  1. Don't worry, your luck will run out sooner or later. ;) What do you do. Clip it right back. When they complain about it being short, you tell them that you worked with what you had, if they bring the dog back in good condition just wait until you see what I can do with it then. Remind them it is all up to how they take care of the coat in between visits. If they don't bother to look after the coat, you can not give it a fluffy look - again point it all back to what they do in between visits. They hate it when you turn it all around on working with what your given. Then you get all the but... but... but. Just when you think you have heard them all, you get another one. One that keeps popping up is usually blaming Mum, Nanna or a neighbour looked after "Fluffy" for 2 weeks. Well straight face time again - good luck. We all know that was not done in 2 weeks. Then if you ask how long ago, it could have been anything from a couple of months ago.
  2. Bugger of a situation to be in. If it were me, I would try to get in contact with your parents. If that is not possible then I am sure that I would sadly pts. They knew before they went away that he is old and knew that he will not last for ever. Personally I will not put an old dog through that surgery, to me it is not fair. Since he has heart murmur then he may not make it anyway. I really don't think they would mind you making the final decision for them, I would say it is one they may have been put off before they went away. Even if he did have surgery and he makes it through, he will require medication for the rest of his life, that's ok, but it may only be a very short time afterwards anyway. He will need time to recover from a painful surgery, pain that I personally could not put and old pet through. I am glad that I am not in your situation, only you can make this decision if you can not get in touch with your parent before the decision is made for you. Is the little fellow in pain? Did you talk about what should be done if anything happened while they were away. That is what I ask before I agree to look after anyones pets, it is nice to know what they would like to do in case something does go wrong. Would they mind coming home to a hefty vet bill and no old dog. You said that you don't mind paying for the vet bill, but I am sure your parents would not leave it with you, l know my parents would agree that putting him to sleep would have been the better option. Do you know what your parents would prefer you to do? I have an elderly Maltese with a heart murmur, I would not put him through surgery, his next needle will be his last.
  3. Then there are the ones who live in fantasy land. You don't have to be a Vet to know when a dog is in serious bad health. I have had a few who I have harped - pleaded and begged to take the dog to the vet knowing it was sick. Each time they brought it back to be groomed it would look worse. Still no vet care. I had 2 that come to mind last year, yeah, yeah, will go to the vet. Ok, ok, I understand he/she needs a vet. I said my own good bye's more than once to both of these poor old dogs each time they went home. Then I get the phone calls letting me know that the dear old soles had passed away peacefully in his/her sleep. That is was shits me too. I know that no way the poor old soles died in peace, they suffered terribly and the owners were too tight or stupid to do the right thing and PAY the vet to put the dogs to sleep. It was obvious that both people were not short of a quid, only had to look at the way they dressed and the cars that they drove, it was they were too tight to spend the money. I understand that some simply can not stand the thought of losing the pet so live in their own world thinking all is well> I understand their thinking more for the inside companion who is loved and cared for, but the ones that are only around to eat the scraps and give it a pat once in a while, I don't get. I have no idea why many people have pets at all when it seems they don't really want them anyway. No wonder why I prefer animals to people, not hard to see why. Sorry to run off track
  4. My old groomer has taken photos of some dogs she's had brought in and sent them to the RSPCA. The matted jobs usually. So have I but I don't bother sending them into the RSPCA. Last year I rang twice about a dog locked in a car on a hot day in the city. But when I rang them back the next day I was told that they did not check it. My OH rang me so I knew that the dog was in the car from 8.30am until after 6.30pm. because he saw it. The window was down a bit but we all know it would have been an oven. I do not if the dog was walked within that time but I do know that the RSPCA did not check it out - they told me that.
