  1. Thanks for posting this link - I think even I should be able to tackle this job. Have bookmarked this link for when I am ready to give it a go. Any chance of posting your pics that you have made so far. Thanks again. :D
  2. Velvet soap was once used regularly as a wormer for dogs. I know many people who used to give a small amount of Velvet soap (size of a 10 c piece) to working farm dogs as thier only method for worming. Don't think I would be too worried about dogs eating soap today - but with all the varieties around now - not sure.
  3. I don't think that we need to rub the age of the pup leaving home in to the OP any more - can't change what has happened. She came here after advice and hopefully she has received the advice she needs to help a tiny puppy thrive. Plenty of pups do great when for what ever reason when they have had a crappy start in life. Plenty of pups are raised as orphans or singletons - not an ideal start in life but they can go on to live very healthy lives. In my situation last year - I had a litter of Rottweiler pups born a week early - resulting in most of them dying. They were born half the size they should have been and the 3 who survived are doing fantastic - thanks to some bloody wonderful advice that I received from many wonderful people on DOL. So this little puppy is tiny - with propper care she has a much better chance of surviving - she obviously never received very good care before she left her mother so leaving early may well have saved her life. Luckily for this pup she has her litter brother for company. Stick around Michelle - you will get a lot of help here and you will learn so much to help you raise your little puppy. Check out the training section later on when your ready, you will find a lot of helpful information there too. Good luck and I hope all goes well.
  4. Hey Erny - things are looking brighter for Mandella, hope he continues to improve. No worries with the milk I have heaps of freezer space here so don't worry about it. Just glad that I was able to help out in some small way. lol about the garage though, but it is for a good cause. Once you start filling your new freezer up you will be after another one. One freezer just ins't enough I have 1 commercial and 3 domestic freezers. You ought to see what I bring home when the specials are good.
  5. Oh they are very cute - but can't help but think they should be with their mum still. Hope she is much better in the morning.
  6. I bought the accessories box as well and I prefer the cordless version as you don't have to get tangles in the cord. I do like the look of the extention you have, although the unit I bought is just like a really fat pencil and not very noisy at all. http://www.dremel.com/en-au/Tools/Pages/To...um-ion+Cordless Happy dremelling Hey tyra - snazzy hand sized Dremel you have there, could be tempted to get one of those if I "need" another one. eta: Handy link that you posted - I see they have a few new products that could come in handy.
  7. Was that for the Pedi Paws?? I saw them at pet stores in the US for only $20. I was tempted to get one, but am glad i didn't if they are so bad. Are the dremels actually made for doing dog nails or is it a hardware tool? According to the instruction book it can be used for heaps of projects around the house. Ingraving, cutting, sanding and polishing, ect - aimed at small projects - craft ideas. I have use it to cut out holes in 20 ltr shampoo containers for chook laying boxes, worked great. They are also used by nail technicians for artificial nails - that is where I got the idea of using the extension with the unit. I have seen the pedi paws for around $15 - it is junk.
  8. I bought the extras to go with it. To buy the drums separate was around $10 each but the blue box with all the attachments was only $40 so I go that instead. Also got the extension so I am not holding the unit while using grinding the dogs nails. Not sure how much that was but certainly is worth it. Like holding a fat pencil.
  9. I think you will find it is a breed thing - most pugs I know drink a fair bit of water regardless of their diet. Heaps more on warmer days. Just make sure you have extra water bowls around and you should be right. I have clam shells under trees or under the trampoline so I never run out of water.
  10. Yep - that's the enemy - she will always have build up if she stays on canned food. Any reason she can't have bones? Many people won't give pugs bones - you ought to see what my 21 mth old pug - Lizzy is capable of eating. Because fat / marrow with give her an attack of pancreatitias straight away and then she will be sick for two weeks. My mum has got hold of a Brisket Bone that apparantly has No marrow and the butcher is going to trim the fat, do u know if digesting the actual bone would harm her pancreas? No - can't say I am of any help once diet issues are there, I have been very lucky in the past and have never had any pets that don't tollerate what mother nature intended - regardless of the animals. I grew up on a farm and never even knew of the majority of health issues that I see these days. Hopefully someone who does will answer this for you.

  12. Sorry can't help with artificial cleaning aids for dogs teeth, my dogs clean their own teeth every day while eating bones.
