Nothing as yet. I've just put off going to see them again. They still haven't touched the fence. Stupid IMO. The guy is quite handy building wise too.

Story about 2 NZ men who shot up to 33 dogs after a dispue with a neighbour. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article....jectid=10631611

It would be easy to patch up from the other side. They have the posts/rails on their side. There's no reason why the fence could not have been patched up by now, none at all.
-
No, they bought the home. They've spent a small fortune on it.

I've found the opposite with my boy. He was a real pain. He'd pee on anything and everything. Every fence gate, door, post, washing machine.... After i had him desexed a few months back, there has been a big improvement in this. No doubt it's not an option for BL, but it did make a big improvement in my dogs case.

Nothing has been done to fix the gap, as yet. I did notice the pup heading back towards the same spot this morning and they had to call him back. He is up and about, just has no use of the front leg. I haven't let my dog out the front without supervision yet.
-
Rexiam, it's an expensive lesson. $800 for the pup about 5 weeks ago and now a vet bill in excess of $4000. They did refer to him as the golden boy.
-
Yes, it was BVSC. Brisbane Veterinary Specialist Centre, Albany Creek. They don't do general consults or any general veterinary care.
-
No, i've been putting it off. Still unsure which way to go. A week today since it happened. I saw the pup out today in it's yard having a walk around. He was dragging the front leg of course. I noticed them having to get him away from the fence this morning. If they're not careful, they might be up for another $4000.

It's also not possible to live in our community and not be aware that you must at all times supervise children in the presence of dogs. Both parties at fault. Both morons. Poor little kid, stupid parent. Poor dog, stupid owner.

if the pup has a broken bone.. it would take more than 3 weeks to heal. Do you think it would be bad if i stopped in at the vet ER and asked about the injury/cost ? Would they even give me any details ?? I wouldn't want the neighbours to know i went behind their back though. I don't really want to ask to view the bill direct from the neighbours.

Their property is fully fenced, if you include my side.

They've spoilt it rotten already with several beds and toys ect. I just don't know what to do, or to give now. Been thinking about it all day, as i told them i'd come back and see them this weekend. It wasn't West Chermside. It was at Albany Creek. The strange part is the owner said the pup will be back to his normal self in about 3 weeks. You'd think it would take longer with the type of injury the pup has.

Hi The original fence was a pine timber fence in bad condition, that was falling apart, which was on the neighbours property. At that time, the property was a rental and the guy who lived there had a GSD that would hit the fence and the palings would pop off. I went ahead and built my fence inside the boundary and paid for the lot. I didn't involve anyone else, just went ahead and built mine on my property. Not long after, the home was sold and the current owners removed what was left of the old pine fence. So i guess that was their decision to rip out the old fence. I don't know about the legal issues. Fence's seem to be a big problem between a lot of neighbours. I haven't had any dramas here, i think everyone around here enjoys the privacy.

The backyard is the same as the front sides. I built it for privacy and to safely secure large dogs, such as my Rotty's.

So many replies and good advice, but i can't quote and give my thoughts on them all. Just to clarify, the 13 week old pup suffered a clean break on the upper front leg, a couple breaks on the lower leg, some "lacerations"that are not known how they were caused. Possibly a couple minor puncture's, but again this is not clear either. Plus of course the x-rays, surgery and pain relief ect ect. The pup was there from Sunday night to Wednesday afternoon. They expect it to make a full recovery and be back to normal in several weeks. IMO if my 55 - 60kg rottweiler had attacked and bitten a 13 week old puppy, the injury to the leg would be different. There wasn't any blood. My dog wasn't growling, nor barking. I think the damage was caused from the force of the fence against the pups leg, plus any twisting that may have happened. In regards to the cost of the bill, i can only go by what i was told. i haven't seen the bill. I'd be very surprised if they weren't telling me the truth. The puppy was treated at a vet clinic at Albany Creek. I think it's also like an ER clinic too. Everyone i've spoken to about this has told me not to pay a cent. I already told them i would contribute, but i didn't mention a figure.

I built / paid for the fence before they had a dog. I paid for all the fences here. I never ask for money from neighbours. I get the fence i want that way. <<< That's the fence in question.
-
I was actually thinking $1000 plus, but not so sure now. I've already told them i'll come and see how he is over the weekend and contribute something.
-
I asked them about insurance and they were thinking about it, but don't have it at the moment.

There's a gap under the fence line. Neither myself or the neighbour was aware it existed. Nobody knows how it happened. Did my dog grab the other dogs leg and pull him under ? Did the pup stick it's leg under the fence ? I think if my dog was attacking the pup, there would be visible damage consistent with biting. I think it would've been a lot worse had my dog been serious. I don't think it's as clear cut that my dog is solely at fault. As i've said already, i plan on moving very soon, so keeping the peace is not important. Any money will be a goodwill gesture, nothing more.
-
Thankfully they are nice people and can see it was an unfortunate accident. They've admitted they should've taken more care watching him. They were both inside at the time. Seriously, getting legal advice over this would be rediculous.
-
Well there has turned out to be a vet bill, and a very substantial one at that. How long before good neighbours change their minds when they start to think of the money they have to pay. As a previous poster said I think you will find fences a very grey area. Can i ask how you come to the conclusion that i should foot the entire bill ? I don't think i have any responsibility to either. It's simply a nice gesture, nothing else. I'm also planning to sell here very soon, so keeping the peace doesn't even come into it.
-
They couldn't get quotes because it happened late Sunday afternoon and they had to go straight to the Vet ER and the injury was severe enough that they couldn't wait and take him anywhere else. I couldn't go over and hand over $100, i'd be embarassed. I know i don't have to pay anything, but i think i should contribute some.
-
You're entitled to your opinion, but i can't see your logic in thinking i should be up for the whole bill. Have you had a bad experience with a Rottweiler or large dog in the past ? Yes they were very nice about the whole situation. Really nice people. No, i asked them about insurance. They had thought about it, but the pup is only 13 weeks old and they hadn't got around to it.
-
It's not a gap/hole in the palings, there's a gap below that has been caused by either digging or erosion from all the rain. Lucky for me i have such nice neighbours. They didn't ask me to contribute, but i did say i would. That's how i see it. My dogs are secure and safe. I can't be responsible for everyone else. I feel bad for the pup, but it was an accident. Yes, over $4000 vet bill Thankfully my neighbours are nice people and can see it for what it is, an unfortunate accident.