  5. I have thought of that too, but anyone who knows the state that those people allow their dogs to get in would already know the truth, especially if they are dog owners themselves. I have had several people bad mouth many groomers, once they go on about that I tell them that I am not interested, knowing that they have gone though so many groomers is a wake up call what they are really like anyway and I would just be another one on their hit list. You can't please them all. I have knocked back some, you get a feel early on that they are more high maintenance than their dogs. I have told a lady that I would not be able to do what she wanted, she was asking for something that I could not possibly do with her dog, so I was very nice and said so. She was shocked, walked away stunned. She had a Bichon Frise hair do herself, I was not going to have a hope in hell getting that look for the dog with the coat that it had. Try keeping a straight face when trying to be nice about that
  6. I hear ya. ;) I have lost the odd client or so simply because I will not be blamed for the state their dog(s) come to me in. I will tell them that I have no option than to clip it really short because of heavy matting. When told that I am supposed to be a groomer so groom it - hmm think boiling kettle and your close. I will not take that from anyone. I have told them to go to someone else and they will be told the exact same thing. If they complain about my price then I tell them to ring**** mobile knowing that they are $10 - $20 dearer than me especially when the dog is matted. Then they can see just how reasonable my prices are -they come back. I have seen some dogs in the most horrid condition that I have to hold back from vomiting while trying to get the shit off the dog, so far I have been lucky and not found maggots, I am sure that day will come. I have been told that these "little fluffy dogs always get matted - that's just what happens" Oh yes, I do agree that is true, they do get matted, but there is no excuse for it. It cost you nothing to brush the dog yourself to avoid matting the coat, or bring it in before it gets to this point. So there is no need for it to happen. If they do not like the truth that is not my fault. How some people can look me in the eye and tell me that they love their dog so much, the dog is everything to them, etc, etc, and who are obviously not short of the $$ then I have no time for their bull s**t. I will say what I think, I don't care. When people are genuine, I will tell them that it is ok, your here now, lets just sort this out, once he /she is all clipped off you will never know. I will treat people the way they treat me. I had a golden x poodle (you know the one - long story here) that was heavily matted, had to go right back. The "breeder" told her that they NEVER need to be groomed, so they didn't. She would get in the shower with it and give it a jolly good scrub. um well you just can't do that with a poodle coat. I had told her to stop this twice before and the next time she brings in her OH. You guessed it, he hated what I did to the dog and I said to him that I am glad that he came to me this time, hopefully we can get this sorted out. So instead of him going on at me, he got stuck into her about what she was doing to the coat after she was told not to. That dog had also the worst untreated ear problems that he had been scratching them so badly that he had formed blood clotting on both ear flaps. As soon as I touched them they bled like stink. Well I almost hit the floor, it took forever to stop the bleeding. When they picked him up he was very short all over, ears too. I had no choice than to clip his ears back as I could not put pressure of pulling the mats out of the ears. That B***h tried to blame me. I told her to go to the vet and the vet will tell her the same thing that i did. Reminding her that had she gone to the vet when the dog was in obvious pain this would never have happened in the first place. I was as nice as I could be but will not be blamed for their lack of care. Thankfully most clients are fantastic, but when you get the wrong one it will stuff up the whole day. Some days I need more than just a cuppa, for this reason I don't drink any more, otherwise I think I would be pissed almost every day. ;)
  7. Pandii, so sorry to hear that you lost keeto. Take care.
  8. I have the Ultraforce MK2. I got it about 5 + yrs ago. It is great to use in the warmer months as it is not heated. It does blow warm air as the motor warms up. It is a bit powerful for the smaller dogs but fantastic to use on the big hairy ones. I would never part with it even though I don't use it all the time. I use the Melbourne Dog Center twin motor drier on a daily basis. Basically forced air dryers are the same, and a twin motor Double K Airmax is the same as a twin motor Liberty or MDC,and the main difference is the price. MDC dryers are over priced and the servicing charges are excessive. Do your homework on dryers as the price and quality vary greatly. I have worked in the past servicing all brands and the motors in the Liberty, Double K, MDC and most others are the same. I had the Melbourne Dog Center drier rebuilt last year. It was $650 to replace both motors. I did think about getting anew one but decided to get it fixed because it is a great drier. That repair is cost is excessive. The motors have a cost price of approximately $70 each and it would take approximately 1 hour to replace them. A cost of $250 would cover parts and labor not $650. Shop around and get quotes before getting repairs. It was in the winter last year so I needed the heated drier fast. I almost had a fit and thought about getting a different drier. Any suggestions for repairs in the SE Vic if it happens again. I would hate to pay that again after reading it would have only been $250. I hate being told how much I got ripped off, but at the same time, I should have known better. That is a bloody lot of grooming to pay for the repairs. I am in the wrong job for sure.

  12. WOW, that was so fast. I love it. Thank you so much Harminee. Now the next problem, how do I get it to the siggy? My daughter did the Rotties with the waggly stumps. ed: Well I did have 3 Rotties with waggly stumps, they got lost trying to put the siggy there.
  13. OOOhhh Any chance of someone able to do a siggy with my piccs. I have chosen a few, so if they are ok, I would really appreciate a siggy too. Lizzy Piper & Lizzy Abby & Maddy Piper & Lizzy I hope these will be ok.
  14. I have been using Groomers Edge "Tangles Away" from Double K now for quite a while on my dogs and clients dogs. I love this stuff. Just spray it on dry or after a bath and towel dried, then dry it with the drier. I love the feel and the smell like coconut afterwards. My clients just rave about it for weeks after they have been groomed.
