How Dd You Convince Your Oh To Get Another Dog?
Mags replied to Atanquin's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hmmm who had to convince who??? OH & I walked into the vets on Christmas Eve to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a tiny little black and tan dog ran out from inside, sweetest little guy though in appalling condition and we ask "OK whats the story as they are always rescuing someone" - he's there to be PTS cause he's vicious - NOT! So off we go as I had to get the last of the shopping done. Dropped OH home and about an hour later - phone rings and its OH where are you? we won't make the vet if you don't get home soon. Me - so we are taking the tiny dog are we? OH - Well its Christmas and he doesn't deserve to be put down and I'm home and once we get him better and trained he would be perfect for your mum. So off to the vet I go after picking OH up to pick up his rescue dog lol. Bertie is now a foster failure - no way he is going anywhere despite my mum loving him and being happy to take him lol. So when it came time for my rescue dog to come home absolutely nothing was said. -
What Do You Do With Your Dogs When You Go Away?
Mags replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
No way can we go away and leave the animals but that's OK we love being home with them. We use to have friends that lived close that had as many animals as us so that made it easy we use to look after each others animals but they have moved so no longer an option. -
Sorry if I was the breeder there is no way I would let your mother have an animal of mine. Not only does her behaviour suggest she is not committed but why would anyone want to be lumbered with an ongoing problem which is what it is clear your mother would be. I feel really sorry for the breeder and hope this is sorted without a significant waste of her time and money. And people wonder why some breeders ask so many questions, turn people away and refuse to take deposits - this would be why. Though it doesn't sound like we are taking about a deposit your mother has clearly been making ongoing payments for the puppy. Why couldn't your mother save up the money herself and pay the breeder before the puppy came home? No way would I want to go through what this poor breeder is - for gods sake she is dealing with a family crisis - a little understanding from your mother would not have gone astray especially as the breeder seems to have gone out of her way to be helpful.

Couldn't agree more and we have had indoor cats (access to an enclosure) for many years. Sick to death of some people letting their cats, especially entires, wander and cause others grief - know of many people that love cats and have their own indoor/enclosure cats that are less then impressed with cats that wander and cause behavioural issues in their indoor cats. All owners of pets/companion animals, call them what you will, regardless of species should keep them contained and stop them causing grief to others in their community and prevent them killing wildlife. Unfortunately more and more restrictions/legislative are being put on owners because of those doing the wrong thing without any effort on the part of govt (local/state) to enforce the laws that are currently in place. In our area wandering cats are an issue but so are wandering dogs. And imo cats that can't be handled, or have behavioural issues like inappropriate toileting tend to be PTS or dumped at the pound very quickly. Unfortunately cats seem even more disposable in our society than dogs.

With the number of animals we have I put the money in a seperate account and its there when we need it. Though if we only had one or 2 we would have insurance. Have heard some good things about Pet Plan from people that have had to claim. They might cost a little more but you seem to get better coverage.

Bowhouse look even cheaper than Pets1 for both products but you would have to check postage etc too.
-
Try Bowhouse too they have good customer service and were considerably cheaper on some products - depends what you are after.
-
No your not imagining it - they have had a steep price increase shop around they are no longer even close to the cheapest.

Puppies/dogs get a wellness check asap after receiving them.

All very nice dogs playing happily together. What happened to his back leg? He looks a real sweetie, our grey has learnt to love playing too - so very nice to see.

Should be remembered that getting a purebred puppy from a breeder is no guarantee of getting a dog that meets your needs either as unfortunately no matter how much research you do not all breeders are created equal and neither are puppies/dogs. Over the years we have had purebred puppy rescues, purebred adult rescues and puppies direct from registered breeders - the only one that we had significant issues with was a puppy from a registered breeder. Yes the rescues may have had issues but we were ready for them and they were certainly something that could be managed. At least if you are getting an adult from a reliable source you have some idea of how it will react in given circumstances. Goodluck with your decision. We currently have 2 dogs both rescues, one planned and one not. When we introduced the second planned rescue we were careful with introductions and all has gone well. Both lovely dogs who came with issues but things we are working through and very glad we have both of them.

