as well. My boy single steps with his head held high, and my girl hops through with her head low. Both trained the same way and my boy is currently faster (and looks very pretty doing it too :p), will be interesting watching what my girl does when she gets more confidence and tries to go through quicker. -
Building Speed With The Weaves
Sayreovi replied to sheena's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
That's horrible! Why do people feel the need to be so horrible I am a bigger lady as well, so it's very sad to hear that people who should be doing it for fun and for the dogs make such nasty mean comments behind your back -
Building Speed With The Weaves
Sayreovi replied to sheena's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
On this, have you ever made her redo the weavers at a trial if she enters wrong or pops out? I know this has been my major issue with my boy, if I made him redo anything he would shut down at trials, his weavers were one of his best things at training. He could do it any time, any where and under any distraction but he lost it at trials as I stuidly made him go back and redo anything missed or done incorrectly when we first started. So I've had to sacrifice accuracy for speed and confidence at the moment. Slowly working our way back but maybe your girl is similar? Going slow to get it right the first time?