  13. How much are fillings and capping? I know that normal dental including cleaning and removal is up to $400. The filling was done the same time as the scale/clean and a removal, all up was around $200 - $300 not sure it was a while ago, was an elderly 3.5 kg maltese. The capped tooth was only last yr on a 10 m/o Rottie pup and was $800 - was a canine tooth - cost included the follow up 3 mths later. The Rottie was rehomed and her new owners had this done, being a pet I probably would have had the tooth removed, but they wanted her to have a perfect smile. I am always worried about the capped tooth - would hate for it to break off, but David assured us that the tooth would last longer than the dog. Told him I should get him to re do my capped tooth - mine only lasted a few yrs and needs redoing and I wasn't eating a lamb neck when it broke. eta: just noticed in another thread about teeth and looks like I said the bill for the above maltese was around $300 - $400 - so I don't know now but it did seem cheap enough at the time. The filling was actually a "gel" or somthing that was squeezed in to the tooth to try to save it - probably not a true filling. As I said was a long time ago so not real sure about the filling part. Hope that makes some sense.
  14. Dr David Clarke from Hallam, he is fantastic. I have had 2 dogs go to him for dental including scale/clean, removal and filling as well as a capped tooth and I have been very happy with him. I would never go to anyone else for any dental work again. I have sent many clients his way and all have been very happy with him too.
  15. Wow Erny, that was a lot to take in. Hopefully you will see some changes real soon. I forgot about the bi carb soda, we used that with a pup last yr, *note to self - make notes for future reference* . I took Maddy ( she is the one you helped me with last yr) to Carols and she did her thing with her, amazing what she told me, she mixed up a concoction for Maddy - I called it "Maddy's happy drops". What ever was in it did help her. She also helped us with our elderly Maltese a while back - what she said about him was really amazing. Fingers crossed for my little girl Erny, the fall she had at the dog pool may be worse than I first thought, she is booked in to see Ray Ferguson on Monday for a 2nd vet opinion. Carol did some manipulation on her and she is moving a bit better for now, she showed me how / where to massage her as well. I will be taking her back for regular adjustments. Goes to show no matter how careful you are accidents can happen so easily.
  16. what a sight he must be.... I am a fan of the Wahl KM2's - usually have 2 sets on the go and a 3rd set as back up - just in case. Have killed one set already and have another 3 sets put aside to be serviced - hope my clipper man can keep them going. Also have a set of Oster that have only been lightly used, put back in box as I just don't like the feel of them. Can't remember what the outcome on the cordless was but think most were recommending the corded clippers. (ed: sp )
  17. A friend bought one last week, I tried it out and thought it was absolutely useless. We tried it on a swf and could not do anything. By the time it took to do one paw we could have done about 10 dogs using nail clippers. She took it back. I think she said it was $15. Exact same product as what that link was selling for $80 + p/h. Got to admit when I saw them advertised I thought it sounded great and was looking forward to testing it out - very disappointed with it. I have a dremel and after seeing the difference I would not bother with the cheap versions at all. Love the dremel - worth paying the extra for it.
  18. All depends on what food is being fed..
  19. Erny - how did you go with Carol? I am off to Carol's now with Pink.
  20. Erny - sounds great, glad you called Carol. I am sure she will be able to shine a light on what is going on with your boy. I will be contacting her soon about my girl, since she has been injured I am hoping that she will be able to mix a little something up to help with her healing. Keeping a 5 1/2 mo Rottie pup calm and resting is not as easy as I hoped it would be. At least I know what happened to Pink, just hope that she can help. Please keep us updated. Lisa.
  21. Fantastic - loved it - very clever. Thanks for posting it.
  22. Heck! That's a lot of goat's milk to use!! I've had it down from the freezer but in the fridge for a full 24 hours. It hasn't fully defrosted, but should be by tomorrow. So, I have to use it all up over tomorrow and the next day? I've only used about a quarter of the bottle so far. I have to build up the courage to taste it myself. I'm a whimp when it comes to that. I was the same when we first started getting the real cow's milk from next door's. Mum had to pour it into normal milk bottles and pretend it was shop bought. After that I was fine. It will stay icy in the fridge so will be fine longer than the 3 days. Add some strawberry and chocolate flavouring to it - chocberry goats milk. Yuummm. Then tell yourself it came from a cow.
