  1. Fountain Gate never had them - I got one in Cranbourne and they only have 2 more left. Anaconda had the sides but were out of stock, will be getting more in soon. Think I will get sand bags for it too so it won't blow away.
  2. Thanks TnS, knew someone would have seen them around or tried it, was tempting though but will stick with the Oztrail then.
  3. As above - anyone got one of these if so are they any good? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/3x3-m-Folding-Outdo...#ht_8093wt_1139
  4. Looks like I am in for an expensive week....
  5. Thanks for letting us know. I was looking at getting set last year and I am getting a large set from a DOLer. I will be getting a small set very soon, nice to know that you will do repairs if necessary.
  6. I just bought a cheap bum bag today from the reject shop for $4, looks ok.
  7. I guess while many love them there will always be those who don't - I suppose as long as care is taken they should be ok.
  8. Just do yourself a favour and don't mention them in the Pug forum...I was nearly lynched for saying that I use them in there! Thanks ellz - but I have a feeling they would know by now

  10. Thanks weisnjac, I will give him a call. Fantastic pics TeamSnag - if you boys little legs can stand on them my pug should be able to do it - she is almost 12 weeks old. He looks fantastic. Thanks
  11. Thanks Sammy - so they don't mind being on them? I was looking at them when Pink was small but she managed ok, however think these would be pretty good to get Charli started being so small and wiggle bum. Any stockists in Melbourne?
  12. As per title - I am looking at starting my pug pup on the show stackers. Any recommendations welcome.. I just missed out on the set advertised on DOL. http://showstackers.com/ Any one sell these in Vic?
  13. Try "Freecycle" for a free kennel or the recycling places. A couple of yrs ago I picked up a barrel type kennel with a peak roof for only $10 still solid but too small for my adult rotties, but perfect for when we have pups. Or check the local papers for a second hand kennel. I also got some "damaged" kennels a few months back for heavily reduced prices and they were only slightly cracked in one corner, when set up you would never know.
  14. looks like I will see you there Danois - the .22 was my choice too.
  15. While I am at it - a couple of years ago I bred rabbits for the dogs - had about 30 ready for the kill but could not do the deed. I gave most away, lost some in the summer heatwave and did get someone to kill some for me. As it turned out my dogs did not like rabbit. I still have one of the males here, he is a beautiful rabbit and at 4 yrs old he is in perfect health. So Moselle don't be too concerned about me going around killing animals purely for the pleasure of it because I just can't do it. Or I should say while I do NOT have to - I won't.
  16. I found your post to be contradictory. You are saying that your father hated the killing so he used to hire a butcher yet by the same token you are saying that you have watched him slit the throat of sheep ????? And I must say that I find it apalling that your father would allow you (as a kid) to shoot animals!!! UM -yes. He used to kill them but hated doing it so paid someone else to do it. I really didn't think that was too hard to understand. As I said, I grew up on a farm - my parents still have it. Do you think it is better for the animal who is in pain - mauled by a pack of dogs - to suffer for several hours until he was home to do it himself. Moselle - I really think that you have lived a charmed sheltered life and should not be so quick to judge others and be so appalled by what is considered humane. ed: sp?
  17. As a female who grew up on a farm I have seen many animals killed either to end their pain or to be eaten. I have shot a few animals too if Dad was not home to do it when I was only a kid. I have respect for anyone who can end the life of an animal to end pain or for food - no sane person will get enjoyment out of doing it - nasty job but a reality. A quick kill is just that - fast and effective they are none the wiser. I have watched my father slit the throats of sheep - it is not nice and he used to send us away when we were young while they were being done. Sometimes we would spend a weekend cutting and bagging meat for the freezer. My father hated the killing part of it so we used to hire a butcher friend to come and do the butchering and boning to make it easier. He had a portable cool room which easily held 6 sheep so that is what we would kill. Our freezer was massive, but most of our meat was bought from the local butchers because my father hated killing stock. But nothing tasted better than one of our own home grown sheep and I suppose now would not be a good time to say once I bought my mother a pig for mothers day, the following year he filled the freezer...yummm. I guess for some as long as the meat is not presented on the plate with eyes looking at you then it makes it ok to eat it.... ETA: Nekhbet, my father had ferrets when we were very young, they never bit us kids but Dad got a few bites, great little workers.
  18. Why has it taken me till now to really read this thread - priceless
  19. Yep eta: Cowanbree - love what you do, happy situation for all, oldies have loving companion and when the time comes they can no longer care for the dog, family not put out and the dog is returned. This is what I would be interested doing with one of mine.
