  1. edited: I bought these ones last night for $39.95. http://www.rivers.com.au/catalogdb/blowupp...22228&PS=23 and they are very comfortable. VERY close to others listed for only $15 so will go and check them out.
  2. Must admit- I did wonder if this might be the case , being rural .... those things are deadly! Hope the poor little thing has had her injuries treated in case of infection. There are wide blades for dogs - I don't have any, I am happy with standard blades but they look to be the same size as shearing blades. They are only recommend for large dogs, not small dogs. http://www.clipperworld.com.au/shop/index....p;productId=151 Good luck.
  3. Check out the recycling center at the rubbish tips, the best kennel we have had over the yrs was made from a fruit pallet and cost only $10, it was huge and lasted a good 10 + yrs. I also bought a medium metal drum kennel with metal roof for $15. Last yr I bought 3 huge plastic kennels for my Rotties for their runs and are very well protected from the elements. They have metal frame beds in summer and the kennels are stored in the shed until they need them. There is a plastic kennel down the side of the house for the pugs and one in the garden bed. Plastic kennels are fine as long as they are protected from the weather and if your after a wooden kennel look around for the heavier better made kennels. I was going to get a wooden kennel for my male Rottie when he came back home because he was an outside dog, but due to the hassle of delivery and extra expense at the time I opted for the plastic kennel. I then bought the other 2 heavily reduced due to a small crack in the rear of the lid, once set up you would never know. All matching and look great and protected from the weather. All my dogs sleep inside at night (including the male since he is now house trained) and the kennels are only used during the day. Check out the recycling places and papers if your just after a cheap kennel, plastic is fine as long as it is protected from the weather - then again I prefer all kennels to be placed in protected positions and not just in the open. We have hard rubbish in our area now and there is always kennels being thrown out - keep an eye out you might be lucky.
  4. Yep - this.... And I have done some very matted dogs in the past and not one cut on them. There is NO excuse for this dog to be cut up - none. If the dog was difficult then STOP and explain to the owner why the job was not finished. I have only had 2 dogs that I was not able to finish - I would much rather them take the dog to the vet to be sedated than injure or stress it. Any chance you can get photos?
  5. I think it is a lovely idea - I usually send an email or facebook greeting for birthdays but unfortunately I have lost contact with a couple of pups I bred due to them moving and one who refuses to tell me where the dog has gone. If I was to hear back from one of my breeders now I would be stunned, she never replied to my emails so I stopped sending them, but the others have become wonderful friends. It's one thing to remind owners that you would love to be kept up to date with their progress but unfortunately for many reasons this is not always possible. Be thrilled when you do but not too disappointed when you don't. ETA : if this was the first contact in many years though I would be wondering what the catch is. Nice to be in touch again but "what's the real reason" kind of thing.
  6. Depends on what is in the contract. I would agree to keeping only those to be shown registered to me and place the others in pet homes on limited rego and desex contract, but I would not agree to early desexing due to my personal beliefs that they need to mature before desexing. I would have to know exactly what else is in the small print including the future of the pups from that mating I keep - some breeders want control over them too. Then there is the list of breeders who are never to have access to some lines. Some just want too much control so it is better to walk away.
  7. Sorry - no such breed.
  8. Yep - throw them away and get new ones, much better and easier too. I use my old nail clippers in the garden - great for cutting small branches and perfect for cutting lemons from the lemon tree.
  9. I use Wahl clippers and have some wahl blades but have mostly oster blades, nothing against the wahl - I just prefer the oster blades.
  10. Go Away, it is called stalking OT for a minute......... How is this stalking????? :D We are all entitled to comment in a thread and I really don't get your Stalking comment Laneka??? Now to get back on topic. I don't have a problem with those who choose to show a bitch in season, that is the owners choice, there are no rules that say you can't and I am one for following the rules so I see no reason not to. Of course the owner needs to show a little consideration and keep the bitch away from other dogs. Each to their own I think. Stolzseinrotts - I post one comment in this thread (now 2) which is much the same as other posters yet I am called a stalker. Perhaps I am not supposed to post in any threads where she has - who knows - who cares or perhaps I hit a nerve... How ever at the risk of being called a stalker (or worse) again I would like to ask Laneka how many times in her "over 40 yrs of being an exhibitor and breeder" has she shown a bitch in season and what consideration did she give the males and their handlers? I won't ask the other one though.
