  1. I second that! My guys went NUTS for your dried sheep lung I've tried to find it here to no avail It would be an awesome treat to have in your pocket, & no slimy fingers!
  2. The lovely Willow came for a visit from Adelaide over the weekend & my boy, Roggie, was absolutely in with her. Two years ago, this little guy would have had no qualms about ripping her to shreds. Today, after much hard work implementing NILIF & TOT, the whole visit went off without a hitch, with only a couple of very minor growlings involving food. I'm so proud of him!!
  3. Bring proper footwear! I already know of one Queenslander who's gone to Sydney in the dead of winter wearing thongs Erny is well worth meeting, she's ace No, I have not been paid for this endorsement ;)
  4. I'll volunteer Roggie He's gotten really good at one on one situations & I can take him for walks now without too many incidents (thanks erny!!!), but since MrJames has gone to Adders, I've been a lazy cow with actively going to training on Sundays & therefore he hasn't been tested much in group situations. Erny, do you think something like this would be a positive for Rogs?
  5. In the simplest term possible: it's what turns your dog on
  6. Norm's Koolies in South Aussie! I'm definitely gonna go visit next time I'm in Adders http://www.southaustralia.com/9001107.aspx
  7. Great shot!!! the look on their faces "mum, now mum? Is it now? Can we eat now?"
  8. We got a Sqwuggie for Bella to train with, I just hook it up to the top of my arm with the little loop thing while I'm not using it
  9. Ohh! Me! Me! I can be de-socked or de-towelled! Gotta get my thinking hat on for ideas. Do you want the sock/towel to feature, or are there other tricks you'd prefer to have?
  10. Is it at KCC park? Can we come & watch & ?
  11. Shelly, you've got some great tips there! Can I threadjack for just a little second here, pretty please? What can you do if you've got 2 dogs waiting to come inside & one is the excitable kelpie jumping up against the glass, whining and carrying on, & the other is sitting nice & calmly? Should I wait until they're both calm or bodyblock the excitable dog to let the calm one through? Ta! ;)
  12. We're only trick newbies, so we do: Paw (shake) Hi 5 Show us your willy (or boobs in Bella's case) - which is roll over & My favourite: Clean up on aisle 5 - which is we've dropped food & need a doggy vacuum. They come barreling from wherever they are as soon as they hear a nice, melodic "clean up!"
  13. I second the long line You've shown a reliable recall in a low distraction environment, you need to adopt the same principles in a high distraction one & have the reward of coming to you be greater than whatever it is he's interested in (other dogs, smells etc).
  14. I feel your pain, I've tried over the last 18 months to get Bella to stop jumping, all to no avail I also get the jumping up on my back, & no matter how much I correct her & put her in a sit before I give her any attention, the next time I just have to do it all over again. It does get old after 18 months, that's for sure!
  15. OMG I've been the biggest slacker!!! I forgot to email you to be put on the list, Erny, will you ever forgive me?? (<-- um, that's me pleading )
  16. I'd pick Victoria simplyto see her training in leather pants I've already got my dream trainer (I'll stop crawling now )

Oh Horus, I'm so sorry you have to go through this
  18. OH is reading behind my shoulder & getting agitated...do you mean RAAF? He gets crotchety when people don't get it right He's got a good story of sending the newbies all around the base looking for a K9P form. Poor blokes get shunted from one office to the next until someone tells them to go down to the doggy squad & that they'd probably have some. Great sense of humour, ranks right up there with left handed screwdrivers
  19. Trying to appeal to the General forum to get people to side with you  You hurt my brain with your stupid.
  20. Oh lordie, I completely understand the unco thing! Took me ages to hone my lead-handling skills to a point where I wasn't fumbling with both hands & crying You shoulda seen me practise, it was rather ninja-style. In regards to postive qualities I have in training my dogs, I guess I'd say determination, an understanding that both my dogs might not respond to the same techniques or have the same drive, a desire to constantly want to improve my knowledge of doggy language, an understanding of the limits of my dogs current knowledge & abilities - this is particularly important when learning new commands & helps me not feel too frustrated if my dog doesn't get the command straight away. I feel it's really important to know that each of your dogs learn at a different rate, Roggie picks things up really quickly, whereas Bella will take a little longer. I'm still working on confidence & being a good leader, but little by little & day by day the bond between me & my dogs gets stronger for training with them. I also think that training has to be a somewhat constant exercise. By that, I mean that I feel it's useless to spend your 10 to 15 minutes a day doing quick training sessions with your dog if you're just going to let them walk all over you in the home - with our guys we sometimes have to do little refreshers around the house; like if they want to bustle through a door in front of us, they get recalled & put into a sit until we've passed the threshold of the door. For us, consistency is the key!
  21. Another Werribee person! Dayum, we're taking over the joint
  22. Yay! We rock! I hate the idea of blanket censorship on certain topics in forums. How are you supposed to fully educate yourself on something if only half the book is there?
