How Does This Happen - Do Councils Have Any Control?
dogdayz replied to slk's topic in General Dog Discussion
add to that the fact most require yearly renewel with same neighbour approvals, and lets face it in an average dogs life span you can expect a few neighbour changes...apparently 'dog is for life' hasnt reached vic yet. -
How Does This Happen - Do Councils Have Any Control?
dogdayz replied to slk's topic in General Dog Discussion
Most vic councils require you must have the extra dog before you can get the permit, so doubt they have one as yet. Most will also require neighbour permission and no history of complaints. -

960 Mt Lyall Rd. Might be an idea to join the vicherding group on yahoo groups. Schedules are available from there and will give locations for trials -

Just for info. The trial and tests on the 27 and 28th March are being held at Nyora and not KCC park -
The aussies i have found to be more like a collie than i expected. I find they settle around the house and laze quite happily but like to keep a check on you, but in contrast to a collie they will work willingly all day if its asked of them. Off lead they check in often. They are as adaptable as a collie, not much concerns them. They are generally dog freindly though they do play rough at times, lots of shoulder charging. I havent met Noah so no idea how would handle that. Though i have found my boy has learned the play behaviours of collie and weim and switches his style to suit whichever. Dare i say i dont think they learn as quick as a collie but neither do they get the 'why should i attitude'. Allowing for individual dog variations the exercise requirements are no more than you are expecting to do, indeed my boy goes on less throught he week, though he is obviously in the yard with two dogs all day when Im working. My boy is a one person only dog, he isnt concerned by other people and literally sees no need to seek them out. The boy i borrow is the opposite and very gregarious. Aussies can also be hit and miss with herding, but there are more out there in the herding arena so looking at lines is easier to predict than with the collies. aussie coat is way less work than the collie, and like a collie the dirt falls off. More agile and faster. Some can be vocal, mine is when playing, think it might be a working breed thing cos the weim is silent when he plays but collie and aussie are prone to yapping. Showing is competitive for aussies but i have found it freindly and helpful. Of the three breeds i have, contrary to my preconceptions about the energy levels of an aussie, the aussie is the easiest dog without the energy levels/strength/destructive capabilities of the weim and doesnt have the 'psychology' of a collie. Like you i will always have a collie but i suspect i will always have an aussie too .

that appears to be the theory, though i am told they have to have some reason. In my original i had one neighbour wouldnt agree or disagree, reason being they dont believe pets should be kept in residential areas, and mine attract strays. Other three agreed, i just would hate to see what happens if you reach the two out of two agreeing. Im a glass half empty kind of person though, so i find the whole things each year a bit disturbing, particualrly as i dont really have much to do with neighbours rest of year, and i know there are some problem barkers and perpetual strays around me that do cause issues.

hypothetically we were required to have the third dog prior to applying...stupid rule, and when i spoke to them i explained i wasnt prepared to do that, but i was able to state the breed and sex i was getting. I also had to have the reason i just explained i wanted to start a younger dog in dog sports as my current two were approaching older age. I think the idea is they want to see if you state you plan to breed lots of puppies, then the whole permit type changes. Be careful though i have now hit the yearly renewel problem......new neighbours arriving soon, so got to hope they are dog loving like the current ones...our council requires neighbour permission every year..though when i first applied i was told the renewel wouldnt require that and the only condition would be no complaints received by council

From experience, it took a box of 12 macadamias (assuming she didnt share) stolen from a cupboard to leave my collie rough (about 26kgs) virtually unable to walk for a around 12 hours without physically being lifted and propped up. Onset was around 12 hours after she ate them. No vomiting or other symtoms.

Thanks guys. Went with the fuji in some late night shopping, and yep remembered the card.
-
Anyone tried the fuji's? Looked up the pentax but the drop height isnt so good. This camera will be subjected to 'rough handling', laying in bottom of boats, snorkelling etc.
-
Just bumping this back up to see if anyone has anything else to add before i go buy one as a xmas present for someone, am tossing up the fuji or the olympus 6010, though jb hifi have a different olympus on special i think at the moment.

