  1. Since when? Thanks for letting me know btw
  2. K9, sounds like you train people the same way you train dogs? *Prints this thread for dog training future reference*
  3. Sounds like an idea out of a book called *Natural dog training* - I forget the authors name but I didn't find it a very helpful book anyway.
  4. Just reading this thread with interest, I have to say I'm relieved to know that my fasting my dogs once a fortnight isn't harmful or cruel. They're a bit on the tubby side anyway
  5. Look at what I unintentionally started.. my poor lil innocent Chi is being made fun of. :p
  6. I think K9 needs to include Chihuahua sized collars in his repertoire.... *slap* Thanks Poodlefan, that's one purdy collar! :p :p
  7. P.S Will look up those collars thanks Poodlefan or alternatively go down to Bonnets and see what I can findsies. cheers P.P.S Timmy is offended by your comments about his size, or lack thereof.
  8. :p Gee thanks, the ever helpful K9 force :p :p Sorry, mine did and bolted off to another dog and its owner to bark at them. I was on the phone at the time talking to a dog trainer, running through some tips on using my new prong collar with my Shepherd who I also had with me. That'll learn me to try and do two things at once, and to use a nylon leash on my Chi.
  9. Can someone suggest a long thin SAFE lead suitable for a Chihuahua then please? Also what leather collar is going to be small enough, and safe enough for such a small dog? Thanks :p
  10. I lost a cat through tragic circumstances last year, and it has taken me over a year to be able to think about him without crying. :D Take care of yourself and remember that you gave that cat the best possible life, and that he wouldn't want you to feel sad. :D
  11. ooh my dogs like it too. When I'm too lazy to do their meat, or if I've run out, they always get Natures Gift. Good to hear its made just how they say it is, too. Will grab a Natures Gift show bag or two for the doggies and kitties at the Royal Show. ;)
  12. Thanks for the links and ideas, much appreciated. Have found a great discount on Advantage for cats, will certainly be purchasing online from now on, I paid $15 more a few weeks ago when getting it from the vet. Thanks again.
  13. Hi Sorry if this has been posted recently, my search of the forum came up with nothing. What is the cheapest online pet products shop for dog&cat stuff? Have just seen some great prices at Vetshopaustralia but wondered if any others are cheaper; especially for flea products. Links appreciated, thanks.
  14. Just a question off the side, after reading all of these posts; Do you altogether cease using corrections once the dog is proofed, or do you intermittently correct?
  15. wagalot Posted on 10th Jun 2005 - 12:55 PM In reference to my post, I believe I wrote: My dog didn't pull all the time, in fact, most of the time he trotted along nicely on a loose lead, it was the fact that he sometimes pulled in certain situations. I looked at the prong collar as more of a communication tool to get the dog to re-focus and relax. He gets extremely excited when he see's his prong, whereas my Chihuahua freaks out at the sight of his doggy jacket. You tell me which looks scarier.
  16. wagalot Posted on 9th Jun 2005 - 04:34 PM Prong collars can't do any damage if used correctly. They're easier to use than a check chain too. (IMHO) I wouldn't have put one on my eleven year old dog if I thought it was going to hurt him. He stopped his occasional pulling, there was no jerking involved, and the slight pinch that he got from the collar only served to decrease his drive and help him to relax. Result - one happier dog, and one much happier owner!
  17. My tiny semi-toothless dog eats lamb necks too, but it takes him about 2 hours to polish one off.
  18. :D What a beautiful tribute to two lovely dogs. Run free Yogi and Bear.....
  19. My dog killed one of my baby bunnies (it escaped its enclosure) , so I guess he has high prey drive after all, but he doesnt try to kill my cats, in fact he fears one of them. So I guess he has high drive, weak nerves? IS that right Steve?
  20. I saw a martingale with a half prong on it the other day, on a Lab. Never seen one like that before, has anyone else? Perhaps it was custom made. Here is a link to some good collars: Martingale collar
  21. I've put a prong collar both around my wrist, and around my own neck and popped it several times. ( ) No puncturing my furless skin or bruising resulted.
  22. The worms in Kangaroo meat are apparently harmless to dogs. Kangaroo meat for pet consumption has preservatives in it, and all sorts of other crap. The best Kangaroo meat to buy for your dogs (IMO) is the human quality consumption meat. It is preservative free and doesn't contain fillers or dyes. My Chihuahua refuses to eat it, whereas my Shepherd will eat anything. A safe way to feed raw kangaroo meat is to freeze it first before defrosting and feeding to the dogs. That way alot of the nasties (that are in every other meat as well) get killed off before you feed your dogs. Question: Can dead worms infect a dog and make it wormy? Normal processing of kangaroo meat kills any worms that may be in it. The wormy meat is not used for the human consumption meat, that's another way to get around it if it makes you squeamish. Mostly it's maggots and not worms anyways, that are found in the meat. ~As told to me by my husband who is a butcher and works with kangaroo meat exclusively. ~
  23. P.S Purple Julie, you were on my original list that I passed to Steve, so inevitably you will be on the current list that he has.
  24. ok, a fortune by my standards = *broke* mother of 3. Well I will start a new thread on Monday, seeing if there are 10 people interested in attending in S.A, is that ok Steve? Otherwise it's back to the drawing board. Hazz, I will pm you Monday.
  25. Not enough people in South Australia unless you wanted to pay a fortune for the priveledge, hence me starting a list for the Victorian workshop that I too planned to attend. Now that I cannot attend that one either, I am just sittin and waitin for the DVD. Hazz, if you PM me I might know of someone in S.A that is ok to train with. (Not as good as K9 though but ... )
