My Rotts fine as far as i know. She's never had any major ops. Never had any broken bones or done a cruciate like so many seem to. Tomorrow is really only minor procedures, but it does require her to be knocked out which was a bit of a concern. The breeder doesn't agree with what i'm doing, but we don't agree on everything. I'll ask for the blood test when i drop her off.

You sound like the breeder. She thinks it's wrong what i'm doing. No, i don't know the risks for any breed. The vet has told me the risk is very low. Apart from having a bit extra weight, she is healthy. I might ask for the blood test as an extra precaution. I've only been using this vet for about 12 months, but i have more confidence in her compared to the previous vet. When i was at the vets last week, she was talking about a sedation and if there were any signs of problems that she wouldn't proceed with the GA.

My 9 and a bit year old Rott is booked in to go under tomorrow at the local vet, but her breeder thinks it's a bad idea to put her through this at her age. I know there's a risk with every operation/anesthesia, but surely it's rare for a dog to die while under. The procedure she's having done is not for a life threatening condition, more so cosmetic and for my benefit. What precautions can you take ? I don't think there are any other than not to have the procedure. Is it wrong to put an older dog under anesthesia for a non life threatening op ?

I missed out on the Hydrobath on Ebay. It sold for $1650, which is crazy when a new one of the exact brand/type is $1780. Some people get too carried away.
-
Yes , a single tank is cheaper. F/glass, Davey pump, $1780.
-
Yes !! Bloody hell i can't believe it myself. I have Rott hair ending up in places of the house that the dogs don't even go near.
-
I'm not too concerned about the pump. I'm an electrician so i can repair/replace if i need to. Also the new hydrobath only has a 3 month warranty on the heater.

Hey BD.. Got a price from Mavlab today. The cheapest Hydrobath is $1898. You can buy the exact same bath from retail places for $100 less, yet Mavlab is the manufacturer !..

Firstly, i take offence at the handyman remark. I know what you're saying. I already have one of those FIDO bath tubs. I have in the past ran a hose for hot and cold from the washing machine outside and washed them that way. I just think the Hydrobath would work better. I have the ideal spot for it. Power there and it's undercover. I wouldn't really go the dryer option, i just use a couple towels. It's a bit too feminine to get out a dryer for the Rotts. Appreciate the advice.

Yes i saw that one, but i don't want to spend $3000. I only need a basic model.
-
Forgot to add before.....The same company builds the FIDO and the more expensive Conmurra range.

Hi Baby Dragon http://www.oohlalapetspa.com.au/?page=212&list_cat=156 This store is at Mackay, QLD, but i've emailed the manufacturer here in Brisbane for a price. I'll post here when i receive the details.

Thanks Mystiq. The cheapest i found on the web today is a fiberglass FIDO, single tank with heating for $1760. That's for the base model. It's about another $220 for twin tanks, which i don't need. I also found a few others ranging from $2500 to $3000. Or i could go second hand through ebay or similar. My current Hydrobath "Lady" charges $30 in total to come out and do the two Rottweilers. Fairly basic service. Quick brush, check the ears and into the bath.

Can someone tell me how much a single tub, heated Hydrobath costs ? I'm thinking about buying one for my dogs, but every site i've looked at tonight doesn't list any price. Any recommendations on stores would be appreciated as well. Thanks.

Poor old girl. I bet she had a fun 17 years.

Too Much Socialisation, should dogs socialise or not .............. I did have three Rottweilers, i only have two now, but my current female ( 9 years old now ) was socialised from an early age ( 3 months ) at the local dog park and she is the best natured, easy going, gets along with any other breed/size dog she meets. When i had the three rotts, i could take both my females to the dog park at anytime and let them off lead with any size dogs, from a Bullmastiff to a toy poodle and not have a problem.

Poor kitty. Such a shame for oldies to go out this way.

Sounds familiar this. I live next door to the JRT from hell, who barks non stop Monday to Friday. He has also escaped out of his yard into mine, which could be a big problem. This must be a breed that needs a lot of mental stimulation or can't cope on their own.

Another recommendation for K9 Force from me too. He was the only trainer out of about 5 or 6 that knew what he was talking about concerning my dog with aggression ( and didn't recommend getting rid of the dog ). No miracles here, but a definite improvement in handling the dog.

Poor girl. R.I.P

What a beautiful Rotty. Far too young to leave the world.
-
What a stunning girl. Such a shame, poor girl.
-
What a lovely old girl.

Both my dogs have beautiful white teeth. They both chew raw bones 5 days/week.
