  1. I wonder how breeders manage ? They go to shows regularly and have pups at home? Who vets how many unvaccinated dogs have been on the grounds before the shows?
  2. Wow, thats a good site, Im still trawling through it! Im struggling because I like human names but cant possibly single any out.....Nell, Ruby, Meg are all names I like, but I also like the idea of carrying on the F theme, although Im not dead set on this yet. ;) I always thought 'Finn' was a male name, but Ive found its also an female Irish variant name
  3. I assume it's a girl? Fay, Faith, Flip... Sorry, yes shes a girl. no none of them have me going "Yes yes yes" as nice as they are!
  4. Or another "M" name? If were doing names, can you suggest some for a JRT, I like Nell but Im having second thoughts. OUr BC is called 'Fly', the pups mum is 'fanny' and her dad (coincidentally) is 'Fly' :rofl I was going to stick with the 'F' theme but none I really like have jumped at me.. Any ideas??
  5. ooh good point! I didnt thinnk about this!. Does this mean no obedience or agilty for the older dog until the younger one is 12 weeks? Im getting my pup in 2 weeks and while I know my pup wont be going out, I certainly didnt think about limiting Flys activities! He is going to be demented!! 3 weeks of having to train in the back garden, I can see an agility run being set up in the backyard Thanks for raising this! If this were the case though, wouldnt you ahve to limit the older dogs activities prior to pup coming home as he might pick up something before hand?? I think Ill ask my breeder
  6. All great advice:) I would recommend Carolyn Reads 'train a pup time'. She is in forrestfield but is well worth 20 min travel
  7. Hi im sure most of you are aware of our very sad losing of Jakey. well, after 6 months of thinking, talking and debating as a family, we have decided to commit to a JRT pup. She comes home in 3 weeks and her name will probably be Nell
  8. Aww Wilbur is beautiful. We bring Nell the JRT home in 3 weeks
  9. Its so sad. Jake (in my siggy) has been gone 5months and it doesnt get any easier. He was only 3yrs old and my 13 yo sons best mate and we dont know how he died. He was just gone in the garden one day:( We bought Fly partly to play with Jake but they only had 6 weeks together. Fly is now 8 months old and very spoiled and loved each and every day. Hugs to all of us mourning our buddies. Jake was my heart dog.
  10. When you use the baking soda ( I assume this is the same as carb soda) do you sprinkle it on dry then vacuum it up or make a liquid out of it.??? Good question, Ill await a reply too ;)
  11. Waiting for our JRT girl. She was born on 14th June Our beloved JRT passed in February. The pup will come home 6 mo after he left us:(
  12. Hi :0 is there anywhere I can buy 'tiny' bags of dog food? or get free samples? My pup doesnt seem to like his biscuits and I want to try something else but without buying a full bag which even the small ones cost $30! Once i find one he likes of course I will buy it, but dont want to buy 4 or 5 until I find one he likes... ETA more detail :D he is 7 months old and has always had the one premium food, plus bones, chicken, rice vegies etc. He is not showing an interest in his kibbke until he has not eaten for at least a full day, then he will eat it. I assuming he doesnt like it and prefers his bones and chicken, but he may just not be hungry...hhmmmm, thoughts thoughts He is usually fed twice daily, is it time to cut him back to one perhaps and alternate the kibble with raw on a 24 hour cycle rather than morning and night?

    Whippet

We have a BC, and we are thinking about adding another dog to the family at some point and are just researching and reading the different breeds, we want a small or medium dog, easy coat, energy to run and play but also chill out. Whippet came to mind first. My older son (13)is very good with dogs, (training wise) but mstr 8 hasnt had a dog of his own yet, he is turning 9 at the end of the year so were just researching now. It will primarily be his buddy to hang out with but it will need to have manners etc. he May also try obedience or agilty but I dont know if he would stick at it like mstr 13. thank you for your replies

Hi Are these a breed that a 9 yr old boy could easily handle and train? (With suppport from adults of course)
  16. SO none of you have EVER walked your dog off leash in parkland? (possibly off leash parkland, it doesnt stipulate) Maybe he should have had better control but HELLO, the guy was carrying a knife, who knows, maybe the dog saved the owner from a more brutal attack? Normal evryday citizens dont carry knives, he was up to no good...
  17. Our 6 month Bc does a few tricks. Get tissue. Ring a bell to open door for toilet. Pick keys up. Most tricks started with a target touch stick and a clicker. I have the book 101 dog tricks, it's great fun.
  18. Hi Does anyone know if theres a flyball club In WA? ETA I just realised my dog is called Fly, he loves tennis balls = FLYBALL Forget it is friday and Im bored at work
  19. My parents 12 yo dog regularly comes to stay here. She is deaf as a post and partly blind but she seems to like coming here. She knows us and our house well and adores the kids and appears comfortable. Saying that, I don't think she would cope with a kennel situation. Each situation is different, do you have someone your dog knows well?