2010 Training/title/goals Wish List
dogdayz replied to Seita's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Beck; TSDX and CD Jovi; herding PT and T.CH. Get ready to compete in Novice obedience, try some showing through summer, and maybe start to dabble with some agility/jumping training. Skye; well she likes to believe she is retired, but maybe in the cold weather we will look at TSD -
Obedience Competitors
dogdayz replied to Staff'n'Toller's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Skye was a serial offender in novice stays, though not to interfere, just break position or walk to me. We seem to have fixed that now (though rest of it is broken now). Reason why she was in them, is she wasnt breaking in practice. Other dogs breaking generally one or two, though i would say only a minority interfered directly with another. Beck has never broken but has gone dead dog twice on really hot days. Having said that i rarely put him in the stays and wont if i know there is a problem dog there, case in point the other week i pulled him from afternoon stays as in morning trial a number of dogs had broken and physically interfered with others. Going back a few years he had a history of fear agression but have to say when other dogs have interfered with him (he seems to attract them) he has ignored (just looks at me pleadingly) and i do trust him in stays. I can understand people entering if like skye it appears to be trial specific fault, having said that a few owners need to be more considerate. I have had a dog stand over Beck growling at him. Beck didnt move. Judge/steward didnt move. And to add insult when i returned i didnt walk around beck and the other dog but opted to go direct to becks right side, fearing my pushing between them could inflame the situation, i got told off by judge, then other dogs owner told me its a good job my dog didnt react to his as she would have kicked his butt just like she did a rotties the previous week. I dropped obedience after that figuring it wasnt worth the potential grief. -
2009 Training/title Wish List
dogdayz replied to Ptolomy's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
We didnt make a plan for last year, only to settle new pup (jovi) into the household, and skye was retired from everything (her choice). In the end Beck got his TSD title, the new pup gained his HT and TD, and skye briefly came out for herding retirement to get her HSAs. Next year we plan to be a bit more active and get Beck his TSDX and hopefully novice (i just have to get brave), and Jovi well hopefully he might enjoy showing but his main aim are a second pass for his herding PT and Tracking Champion title, and hopefully ready to trial in obedience. -
Should add there is also a trial on the following tuesday evening (24th November...schedule in vicdog).
-
starts tomorrow. details are in this months vic dog. Will PM you the contact email. The 2009 Spring FOOs will be held on the following dates: 13, 20 & 27 October, and 10 & 17 November.

Superminty, Cash may have been naughtier than normal but Skye still put on the best entertainment. Skye did get another pass in started on sunday though to add to her saturday one, so we finished the weekend with our HSAs title. Jovi got pass at PT. So Ive had a good fortnight with my three, Beck the weim having gained his TSD the previous weekend in the Track and Search trials.
-
my collie always did the same act in the obedience ring, always looked like she was moments away from collapsing from exhaustion. Happy to report no such play acting from the weimaraner this weekend though and he gained his TSD title. He is so loving being back out tracking again.

Not much help but had similar issues with my weim despite doing all the leave alone stuff from day 1. The first was solved with very large bones and a treatball, but sounds like you tried that. The second occured as a result of ear pinches from check chains (leather slip collars are much better), afraid we did solve it but not really helpful to you. In our case we had two weeks crate rest due to an injury with only onlead walks....by day three he loved the sight of his lead and collar, and has never looked back.

My first brag (hopefully not my last) for the year, is my baby aussie boy gained his TD title at the weekend to add to his HT . he now gets a nice break and wait through to next season while he grows up a bit more. And i am now as he approaches his first birthday wondering were my sweet little puppy went, and this high jumping boofhead came from.

Keep trying Erny. I had problems with my boy from around 12weeks through to a year, watching him waste away while vet after vet went the same routine of tests to arrive at nothing. At one stage he was having 12 cups of science diet z/d a day and still losing weight, the vets at science diet said it must be something else than simply allergy, no dog should be eating that much, but still all i got told was feed him more. We went around many practices to ask for a second opinion (i learned from this never say it is for a 2nd opinion as they immediately ask what the other said and agree). We got told to give it up, for such a big dog his problems are too hard and feeding too expensive .....i told a freind and very experienced dog person this and she wrote down a name and number of another vet and sent us off to see him. We were diagnosed as we walked through the door, treatment started and never a hitch since then.

Im with Miranda, go see Ray or Barry.

The EPI test is generally accurate the issue with it is that the dog must be starved 12 hours prior. This proved impossible with my weim, and his test came back negative too, though he has now been successfully treated for around 5 years as EPI. While you may have starved your dog, the dog may not have starved itself, that is to say my boy was eating dirt and stones through hunger during the 12 hours and this would have raised him from his baseline reading. Without literally constant supervision for 12 hours we would never have achieved a true test reading. I cant comment on whether your dog has EPI or not, but I just wanted to check what you meant by giving creon an hour prior to meals, Im not sure how effective this would be or indeed whether it would harm the dogs stomach to be exposed to large amounts of enzyme with no food present. Our instructions are never to give without food, but I know some people presoak the food with enzymes is this what you mean?