  15. I have had my Liberty twin tank for just over 5 yrs now and I love it. The rise tank is huge, no need to refill to rinse. I have washed and rinsed Newfoundlands with my bath and don't need to refill the rinse tank unless they were VERY dirty to begin with or badly covered in fleas. You will be able to rinse both your greyhounds with the one tank, no problems. I have one adult Rottweiler and 2 pups that are just about 6 mths old. I can wash both the pups in the one bath saving on water and the rinse tank still has enough water in it to rinse my smaller dogs if I wash them too. I have not had a problem with this bath, I do rinse them well. I have seen other brands too. Some only have 2 small water tanks, not allowing enough water to rinse very good. (sort of like 2 wash water tanks). The one from the Melbourne Dog Center is also a beauty as it also has a huge rinse tank. If you have hot water avail you could save heaps on the bath without heat. Give them a ring at Liberty they will explain the difference and talk to you about what bath will suit your needs best. Pm me for their phone number if you like. When I need to replace my bath I will be going back to Liberty. I have been asked if I have shares with Liberty as I recommend them all the time when the Question of "Which Bath" comes up. No I don't but boy oh boy I wish I did....
  16. R.I.P. Zed. So sorry, :D Heather. It's never easy to say good bye especially when they are still so young. Thinking of you.

  18. Can't help with the makers. But I think it would be worth asking any hydrobath makers in your area if they would be able to fix it for you first. You should be able to get most parts from Bunnings. For the door you could get clear perspex cut to fit. A plumber would be able to put it all together for you if your OH can't. Good luck, what a bargain.
  19. April 4 will be the 3rd anniversary that we had to pts our beautiful Jasmine at 12 yrs old. She was a GSD x Scotch Collie. She suffered with arthritis due to being hit by a car when she was only 2 rs old. (house was broken into and she was let out - lost for almost 3 months). anyway she had what the vet called a "bad reaction" to Rimadyl. I'd say that was an understatement, she went into kidney failure and was bleeding, she was lethargic and went down hill in less than 2 weeks. This was a real heart breaker, as she was a very beautiful loyal girl. I gave her the medication so always blamed myself for killing her. I had since learned that Rimadyl does have a very high death rate. Labradors in particular. Would I use it again. No. I had our little Maltese at the vet to have his teeth cleaned and a tooth removed. He came home with Rimadyl and antibiotics, I could not give the Rimadyl to him. He lived on our laps and got extra cuddles for his pain management. This was only 4 months after losing our old girl. Much too soon and still very raw. Just could not use the same medication again. If placed in that situation again, no idea what I would do. I have known many dogs to go down hill fast on this stuff, Metacam too.
  20. I have raised my Rottie pups on VaN and Barf, they look fantastic. I also know of a GSD breeder who is on her 7th generation litter on raw diet, last few years on VaN. I have a friend who is weaning her Rottie pups on this too.

    Kiesha

RIP Kiesha run free. Oh Bluepoppy, I am so sorry that you lost Keisha. You did the hardest thing you could have and know that it was the right time for her. I don't know what to say other than I am think of you and your family, knowing how painful this has been saying good bye to a loved one. May she run free with her new and old friends until the day you are all reunited once more. Kiesha is at rest now. You did all that was possible giving her a wonderful life, right up till the end.
  22. Got to admit this is a great idea. It is going to be much easier keeping up with everyones sick dogs without risking asking something that has already been answered. Sending healing vibes to Sophie, Kiesha, Zed, Bailey and Sinna. Hoping you all have had better days today.
  23. Maybe you can get it cheaper direct from the factory, however as a distributor I find it strange that your able to get access to it cheaper than I can. Not happy Jan...I will be looking in to this. Thanks for the heads up. Someone is WA said that they pay $72 for a box of 4. I also think that is $10 too much.... I will be checking up on prices, this all seems a bit strange to me.
  24. That was an awesome post,thank-you very much. I personally prefer Tom Lonsdales approach to raw feeding, very easy and affordable. That said,I did buy a box of Dr B's BARF patties a couple of months ago and my dog loves them, especially if I give them to him straight out of the freezer on a hot day.I don't feel that the patties are even all that expensive,I got a box of 48 patties for $48,so for someone wanting a convenient, healthy alternative to tinned food or kibble, and is too scared to feed raw meaty bones, these are a good option. Are you sure about that price, because that is less than what I pay wholesale for it.. I would be interested in where you are from. I should be getting it from your supplier.
