  1. she is hoping to have him here asap, will be calling dogtainers back again tomorrow to try to sort it out. Will let her know about these options too. ETA - manners :D - Thanks
  2. One of my daughters friends was expecting to pick up a young BC male today from the A/P - unfortunately Dogtainers stuffed up - no dog. The dog is in Taree, they sent a small crate to pick him up but was far too small - they said she gave them the wrong info, they were some how expecting a 12 w/o - 8 kg pup - the dog is a 8 m/o and 20 kgs. Now they are saying that there is only one man there and he can't lift more than 15 kgs. I feel bad because I gave her the contact details to dogtainers and jetpets and I was not expecting this sort of drama. Any ideas on how to get this sorted out and the dog to SE Vic?
  3. Yes - 3 out of 4 litters have been emergency c sections - 2 were after hours at the em clinic....very expensive indeed. I am not in any hurry for my next litter. eta: both bitches (2 litters each) are now retired from breeding.
  4. Its really worth having him done properly - nothing beats a hydrobath and turbo dry. I am pretty slack with my own dogs but when they are moulting bad they can be in the tub weekly until they are under control, then back to when ever.
  5. He sounds like he has a thick double coat and I would bet he is exactly like the one I have here. Lizzy is a shocker, with 3 rotties in the house there is just as much fawn hair that gets swept up as there is black. We all get hay fever in this house - I have been much worse since having Lizzy but thinking back when I was younger I have had hay fever most of my life. I remember when I was doing stock work in the spring I had to take the calamine lotion with me in the saddle bags and looked a real treat. Not only was I affected by my horse but the pollens from the grass that was stirred up so much while the sheep were running through it and the sheep too. I agree with having blood work done though before rehoming just in case there is something else going on - but I am betting the problem is his thick double coat which is normal for him. Keep him off the bedding, furniture and vacuum every day. Regular grooming is a must too.
  6. The only things that have a reasonable life span here are plastic bottles, thick rope toys, Aussie dog bungie chook and a horse ball that is slowly dying a miserable prolonged death, but still the all time favorite. http://www.ozpetshop.com.au/product_info.p...roducts_id/1437 Next one I get will be from ebay - twice the price in horseland http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Tug-N-Toss-Jolly-Ba...9#ht_500wt_1156 Oh and the latest favorites are the deer antlers from Sway.
  7. No I don't but boy it would have been nice to have in the past - then again, I suppose the fees will be very high considering the risks involved in breeding. Would probably be better off with a separate account that collects interest until it is needed. Figure it will be another 12 - 18 months before my next litter so would have plenty in the kitty before then.
  8. I have seen the black pyramid matting at Bunnings, Cocker food bowls from most pet shops or over the internet. http://au.shopping.com/spaniel%20bowl/prod...nkin_id-8024509 Matting also at clark rubber (scroll down) http://www.clarkrubber.com.au/matting-and-...er-matting.html http://www.matting.com.au/mats/mat_runners..._runner_935.htm
  9. Thanks for the info - might be able to help with a male Rottie, he is very laid back - was used for a group of kids doing an animal course and didn't mind the extra attention or procedures being done at all. Depends on timing, but should be ok. Is this a one of trial per dog or do you need the dog back again during Dec - early 2011?
  10. When do you need them and how long would it be for?
  11. Agree. I'm not trying to promote oodles but my MSx poodles coat is MUCH easier to care for than my pure MS's coat. She has knots if she isn't brushed every second day. I never need to brush him between grooms and he doesn't knot at all. I don't agree with oodle breeders making claims about easy to care for coats, just as I don't agree with generalisations that oodle coats are somehow harder to manage than any long coat. This pic is of an "oodle" - their Malt x Shih Tzu is never in the state that this one gets in but it does get matted. It took about 3 hours to finish this dog, the matting was close to the skin all over as you can see. It was literally mm/cm at a time over her whole body making sure I didn't cut her. - but getting started was the hardest part of all. Poodles x Goldens / Labs / Cockers..... can have thick coats and they are very hard on the clippers and blades making them blunt much faster than doing other coats. No idea how many pairs of scissors that have been ruined by cutting through matted thick coats - not cheapies either.. eta: another photo.