  11. Have my fingers crossed for you too - will be waiting for good new ;)
  12. Go Away, it is called stalking These topics come up all the time.
  13. While showing a bitch in season may cause problems for some at least it is not against the rules. I have a 2 1/2 yo Rottweiler who has not been shown yet, nor has he been used at stud but he sure as hell knows why god gave him balls. He lives with girls and tells me one month before they come in season and lets me know when they are spot on. He is a gem of a dog to live with, has the most fantastic nature but put a bitch in season near him and he lives on hopes and dreams. If we set up at a show with a bitch in season in the next tent or walking past - we would be better off packing up and going home - he just can't think with his brain, while he would look mighty nice he would be no good in the ring. When Charli (Pug) comes in season I will decide when it happens. I would be tempted to take her early or late in her season but she will be staying home while she is right on out of respect for those with males. I think it is unfair to make the girls stay home, especially the girls who come in more than twice a year, if they can hold it together why not, my girls are sooky buggers so would be better off at home anyway. Don't know what Charli will be like yet. As for this comment posted pages back - "Anyway what is 3 weeks out of your bitches show career or are those ribbons too important". While some may frown upon showing a bitch in season others will frown upon showing desexed dogs. At least showing a bitch in season is not against the rules...I know what I would rather be showing in hope of taking home a ribbon.
  14. I ripped the Classic off by $1 as well so did not numbers. But no Show no $1. Must have been something in the air - I did it too
  15. Apart from the usual comments than some people can come out with about Rottweilers - but - the "wally award" has gone to a potential puppy person who came to see rottweiler puppies - "I didn't know Rottweilers came in cream" - as Lizzy came running around the side of the house with the rottie pups. UM no they don't - that is a pug pup - not a rottweiler pup... :p At first I really thought she was joking - but sadly she was serious, no idea how I kept a straight face....but she topped it off with "I have had 3 Rottweilers so I know what I am in for" - maybe so - but clearly no idea that they only came in black/tan.
  16. Check out Ebay - lots to chose from there. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/HOT-PINK-Croc-MAKEU...#ht_3499wt_1139 Not as big as the one your after but heaps cheaper. I have one from them but in pink - not the hot pink.
  17. When was the chlorine changed? If it was done with in the last 48 hrs she could be in strife from a chemical reaction to the chlorine.
  18. It's a touchy subject but if they really want a Labradoodle the ALA is the place to look. Breeders follow a COE, breed to a standard, dogs are health tested and they are working towards having the 'breed' recognised by the ANKC. There is a BIG difference between an ALA bred "Australian Labradoodle" and a BYB/puppy farmed/pet shop lab x poodle. Each to their own ...but your friend may change their mind when they are given a price  On the other hand to call you "biased and crazy" for trying to give them the facts is just plain rude, and for that I wouldn't bother with helping these people again. Let them find out the hard way. Plus I suspect that any ethical breeder, ALA member included is going to tell them much the same as you already tried to. A former grooming client owns a male from a member of the ALA - they were always purebred owners and unfortunately the breeder who is a member of the ALA must have been a very smooth talker to suck this lady in. The conditions on the dog are unlike anything I have heard of from any breeder. HOWEVER when he was hip scored - he was TOO HIGH to breed on with and also a carrier of ???(forgot now) but this was not enough to have him desexed - they said that they will be right as long as they are very careful what he goes over.....so much for health testing. In my breed - that is enough for the chop - not without tears - but all over just the same. We had a falling out over this dog.
  19. One of our past family dogs was one of those - a dog who appeared very healthy on the outside but had some pretty serious health problems. He actually lived to be 12, but had seizures all his life and heart problems. He had a very unstable fearful temperament too, and I think he bit our whole family at least once, drawing blood on most occasions. Luckily he was only small, but it makes you think, 12 seems like a decent lifespan for a dog, but for a small (under 10kg), mixed breed, 12 years really isn't that long. 12 yrs is a long time to live with a dog who is not a healthy - happy member of the family. I would much rather 8 yrs with a healthy, happy dog who is a pleasure to live with than 12 yrs with a dog who isn't.
  20. I tell people if they are so set on the look of an oodle then why not check out the Lagotto and explain the benefits of going with a known breeder who health tests dogs... I really feel that the Lagottos have missed the boat in trying to get this breed known to the general public when the oodles went crazy it was the perfect time to educate people on why pay pedigree prices for a crossbreed dog when the Lagotto has all the benefits of .... I love Lagottos - one day....I will have one but that is a long way off.
  21. Just remind them that when things go wrong - you don't want to hear about it.
  22. I pay about $22 for a box of 12 patties. They're 250g each so 3kg in total. So in answer to your q about $7 per kg. Thank You If anyone wants info from me in regards to Barf please contact me privately - don't want to upset the apple cart again. Cheers. *I am having issues with the internet connection atm so may take a while to reply.