  20. I did a cav cross poodle the other week, that was quite likely worse than that one. She was blind, from the hair growing over her eyes, here ears were stuck to her head, her tail to her body and her urine and poo, well you can imagine the rest. 3 hours it took just to free her from her coat and yep, her owners purchased her because she would be non shedding and laid back. They got a mongrel of a coat to groom and a hpyer pup, that became a hyper dog and then got chucked in the back yard. I did another poodle cross today - after 2 yrs they are not so in love with this poor bloody dog, not as bad as the one I posted earlier but close. I know several owners who have bought poodle crosses that have been told all sorts of crap just for a sale - best ones are that they don't shed or need much grooming - priceless...I see them come in all very excited about their new puppy "insert breed here" only to be told that they are a cross bred poodle and will require heaps of grooming. If they don't believe me at first they soon learn the hard way - or should I say - the poor bloody dog is the one who suffers.... I have seen quite a few cavie x poodles and they all vary in size from small to medium. One of the biggest that I used to groom was the size of a beagle and it had a real crappy temperament - looked most like a cavie on steriods with a bit of poodle thrown in.
  21. Samantha - 10 weeks ago my pug had her 2nd litter (1st litter everything was perfect) unfortunately this time the 1st pup had a big head and she could not deliver naturally, if I had have known within business hours that she would require a c section we would have gone in then - however that wasn't how it worked out. We had to go to the emergency clinic and had to pay HALF before they would even take her in and the balance when collecting her. 3 pups delivered but the only surviver was the pup with the bloody big head who was stuck. He was handraised because unfortunately mum didn't want much to do with him - feeding a puppy round the clock every 2-3 hours might sound ok but after a few weeks without help it soon became bloody hard work. It was not smooth sailing, mum was digging the bed constantly exposing him the heat pad that dehydrated him so bad I thought he would not make it - at almost 2 weeks old she squashed him - he was gasping for air, pooing and weeing and vomiting as well as a bit flat - that happened in the time it took me to wash his bottle after feeding him - luckily I checked on him so soon or he would have been dead. But that was not all...at almost 4 weeks old he had aspiration pneumonia, vet thinks this was from being over fed, he is a piggy pup, feeds like he has never had enough so it thought that the food (milk) came back up and went down the wrong way...1st vet visit vet gave him a 50/50 chance of survival, he had daily injections of AB's and anti inflams for one week, he was still not over it and by the 2nd week he looked as though he might make it. Meals were kept small and often and a 2nd week of daily injections of AB's and anti inflams....in the 2 weeks he still managed to gain 165g and was finally over it. This one puppy has been harder to raise than what my 6 day premature rottweiler litter 2 yrs ago was. Since he had so many problems I kept him longer and was vaccinated and chipped at 9 1/2 weeks old. As I have both large and small breeds I can tell you that the after hours emergency c section bill is the same for Pug as what it is for a Rottweiler...try $2200....(depends on the area you live) So allowing for not only the costs associated to raising this pup there is also the loss of income from not working for the 1st month and very limited work for 2 weeks the pup was ill I stopped adding up costs in raising this pup when it reached around $4000. While he is a lovely boy he isn't what I call good enough for me to go on with so is will be leaving next week to the most wonderful lady who has seen all the highs and lows of raising Maverick. Now ask yourself if you breed your over sized bitch if things don't go as well as you hope for what are you going to do if it turns to shit....and believe me - it can.....if I were you I would be telling those who want you to breed your over sized bitch to go and buy a puppy from a registered breeder, much cheaper and easier for you..
  22. Tell her all about grooming or this is what she will have to look forward to. Now the weather is warming up this is what I am getting a lot of. Not a cav x poodle but it is a poodle x ?? who is quite over sized and very timid.
  23. Sammy - I would be booking in for a C section too - one puppy will most likely be a big pup and as mentioned above she may not labour naturally anyway. I have heard several people lose the pup with single litters so would not risk waiting to see. Good luck..
  24. Well I must have been a right knob years ago when I used to put Muffin (3.5kg Maltese) in a basket on the front of the bike or even in a backpack when we used to take Jasmine (GSD x Collie Rough) for walks. He wanted to go, had a ball but his tiny little legs could only run so far, so in to the basket or backpack he went. His little head would stick out of the backpack and everyone who saw him had to give him a pat, thought it was a hoot but at least he wasn't left behind. Lizzy (pug) can't keep up with the Rotties so she only goes on the little walks or stays behind.