  12. bugger - hope my little gazebo stands up to it - better find some stronger ropes and weights and hope for the best.
  13. Then maybe that is the best way to do it. Find out for yourself why and see what the other dogs look like....best way to compare him to others when so many in one place at the same time. Ask owners for opinions (only if your game enough for the answer). Nothing mentioned here means anything anyway so go and show the dog and see what happens for yourself.
  14. Just wanted to add to the above - is she wont accept him then be prepared for many sleepless nights. I went through this a few months back with Lizzy, she was ok at first but didn't really want to be a mum this time so I had to take over or we were going to lose him. I have posted this link before but will again because it is too good not to keep sharing. http://leerburg.com/bottlefeeding.htm Good luck with.
  15. Kirty - I think most people are not concerned about muzzled greyhounds, it is nice seeing them without muzzles in the public. I have used a gentle leader on a Rottie before and heard "stay away from that nasty dog - it's got a muzzle on". Funny thing is I don't have to say much - her under 10 yo said it better than I could - "It's not a muzzle and not all dogs are mean". I had a giggle and told the kid he is spot on and reassured his mother that her son was right and my dog is not nasty. She got huffy and walked off.
  16. It's a shame that Koolies are NOT recognized by the ANKC. Beautiful dogs. :D
  17. I had 2 Rotties done earlier this year and it was about $480 for both.
  18. It is the number that you are registered with them. 1st 3 letters of your surname and 3 numbers.
  19. If they are too lazy to remove the sign long after the pups are gone is an indication that perhaps they are too lazy to look after the dogs adequately...besides which...would you want to be hassled by people dropping by wanting to buy a pup when you no longer have any? or is it convenient for the simple reason that their name can be jotted down in preparation for the very next litter which may be just around the corner? Wow, that's an assumption if I've ever heard one. I am too lazy sometimes to make vacuum my floors, does that mean in your eyes I am too lazy to look after my dogs adequately. :p Again, your idea of 'people dropping by and hassling to buy a pup' is an assumption in two ways - 1. that is a hassle and 2. that people drop by in sufficient numbers. I had a website, it was available 24/7 and available to far more people than a roadside sign. I wasn't drowning in email enquiries. I did receive quite a good number, but I liked this as it afforded me a waiting list. Thses people might also work via a waiting list. Who knows, as I said, everything your are saying is illogical or an assumption based on your predjudice. Can't win either way - some people might leave adds or signs out too long and not get any enquiries or be flooded with them. I am only listed on DOL in the breeder section and had to write "no puppies available and no planned litters in the near future" - to me that says I do not have puppies and won't have any for a very long time but for some reason I get calls and emails almost weekly after puppies. I feel like asking what part of NO PUPPIES and NO PLANNED LITTERS IN THE NEAR FUTURE is not in english???
  20. From past experience I call the muscle man before the vet if my dogs pull up sore and he will tell me to go to the vet for xrays if he he can't work it out. I have to take my mob for a visit soon they are long over due.
  21. run your fingers through it and you will feel the bone - don't cook it.
  22. A couple of years ago I was selling Wombaroo Milk replacer (had too much) - got several emails from a woman in USA who wanted to send it to her daughter in some foreign country. She was annoying and tried to reassure me she was a serious buyer but when I gave her the company details and told her to contact them directly because they might already supply it O/S she never contacted me again. Just a scam - not worth it. Also when I was selling my dog wash trailer I was contacted by someone O/S who was more than generous with their offer and were going to send someone here to pick "the item up" - never bothered to say it was - just kept referring to the trailer as "the item". Delete is the best option. Pisses me off more when they refer to puppies as items...again - delete and forget it.
  23. Doesn't matter - I got the Oztrail from HS in Cranbourne - they only have 2 left.
