I found this and thought i might post it up. It's part 1 of a 5 series video on obedience training with Gary Jackson from Multi National K9. I've left my problem dog with GJ in the past, but didn't receive the results i wanted, but some might find these video's of his training methods helpful.

" Take The Guess-work Out Tour " Victoria

I asked the same question. This is from JayGee from my thread about the Pawman, sounds like it might help you......................................................... ............................................................ ...................................RottyLover, we did the trip in one straight drive, stopping every few hours to give Jeddah a break and we'd have a cuppa, probably took us roughly around 12 hours, that included a slightly longer break at Singleton for dinner. We stayed Madison's Mountain Retreat at Kurrajong, which is about five minutes from Steve. Great self-contained cabins and dog friendly. They do an enormous breakfast basket, and yes, the fireplace was wonderful. We saw Steve in late July, so it was pretty cold with our arrival being quite late at night, they had the fire already stoked and the cabin quite toasty on arrival. Enjoyed our stay so much, that I'm about to rebook for another stay in February for my niece's wedding! We drove down on the Thursday, did a session with Steve on Friday and Saturday, relaxed on the Sunday and headed back to Brisbane on the Monday. Pretty easy trip, and defintely of great benefit to Jeddah. You won't regret it. -
Who Would Be Your Dream Trainer?
RL1 replied to Lablover's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I thought someone would've picked Victoria Stilwell, or is she just a TV celebrity. I know my dream trainer wouldn't be from Queensland. -
Did you share the driving ? Which way did you go, are the roads ok down there ? Any advice or tips i'd appreciate. I wonder if it's better to drive through the night or the day. What do they charge for the cabins ? ......

I'd really like updates on how you go, so if this one is abandoned it'd be great if you could start a new one :D How do you delete a thread ? Or does it just stay and i start a new one ? I have spoken to Steve from K9 Force and it's up to me now to make a booking. I will start a new thread in the near future with an update on my Rotty.

That sounds like a great idea Hey! You guys getting greedy??? Steve's already up in QLD in the next few months, doing a workshop isn't he? Or is that Perth? Or somewhere else? You're kidding me, he's coming up here in the next few months ??? -

Good post really. What you've said is how i would be thinking if i was reading this thread about someone else. However it's really not the case. I can answer all your concerns. ( 1 ) All the trainers i've been to have a different idea on how to address the problem, be it the type of collar/lead to use or the reason the problem exists. ( 2 ) RE : Gary Jackson . I've since found out it's common for him to ask this. I see an ad in the Courier Mail on a regular basis wanting male Rotts and GS dogs, with the name Gary and a phone # for the exact area he's in. He asked me several time's upon pick up of the dog, that he wanted to buy him. It's all about making money and sending these dogs overseas. ( 3 ) I'm not new to owning and handling Rottweilers. The dog knows his place and has never tried to dominate me. It's when he's outside in public in unfamiliar surroundings that he doesn't listen and pulls on the lead ect, and wants to get to other dogs. It all relate's back to his original owners severe bashing and lack of socialisation given to the dog. ( 4 ) Only The Pawman suggested the dog wasn't suitable for a domestic environment ( 5 ) Neither the dog nor i am in a state of stress. The dog has a good life. I simply would like to be able to take him out more and do the normal things you do such as walking................. I'm not annoyed at your comments at all, just wanted to try and explain the situation...................................I agree with the earlier comments, maybe this thread should be closed, i'm sure everyone is sick of hearing about it.

Could not have put it any better..... Apparently i am negative and don't show any commitment to my dog. I've tried home visit's, travelled up north every single Sunday for months, tried live in training and tried The Pawman, who has 30 years experience. Not to mention the $$$ it's cost me. Now seriously thinking of a 25 hour round trip, taking time off work, losing money in the process and spending more money on my dog. If all that is negative and shows a lack of commitment then i guess i'm guilty.

