  1. How inspiring wait til I show mstr 12 tomorrow. He will have Jakey boy working hard
  2. Welcome Our nearly 3 yr old JRT (see my siggy) has graduated advanced beginners at obedience with my 12 yr old son. He sailed through beginners now has sailed through advance and is going to intermediate. He only started classes 2 terms ago and gradudated both. He is a wonderful little pet who enjoys chilling on the couch with the family or running all day round the ponds and fields. Fantastic little all round dogs
  3. It sounds like you both had a great night (was this at K9??) - Well done and keep up the good work Thank you, yes it was up at K9 Ptolomy, that drop was great! Poor Beans!
  4. Yay! We all graduated obedience advanced begginers last night. My son and his JRT came 5th out of about 13 with 90 points which is very good, he is only 12 yrs old :D and Rosie and I came 3rd We lost points because she wouldnt retrieve ;) (she is a golden retriever who retrievers everything all the time ;) ) I think we also lost a point because I said drop twice which was my mistake not hers. Also, I have taught her to sit as soon as I stop, so instead of standing to command, she sat (because I had stopped) then stood ;) Anyhow Im very proud of her, she got 95 points, 2nd place got 96 and 1st place got 97 so it was very close
  5. Yep, I am not so keen if snakes are a concern I will be at Riverside this weekend as always ..... probably fairly early though 9 - 9.30ish. Do you go to riverside every sat morning? kids tball starts on 9th oct but hopefully i should be free (not this one ) one of the weekends! Rosie would love a run and splash
  6. I am sad I soo wanted to come then realised that my youngest has his rugby presentation at 10.30 am ! As if you have it at that time of day Rosie would love to run and play with the dogs, especially seeing as Ella is coming too next time.......... ;)
  7. my GR is very soft and forgiving. wonderful with the children and basically all she wants from life is to be around the family. Not on top of us, but involved at least. She also brings presents, usually shoes or teddies Oh and she smiles and eats Eta- spelling
  8. The chat is the best bit about Monday nights and it was great to meet you, your mum and the kids. Maybe we need to stick all the kids names in a hat and that who we take into Rally. That would make life VERY interesting. Nope no drool my clothes - WHEW I like that idea! I think we all wanna pull a red kid's name outta the hat It's good experience handling other people's dogs ;) vCBR, you can put one of my ratbags through rally next week if you want. They won't work as great as the red kids but I would be interested to see if they work for you! They're anybodies if you have treats I would love to see Mason worked by an experienced handler :p him and I are like the blind leading the blind we both have no clue. I must maybe take a drive to K9 one monday, I need some inspiration Hi all------When you say K9, do you mean Canine Assoc, or really another place called K9 ? :D
  9. Aww congrats GR. puppy cuddles, :D Rosie is 1yr in a fortnight so puppy breath is long gone but puppy brain lingers........ Hi everyone I always forget about this thread *note to self* - "come in and say Hi, very often!"
  10. Yup, Southern River 7 pm MOndays. As said above, we dont train on school hols and if you havent enrolled you cant just join a class. The next enrolments are probably the first Monday BACK at school term - whenever that is. Term run for 10 weeks usually, Next Monday is week 4, then 2 week break then enrolments. COme and join, bring your immunisation cert at 6.30 on whatever Monday I have described above (Could be 6th Oct), to enrol. You will find everyone is really friendly and welcoming
  11. I would love to come but have jnr sport on sat and sun mornings for the time being!!
  12. Mine sleep indoors (at night ) in the laundry on a blanket. Through the day they are outside in a run. I wouldnt dream of telling anyone else where their dogs should sleep
  13. This is a comment from left left if ever there was one! Who has suggested that responsible pet ownership and good conditions for companion animals is not occurring?
  14. This is probably the best comment on here so far. Everyone has given their opinions, preferences and dislikes, so perhaps it only right that we respect the OPs preferences, dislikes and opinions... OP sounds sensible to me, most dogs are inny and outy dogs. The only advice I would give to help with toilet training, (which is the advice asked for) is perhaps set up a crate on the verandah, this will create a cave effect, also will keep pup warmer and will help in toilet training as they rarely mess in their crates (in my experience). I used to set my alarm for every couple of hours for a toilet trun in the very early days, then stretch the time out. Mine didnt take very long at all - in a couple of weeks they were going right through the night Dogs on human beds in un-natural in my opinion, so who's to say my opinion is right and others who believe that a dog should be indoors is right? A dog is a dog, much loved or not, it is a dog....
