  1. Erny, what type of collar would you suggest ? I want something strong, that won't break under strain. .......... Thanks to everyone for the input, seems the longer leash is the way to go.
  2. Why is that 4 Paws ? Why do you prefer the longer leash ?
  3. I'm looking at buying a good quality leather leash for my dog, one that won't snap, either 4ft or 6ft, but not sure which size. Is there any advantage/disadvantage on the length of the leash ? The dog is a Rottweiler, who pulls hard when walking. I would've thought the 4ft would give you more control, but i've been advised to go with the 6ft. Anyone have any thoughts on which would be better.
  4. Is this confirmed yet by K9 Force ? Or is it just a maybe ? and what does it involve ?? Where do i find the info about this event ?
  5. Will there be any private consults ? Before or after this date ?
  6. I took on a rescue male Rotty at approx. 3 years old. I already had two female Rotts ( approx 3 and 6 ) and the boy fitted in well from day one, not a single incident and this male rescue dog had been bashed severely. It can work out fine sometime's, but it's always a gamble. Also i'm single, so no kids had to be taken into consideration.
  7. Without knowing your dog, but knowing mine already, that would be a success.
  8. K9: RL, you have a private lesson booked down here unless I am mistaken, by the workshop I might be using your boy as a demo of a good dog.... My motto is "EXPECT RESULTS" Dont forget the K9 ism "the impossible we do at once, miracles take a little longer"... Yes i have booked and paid, but i'd prefer to avoid the 28 hour round trip at all cost's. Will you be doing any private appointments when you're up here ?.......and i do expect some result's, just not a miracle. I'm realistic now with my dog.
  9. My dream would include a demonstration on how to handle and walk my dog in public around other dogs. I think general handling of my dog, but most people prob. have that covered already. Is there a workshop for problem dogs ?...Do you need a dog for demo ? I might have a good one...
  10. Ok thanks, where can i find out more info on this ? Is there another thread or something ?
  11. I was hoping if he did come up here in the near future he might do some private appointments. I've already booked and paid for a package, but i'd prefer to avoid the long trip if possible, even if it meant losing out on what i've already paid. This will be the last straw with any dog training, so i hope it has a positive outcome. I've even copped abuse for making the decision to take the dog down to NSW. You can't win with some people............by the way, good luck with the seminar :D That's very interesting. What month do you think it might be ? and what venue are you looking at ?
  12. I wish you and Steve from K9 would do a workshop up here.
  13. TeamWork Dog Obedience. They run classes at Caboolture, Redcliffe and Carseldine. Alex and Maureen are both very friendly people to speak to. http://www.teamworkdogs.com/
  14. I'm working that out now, i have a couple of available date's given to me as i requested. I'm trying to arrange for my brother to share the driving but both date's clash with his interstate and overseas business. I'll get down there some how.
  15. IMO, "No" to each of the above, RL01. With one that I worked with, results were inhibited due to the 'nature' of the dog at the time (eg. lack of confidence). I had a separate word in that instance so that the owner could work that up, which would enhance the other behaviour modification exercise demonstrated. Good trainers know that frustration will not help, only harm. And understanding the dog at a deeper level ..... usually I don't get frustrated with the dog. If there is any frustration, it would be with myself and not while I am working with the dog. But I don't tend to feel frustrated. If something isn't working I just need to think it out and alter something or change tack completely. Ok, so you would say you as a trainer need patience, or is it more so the owner needs patience and persistence ? It will be interesting to see what happens when i visit K9 Force. I think my dog will try and "test" out Steve the trainer. Others in the past didn't persist. Maybe it's not entirely the dogs fault, nobody has really ever shown me how to handle a dog like mine.
  16. Were there any dogs during the course that tested either trainer ? Do trainers ever get frustrated with a dog ?
  17. My dog fits that description perfectly. I'll ask about one when i'm at K9 Force later this year.
  18. Ok then, there's my answer.. I still wouldn't be convinced without seeing one being used first hand on my own dog.
  19. I'm curious about this prong collar. It might be of use for my male Rottweiler who like's to walk me. I'd like to know what Steve from K9 Force thinks of them.
  20. I will have an update on this dog later in the year.
  21. Thanks all. Tonymc, your last paragraph was interesting. I can see some of what you're saying that relate's to my problem dog.
  22. Can someone explain in simple terms what a dog's drive is ? I've been told my dog has very high drive and i've heard some breeds have a high prey drive. After reading the other thread about a workshop in drive, what exactly does an owner/dog do at a workshop about drive ?

What a beautiful, proud looking boy. Life isn't always fair and can be cruel.