Honestly i don't mind sharing everything. If i do go and see Steve at K9 Force i will post here exactly what i thought and how it went. He's free to post here his thoughts on myself and my dog....... It just annoys me a bit when people make out i haven't followed through with instructions or given it a go, such is the case with "carloslex" . I spent many Sunday mornings, every Sunday morning travelling north to Teamwork. The Pawman's opinion was he couldn't help my dog, so obviously that's as far as that went. I left the dog for over a week with Gary Jackson at Multi National K9. He was more interested in buying my Rotty....and DogTech, well, no comment on that one. Apart from DogTech, i have followed through and given it a go. I have spent more time and money than most people would. All that plus the comments about getting rid of the dog and PTS thrown in to complicate the situation more. I could've taken the easy way out, but i happen to like the dog and want to see an improvement.........It's like everything, there are mechanics and then there are good mechanics, there are builders and then there are good builders. The same applie's to dog trainers. The hasn't been thrown up just yet.
-
You might mean well, but i can't reply to anymore of your post's. I think you need to read some of my previous post's. I've made time, made the commitment and spent the money to try and sort him out, in between the recommendations of having him put down.
-
Is Erny connected with K9 Force ? I'll have a serious think about it. I just don't want to make a booking until i'm 100% sure i'm up for the drive. If i could fly down i would. Just don't know if that's possible with the dog. Anyway, i'll make a decision soon. No i haven't tried him.Not going to either. You get to a point where you say to yourself enough is enough. I had high hope's for The Pawman and after only having an initial assessment, it was a big let down. I thought that was it. What more can you do. I think after that i gave up for the rest of the year..........If i do go ahead and make the trip to K9 Force and don't get the results, i think i'll be throwing in the towel for good this time.
-
Yes that would be a nice way to end this thread wouldn't it. I'm confident too that you could help. I know you said you're taking bookings for April now, but I have 16 days off towards the end of march, do you have any available weekday appointments ? Or are you fully booked out including weekdays ?
-
You need to get your facts right before coming on a public forum and stating i've "publicly riduculed" any trainer. I haven't bad mouthed these trainers.
-
( 1 ) DogTech has more than one trainer, how do you know we saw the same trainer ? No, i didn't do three sessions with DogTech ............... ( 2 ) I saw the Pawman once, for an assessment, lasted about 20 - 30 minute's, in his opinion my dog isn't suitable for domestic, therefore that was as far as the visit went. Yes, he has a fantastic reputation, that's why i contacted him. .( 3 ) Yes TeamWork are lovely people. I never said the were behaviourist's. Yes, they also have a good reputation, that's why myself and my dog travelled up to Caboolture every Sunday morning............. It's a little bit odd to me that you have seen all the same trainers as i've mentioned, yet before you questioned how one could try so many different trainers without success.......Again, this is not about money. This is about improving my dog and learning how to handle him. I'm not interested in asking trainers for a refund.
-
Sorry, it was at club grounds, the trainers were TeamWork Dog Obedience. I don't have anything against Alex or Maureen, both very nice people, just didn't help my situation. That's a very generous offer, though i don't think i could accept it. Even if no progress was achieved, it's still my responsibility for all the cost's involved. Without getting into too much detail here, how many days do clients usually need to spend at your centre with similar problems my dog has ? I honestly believe he's not past the point of no return. I still haven't met a trainer who has given the both of us a fair go. I think there's two reason's. They think he's in the too hard basket or they simply don't have the experience to deal with it. One trainer did tell me he admired me for taking him on........
-
no i haven't, i did send him an email but i haven't progressed further as yet that's true No progress i'm afraid, i've sort of taken a break after seeing The Pawman last year. I was seriously thinking about the trip late last year but obviously you were fully booked out and also i didn't want to make a booking unless i was 100% sure i would make the trip. No problem with owner compliance here. I've done everything the trainers have told me, except the PTS one. Yes, i've tried home visits, a club and even left the dog for over a week for live in training.( Four trainers all up ) I even gave up my only morning off, and took him up to a club at Caboolture every Sunday morning. The Pawman is a RAAF trainer with 30 years experience, i'm not going to try another one..................... I've been thinking lately about getting back into it and trying one more time. A lot of people here have recommended Jane Harper, I don't know, might be worth a shot.......... Can someone convince K9 Force to move to Queensland ??.......
-
Dog owners at the end of their tether will cover a few kilometres to pay a visit to Steve. We did the trip from Brisbane! Fortunately for us Jeddah loves a long car ride. She's was better than travelling with our kids when they were younger. JayGee, How long was the trip from Brisbane ? and how was the accommodation in the area ?
-
I dealt with the Pawman a couple months ago and wasn't impressed. However my dogs problem is more involved than the one you describe. Other's have dealt with him and said he was great and solved the problem.
-
Sometime's knowing there is a problem is as clear as mud, but getting that expert help can be the hardest part.
-
That's shocking, i've often thought about the what if's with mine but i am now cutting them back to 2 marrow's a week. I stopped in at Vet Products Direct today and got a whole heap of toys for them including a Kong Solid ball, Kong Dental, Kong Stuff-a-ball, Kong XXL Black extreme, Kong stuff-n-paste, an Aussie Dog Ball and a big tug of war rope.......If they don't like all that they can go jump !......That place is a lot cheaper than any pet shop i've been to.
-
Buy online at Vet-n-pet direct, a lot cheaper than any petshop.

I can tell you that i feel like a "sucker" thinking about the $$$ i've handed over to "expert" dog trainers without success , though my dogs needs/training is totally different to yours...... ......... ( still waiting on my promised written full report from "The Pawman" from a month or so ago :shakehead: )