  15. Ha ha yes Ellie is our first dog. Unfortunately, she really belongs to my adult son so she sort of lives between us. She is 3 1/2 and gawjus :p She is back with us now for the time being as he is too Here she is I told you she likes her comfort...... Rosie and I will try to come to the next meet I promise *off she goes to perth social calendar to check next meeting*
  16. Mines a 3 and 1/2 year old cross breed mastiff, but read my free to good home thread ;) :p She's a great guard dog, makes a hell of alot of noise........trying to get in the house safely beside me
  17. 3 and 1/2 year old mastiff reason....... crying and whinging all bloody night until we eventuially gave in and found that she was upset becasue her bed had scrunched up and she couldnt straighten it Straightened her bed and .....bingo......loud contented snores ;) The big ones really are the sooky ones :p
  18. I go googoo at all dogs but my firm faves are goldies and JRTs - (smooth haired) I also love the mastiff but will probably never own one
  19. JRT:) We have one for our boys and he has a great time with them. He is small enough to handle but big enough personality for anyone. Ideal choice of dog for young boys. ETA my 12 yr old does obedience training with him and they graduated the beginners class last night  They do all kinds of tricks together and learned Hi 5 last night within 5 mins
  20. I agree with this, I dont have a problem as my dogs live with kids so are very relaxed around kids. My trainer tells my group that if you want your dog to be a sociable member of the community you need to do the hard work with the dog. Borrow some kids for a training session or even get the kids who know how to behave to 'not behave', all the while reassuring and rewarding the dog for not reacting. If she isnt at this stage yet, I would be seeking one on one behavioural and muzzling the dog in public. If she bites someone, you can be sure the kids wont be getting the blame ETA I hope this doent come across as me condoning kids running up to strange dogs, I am not at all, I just know that we are never going to stop EVERY kid so therefore we have to prepare our dogs.
  21. ;) no words required........
  22. Firstly, Tokkie, what a beautiful dog Delee, I agree, In the past Ive had some negative experiences as dog owner, the more im learning now I also learning just how purely enjoyable life with a good dog can be. Cannibalgoldfish aww I m sure we've all felt like that at some point. I still do when something Im trying to do, just doesnt fall into place. The dogs I have right now are very well suited to each other and I SEEM to be doing ok with them :D I do have children - primary aged ones - who need me lots - and and older one - who does need me but doesnt admit it ;) , but I still adore my dogs and love the way they greet me and sit outside the toilet door for me ;) Ita a standing joke in our family, if anyone in the house is looking for either dog or me, they know we'll probably all be in the same room so find one of us and you'll probably find all of us:o My kids will always take priority and are my #1 but my dogs make me have my own special feelings for them too ;) When jake just looks at me as though I am .. I dunno, God... I just feel so much for him. He is probably the most loyal little dog I have ever met. I owe him that back. WHen Rosie runs in and so happy to see me, (even if she has a potato peeling in her mouth ) that her body is bent double and she 'smiles' I melt..... .........I cant even tell her off for bringing me the potato peeling :p
  23. I dont actually fully recall my initial contact with my breeder I rang her about a year prior to the mating and asked about the breed and in particular the two dogs she was putting together. I think I did ask a rough price on this occasion and the breeder said she would be mating the dogs later but advised me to go along to shows etc and ring back in a few months. When I rang her a few months later, I re introduced myself and reminded her that I had spoken to her approx 8 months earlier. I later found out that that was the key...I had done what she asked, gone away , researched, then come back. I hadnt just gone to the next breeder or pet shop or BYB. We spoke and she asked me to send an email telling her a little about our family, home and lives in general. She emailed me back almost immediately saying if there was a pup available I would get one. Lucky for me, the mum had about 10 So I got one I dont think price was mentioned in any of the follow up correspondence, just the initial phone call. I needed to know a rough idea so I could save, prepare etc and obviously it didnt put my breeder off, however, she did make sure i was genuine by asking me to do what she did.