Wanting To Buy Breakaway Collars For Dogs Please
Mags replied to kbrown's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have keepsafe breakaway collars on the dogs. Katie's keepsafe has a reflective strip so I can see her when I put her out to toilet in the dark. Available from a number of places, here are links to 2. http://www.naturalpetstore.com.au/d/KSCR/21/accessories/keepsafe-break-away-dog-collar-reflective/ http://www.topdogs.com.au/products/Keep-Safe-Break%252dAway-Collar.html -
Feel really sorry for the poor dogs that were attacked and their owner. Also feel sorry for the dog that now has to be pts because his owners didn't bother to make any effort to keep him safe. Have no sympathy for his owners though if there are young children involved they too are victims in this. Also think if you can't be bothered training a dog and keeping them safe don't have one. And totally disagree with the thinking if you can't be bothered training get a little dog - don't get a dog at all unless you are prepared to put the work in and dogs are work. I am sick to death of some tiny/small dog owners who think it cute/funny that their dogs are dog aggressive & have absolutely no manners or training - what the .... is with that??????

Side Effects Of Feeding Dogs Bread?
Mags replied to heroeswit's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
We have had this happen and ended up fencing off the drive way which was annoying as it cut down the amount of space the dogs had. And then showed the parent the food her kids had thrown on our driveway and sdvised her if they kept doing it we would start throwing the food back over for her to clean up. Suddenly she managed to get off her backside and tell her kids to stop feeding our dogs. I would be restricting the dogs access to the neighbour as I would be really unhappy at someone feeding my dogs bread - I have seen a dog bloat and die after scoffing a belly full of stale/mouldy bread. -
Great news that something is finally coming through about the greenhound system in NSW. Will be interesting to see what the rest of the procedure/costs etc are. I certainly wouldn't put Katie in kennels for a week to pass the test. If I have to continue to take her out in public with a muzzle it is not big deal as she doesn't give a toss and neither do I though it would be nice for the breed if they didn't have to be muzzled in public. She was very scared of hands when we got her so we will continue working her through this issue, really don't want her training put back by an assessor acting aggressively towards her just to see the reaction took us too long to gain her trust to risk it not worried about the prey drive part of the test as she lives with a very annoying tiny dog and cats and loves them and ignores other dogs/animals when we are out and about.

Professional Pet Transport Services In Australia
Mags replied to DogSvet's topic in General Dog Discussion
Of course you are and it is word of mouth that most people go by, many have had problems with airlines/transport companies and if we do not share our experiences both good and bad then we are not doing our furry companions justice. I want my animals to travel as safely as possible. I have had a purebred show kitten go missing in transit and its not fun especially when AAE didn't give a rats about the missing "cargo" and tried to blame his breeder - she had apparently ripped me off and didn't put him on the plane - happens all the time when people buy puppies and kittens from interstate!!!!!! Bad luck for them that his breeder was a friend and they ended up with her at one end and me at the other causing them grief until they found him. Also not impressed that they tried to palm someone elses beautiful elder, tubby and I am sure much loved moggie off on me just so I would go away. I have also tried to check an animal in for her trip to her new family to find the transport company had not booked her flight despite a confomation that they had - the airline in this case was virgin and the guy at check in, done through Toll, was terrific . Not amusing given I had taken her on the way to work and it was a 2 hr drive for someone to come and pick her up - thankfully with the help of the check in staff it was sorted, she made her plane and got to her new owner in time. Can not speak highly enough of the airline staff that dealt with me, not so happy with the transport company that didn't bother to do its job. Companies know we are going to share experiences if they do not want bad experiences shared they need to provide the service they are paid for and treat clients and their companion animals with care and respect. -
Love walking the dogs hate being harrassed by dogs that are left to wander or are aren't under control.

Reconcile/prozac For Dog - How Lethal Is This Drug?
Mags replied to Mollyrulz's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Goodluck with dealing with her anxiety, sometimes medication is needed to relieve the anxiety enough for behaviour modification to be able to be effective. Hope that is the case with your girl and you are able to get on topof her issues. -
This unfortunately is my view too.

How Did Everyone Fall In Love Their Pooch?
Mags replied to huskies4life88's topic in General Dog Discussion
Saw Katie our grey listed on the Hawkesbury pound site and thought what a beautiful girl she was but given we had cats & tiny Bertie (Pap x Pom) we weren't brave enough to rescue her. We already had our name down with greyhound rescue for a cat/tiny annoying dog friendly grey. Peter & Janet rescued Katie from Hawkesbury pound and she was the cat/small dog friendly grey that came to live with us. She is the sweetest dog and we are so glad she joined our family. A huge thank you to Peter and Janet for rescuing her and entrusting her to our care. -
I do this already have seen/heard of too many chips moving/stop working and coming out even years after implant.

Very nice thanks for sharing.
