  1. Yep. Just as annoying are those people who feel it's okay to stick their hands in your dogs face because he/she 'looks friendly' and so must want attention. And I see nothing wrong with picking a pup or smaller dog up when a 'friendly' dog approaches. Provided you're not running around with fluffy above your head squealing what's the problem? Definitely agree with this. Love the poster maybe we should print it off and hand it to the idiots with the "friendly" dogs, the off leash dogs, the not under control dogs. I suspect the only problem with this is that they either won't get it or can't read. And since I have had a tiny dog - trust me I will pick him up if some idiot lets their dog rush at him uninvited as 1 snap from a medium sized dog could kill him.
  2. I am sure everyone will have a different view and I only have favs in three groups Gundogs: Gorden Setter, Labrador, Field Spaniel Hounds: Greyhound, Irish Wolfhound, Borzoi Working: Kelpie, ACD, Aussie Shepherd
  3. Beautiful photos - thanks for sharing.
  4. I show cats not dogs and have found Ag shows are noisy (you need to be selective about who you will show there), generally have poor facilities and you have to watch your animals and gear very closely (we usually do a team effort so everyone has a chance to go to the loo, get a coffee etc) and keep wet ones/disinfectant wipes and paper towels handy. There are crazies but then that can happen anyway and you can also meet lovely people who genuinely want to learn about your breed and do not have a clue about other types of shows. I have had these people find me at breed shows after meeting at an ag show as they now know where to come to look at their choosen breed or look at various breeds and work out what could work for them when they are looking for that new family member.
  5. This is what we do too. When we had ACD's as adults they were only fed once a day but the dogs we currently have - a grey and a tiny pap X - I am more comfortable feeding twice daily.
  6. Nasty reactions can happen from vaccinations - I have ended up with cats in hospital on oxygen and a drip following a vaccine reaction. And a friend lost her standard poodle to one. Perhaps you need to consider titre testing rather than vaccination when she is next due. Certainly worth looking at the AVA vaccine guidelines and reducing vaccinations to the minimum required.
  7. Agree with this. And hope the ranger recovers well those wounds sound horrendous.
  8. This - how the heck could it happen especially as they clearly allow people into that area as well.
  9. Think many of us have had to make that decision over the years - do what we love or make a reasonable living in a job you tolerate. I made the decision to make a reasonable living - it pays the bills, keeps a roof over our head, pays for our furkids and allows us to do a bit towards etc. When my husband became disabled it was even more important. I am now 50 and should hopefully retire with decent super in 10yrs or so. Do not regret my decision though I do miss the life style I turned my back on.
  10. Our tiny dog prefers to eat a couple of times a day and has adlib bikkies overnight in his crate and that seems to work well for him. If he was in kennels where his portion was given once a day he would be fine as he would eat it over several sittings during the day. Certainly could not have done this with any of our other dogs as they would have vaccuumed up the bikkies as soon as they were put out and our grey is the same - mind you we split her food portion in half and feed her twice a day too as we think it safer in a deep chest breed.
  11. So very sorry for your loss.
  12. So very sorry to hear of your loss. Farewell to your very special boy whose paws will always hold your heart.
  13. When looking for ticks your finger tips are your friend and are far better at finding ticks then your eyes. Slowly go over your dogs sarching with your finger tips anything that feels different you then look at to assess. Do not forget between the toes and pads of their feet. With a coated dog the places where eyes are helpful are in the ears - don't forget to check out the ear creases and the lips - check inside the lips not just the outside of the mouth. Goodluck - the more you do it the better you get at it.

Totally agree with this comment. Really do not think most people have any clue about dog breeds and often even get colours wrong. A friends standard poodle (he is in pet clip) managed to get out of their yard - as soon as they realised he was missing they all went searching - one of their neighbours told their daughter she had seen their "pit bull" go passed just minutes before. She was scared because this "dangerous" dog was loose. They found their poodle not long afterwards and introduced him to their neighbour and explained his breed. He is a lovely dog and gets on well with everyone regardless of species.
  15. Terrific thanks for sharing - would appreciate any other info you uncover.
  16. That's horrible and what a response from the police. Dad had his Border Collie baited a few years back and several other dogs in their street and surronding streets were baited. The police took it very seriously as they thought it was some one getting rid of the dogs so they could break in - it was just a few weeks before Christmas. Really sorry for your friend.
  17. Just checking in to see if there is any news on the little man.
  18. Poor babies - they just had them on the telly and they are moving around OK but looked like they had a belly full of worms. Hope they find them a safe foster home.
  19. Definitely a second opinion as soon as possible - despite what you have been told by the vet you can see there is something very wrong - hopefully there is a vet open on weekends or at least one on call close to you. Goodluck with your little guy.
  20. There are zoonotic diseases/parasites that pass between animals and people so it depends what your brother is sick with as has already been stated. Puppies do not have fully developed immune systems so are more susceptable to infection than most adult dogs would be.
  21. How could they do that to him after all the years of love he gave them - some people are just oxygen thieves - the poor little guy being left like that to die. So glad some one found him and he has a home where he will be loved for however much time he has left.
  22. Id rather refund than have your mother take the pup - no amount of contracts would get me there. If she is a pain now she is going to be a major pain later and experience tells me to get the hell away as quick as the breeder can. Definitely agree with this
