  1. Yes true for amounts of anaesthetic drugs etc. but for the brachy breeds the type of anaesthesia and the need for a qualified assistant at the anaesthesia station is also very important. I bet I know one vet who is going to get a big detailed grilling tomorrow before a precious pug is handed over!!!!! All vet who handle one of my dogs gets a grilling regardless of breed. The last time I had a bitch spayed was Abby. I felt sorry for the poor bugger who not only got grilled on how I expected her to be handled but I was watching from the viewing area too . Now add that to how I will be with a Pug :D . Imagine what I was like when I had to leave Lizzy with the Emergency Clinic for an em c section - maybe that was why the bill was soooo big....
  2. Yes, I was thinking about that a few mins ago, will find out tomorrow.
  3. I didn't say what Vets but will now - WoofPurNay in Narre Warren SE Vic. I have been going to them for many years, before they built their new animal hospital. I also use another vet who is out of my way and far from cheap for all breeding related matters. Anyone who knows me also knows that I have had some massive vet bills in the past. I would have had her spayed sooner but frankly hate the thought of sedating a Pug, I know a few people who have lost pugs during surgery - Lizzy has already had an em c section and that was an awful feeling. I just hope she copes well with her spay. Not sure really why I started this thread other than I was surprised that the cost is much less than what I was expecting.
  4. Threads about desexing costs seem to come up a lot, but I generally don't take much notice. I have only desexed a few dogs over the years and have just booked Lizzy (4 yo Pug ~7-8kgs) to be spayed tomorrow getting her ready for her new home. I was expecting the cost to be around $200 - $250 but was pleased to be told it will be only $167. Sounds more than reasonable to me - especially for a Pug. Fingers crossed for Lizzy tomorrow. I know I paid more than this over 6 yrs ago for a small male fluffy to be desexed.
  5. I travel with a skin stapler for those just in case accidents when away from home. I don't have one but it would still be no good for me. I have had staples instead of stitches and passed out when the staples were removed. I would vomit if I had to use the staple gun on anything - so would have to pay a vet bill instead. I have had very little to do with dog injuries and even though it has been over 20 yrs since I had horses, some of the things they can do to themselves on fences are awful. WnH, I know what you mean - on a horse that would be no big deal but on a dog I would be off to the vets too. Glad all is well now.
  6. Hmm didnt copy the whole post here's the link intead post #14 http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/166125-leather-leads/page__p__3648948__hl__%22leather+lead%22__fromsearch__1#entry3648948 Thank you! The rubber band makes me think it could be 4 Paws who sold them. I have sent a message - THANK YOU !! I was just about to say try 4 paws, they were selling them on DOL. Another thought on the leads from K9 Pro - I have 2 of their leads, one plaited and one plain, the plain lead is very soft in the hands, not so much the plaited one. It may be different leather or just treated differently but the plain lead is a pleasure to use. I can take them next weekend to the shows if you want to check them out.
  7. Yes - I am aware of that - however I was just reminding Shelties N Danes about her comments to Dyzney in the other thread and felt a bit of fairness was called for. Personally I do not care who's mat people buy as long as they are happy with it.
  8. Um - Shelties N Danes, I am a little confused as to why you have posted in this thread about your gazebo mats when you made it quite clear that you objected to Dyzney posting about her mats in your thread. This thread was started out of respect for you since I wanted to discuss the gazebo mats that Dyzney sells - what about showing the same respect and if you want to to do a "yours V's mine" thread then please feel free to start another.
  9. Sharon - you know me too well. I don't have one yet but it's on my "want it" list.
  10. Well since I wanted to comment on your mats Dyz - I certainly did not want to get told off so I took advice from a poster and started a thread - just for you . I have given my wallet a flogging lately so will need to wait a bit before ordering - but think I rather fancy the purple mat. Will order when I can .
  11. Yeah we thought that too, since they have extended the dates we decided to enter 2 dogs (1 each). Will be my first Royal with a dog - last time I went to the Royal Melb Show was when the kids were small. Looking forward to it.
  12. Hey Dyzney, just had a better look at your mats and will be getting one from you in future. I was happy with my little cheapie until I saw yours.
  13. Anyone know if they would accept late entries? Never mind, just found it and no they don't.
  14. What was the blood work results that came back on Friday?
  15. And who will regulate them - Registered breeders get more restrictions while another puppy farm starts up - sucks big time!!
  16. For someone to steal gates it would have taken a lot of planning, makes you wonder how anyone would be that game. Then again my parents have had a motor bike and a caravan stolen from their property long with several other smaller items at different times. Just home that Karma does her best.
  17. I know of 2 litters of 9 but only 6 survived in one and 4 in the other. Hopefully all finished here. 8 babies, 4M and 4F ranging from 90grmas to 150grams. All happy and Healthy. Mum and babies all doing well. what an effort, poor little love will be glad that part is over - stay strong puppies. Beautiful pic.
  18. The only pups that I have know who were born with heart murmurs died before 6 months old - not all were purebred. I honestly think by keeping the pup you are setting yourself and son up for a lot of heartbreak.
  19. OMG Congrats and good luck! Sorry for the little one who didn't make it. Looking forward to pics :D
  20. Oh - I have been waiting for this, looking forward to heaps of pics. Good luck with the little one, no doubt a few will be small due to the amount she has stashed in there. Congrats to all who have puppies. I love sneaking in to the litter threads looking at all the puppy pics, I am in no hurry for my next litter so this way I still get my puppy fix.
  21. Don't think they go that high? http://www.bregorreyglens.co.uk/as.html http://dogs.lovetoknow.com/wiki/Canine_Heart_Murmur
  22. Yes he is a Mains Registered pup. The breeder is aware, although my vet states it has to be genetic, it is not 'proven' on paper. I don't really want to get into a discussion on the breeder as its a pretty raw topic of discussion at the moment. I am seeing the vet again next week so I'll talk to him about specialists. I have spoken to a lot of people who have dogs with heart murmurs not being treated by specialists, just their normal vets so I was sort of hoping to not have to go down that track. My vet can do echo's etc although he doesn't think its necessary in regards to his treatment...yet. I don't mind spending money on him....although he is a $3500 puppy at 16 weeks and my bank account would probably appreciate him not having to be seen by a specialist at this point in time. Sorry about your pup - but if this was mine I would be returning him asap and demanding a full refund. Is he a blue Stafford?
  23. It's great to hear that the owner is being responsible and trying to help out by taking his dog indoors when he can. Unfortunately if a dog in your care escapes your yard and enters your neighbours yard it would be your responsibility not his as it is your legal responsibility to keep dogs in your care or ownership contained in your own yard. Although I presume he would have to take you to court for damages regarding his bitch being impregnated as council could not do anything about that IMO it is the owner of the bitch on heat who is responsible for keeping her in a secure place where dogs cannot get to her. Myabe this is not legally correct - but it is the owner of the bitch that will have the problem!! BOTH would be at fault. The bitch owner for not keeping her safe (even if in her own yard) The dog owner/carer for not keeping him in his yard. Some dogs will do what ever is possible to get to a bitch in season - same with the bitch, not all have lovely manners - some actually go looking for it!
  24. But is it really? Carrots will go through a dog in chunks, does not mean the dog has a digestion problem. Looks like they had blood work done and will be back friday, if all comes back ok then what? Don't forget they have had the dog since he was 18 months old - he is now 3 1/2 YO. Edited: spelling?
