Oh - the poor girl, my Rottweiler bitch had mastitis with her first litter - it was awful. We were back/forward to the vets for a week trying to prevent it from happening. She had surgery to clean it up and had drain tubes . Hers burst all over the floor when we were at the vets while I was telling them about the bad night she had. We went to the em clinic - all the did was give her pain meds and ab's and told me to go to her vets in the morning. I expected them to do the surgery on the spot, it was weeping and I knew it was going to burst soon - it did 5 hrs later. She was in a bad way. Now she has a tiny scar that is hard to find, not bad considering it looked like a bullet wound. Good luck, hope she feels better soon and heals quickly.

You still have to groom the dogs first, the brush is only to be used on clean dry coats and says without liquid grooming products or it will damage the brush. You really don't need to use anything else anyway. I bought the brush for Charli and her coat was stunning while I was doing her daily - you notice a difference pretty much straight away with little effort. Would be great on the black pugs . The shine it has given the Rotties in such a short time is amazing - both girls have recently had seasons and have blown coat, but I have not seen them looking so nice for a long time. I am slack and will do most of my grooming in the bath using a kong zoom groom while washing them and the drier to blast the crap out of them and a light brush with the furminator. They really love this brush, it must feel nice - it's the only brush that I don't need to tell them to come here or stand while brushing them . Hamish has more correct coat then the girls, his is coarse and thick where as the girls are finer and softer, he still needs more grooming before I will use this brush on him though. Link. *This brush is not to be used on wet coats or with any liquid products, for they will oxidize the brass. It is intended to be used as a finishing brush on clean, dry coats. Lauren is leaving home next year and taking Piper with her when she leaves - she tells me that she is taking the CC brush with her....hmm - don't think so.. Sharon, next time I see you at a show, try it out. Hopefully those who recommended them will comment in here too.

About a month or so a go I bought a Chris Christensen Ionic brush for the dogs, paid more than I would have liked but can honestly say it is worth every cent . Just wanted to say thanks to those who have posted about this brush in the past :D .

Extremely Matted Dogs Owned By Colleague - What To Do?
Andisa replied to Alkhe's topic in General Dog Discussion
Maybe slip him groomers business cards, adds from the paper or flyers (leave them on his desk or his car windscreen wipers) and hope he does the right thing. Or report him to the RSPCA, the dog is in pain and would be very uncomfortable. Scissors are no good when so matted - must to be clipped off and will have to be SHORT.. -
It is quite easy to see why the dog world can never be united in any subject other than ones' own self interest when comments are made that show an obvious disregard for fellow exhibitors. I can only begin to imagine the uproar if I took my full in season bitch onto a ground being used for obedience etc. Apart from the obvious problems caused by both actions I would like to think that we would all show some consideration to fellow dog people. Then maybe Ive' been bought up wrong. so you make sure your male dog is toileted well away from the ring and other peoples belongings? Cause it annoys me when dogs piss all over everything. I showed my bitch in standing heat at the Melb Royal one year, told others near me that my bitch was in season, no problems. Showed my bitch in the early days of her season a couple of times, kept her locked up, toileted her away from everyone etc, wish some of the owners of male dogs were as considerate. This ^. I have shown my pug bitch in season (not standing) and I did warn others that she was in - even told the judges and they thanked me for letting them know. I keep wipes in my pockets if they need it and will do a quick wipe over the table if she dripped on it. The male stud dog who was sharing the same gazebo as us knew she was in season but was happy enough to sleep during the day. Personally I have bigger issues with people who toilet their dogs ON THE STAKES HOLDING THE ROPES around the rings - that is very poor taste. How would they like the job of packing them away after dogs have pissed on them all day. Oh and those who are too friggen lazy to pick up after their dogs when they crap . A few weeks ago at Bulla an exhibitor left grooming tools just beside our gazebo and when she came out of the ring she asked me if I knew where it went. Did a quick look around and pointed to a lady nearby and asked it that was hers - she asked her and she admitted to taking it. Just lucky I saw the tools on the ground, I would have hated it if she thought I took it. I think there are far worse things that go on in/around the ring than a bitch in season. eta: I have taken my male Rottweiler to shows (not entered) when the girls are in season (and stay home) so he has time away from them - no doubts there are dozens of bitches in season at the shows but he has not been bothered by them (yet). He has not been used at stud but lets me know a month before the girls come in and he lets me know when they are "ripe".

Supply and demand is what dives the price. The rarity of a dog does not necessarily demand a higher price; especially when there is no demand. Yes labs are common but they are also in high demand. So... breeders charge more just because they can? Ouch! I think you need to do some research on breeding, there is far more involved than what the potential puppy owner sees. If you want to pay me what the real costs are I would be thrilled. My last pup cost around $4000 due to complications and he was sold for only $1200. By the time you add up stud fees, vet bills including any prog tests A.I's and ultra sounds or xrays or c sections, extra food and any medication that they may need - and any whelping equipment that may need to be purchased or replaced. Time off work so the pups have undivided attention means no income for a several weeks - $1200 for a pup is bloody cheap.... I am not saying that money is not made from litters but if you were to do a yearly or 5 yr plan for those who only have the odd litter what profit is made from one litter has already been spent with problems that often occur in breeding - including loss of whole litters or worse still, loss of the bitch. I have spent thousands just like every other breeder and still been well and truly in the red when the pups are sold.
-
I would be very happy with that considering that I have paid $2100 and $2200 for after hours em c sections - and $1100 for an em c section within office hours.

What a great thread with lots of wonderful pics . I love this pic - looks like they were in pain having to be that close but they were buddies - honest . Muffin, Malt x (~12 yrs old, previous owners had no idea how old he was) and Piper at 2 1/2yrs old.

Congrats on you new puppy. I am sure you will be given lots of advice but I just wanted to say - ditch the weetbix. Your right about Pugs being little piggies, they sure love their tucker. I personally feed my dogs a raw diet including Barf and bones - they have dry food while growing, I don't use much dry food - the only dry I use is holistic organic. The diet you are feeding is ok, could do with a little tweek but not bad. Pop in to the Pug thread in the Breed Sub Forums, you will get lots of comments and advice about feeding all sorts of ways :D .

Where To Buy Tuffie Toys - Are They Puppy Suitable?
Andisa replied to Tara8430's topic in Puppy Chat
My dogs can be a bit hard on toys, the eyes and nose are the first to go. So I decided to get the sewing machines out and make up some tug toys. Cheap and easy and they love them. Have since added more to their collection. -
Thanks for the replies :D Well I have cut their food by half (not happy), will start the vinegar tomorrow (forgot this one) and will add dry parsley to their food too. Poor Piper (Rottie, will be 7yo in Jan) has heaps of milk, last week she had a little bit, it would not take much effort to bring her in full milk the way she is now - she is squirting.. Thinking about spaying soon so hopefully this will be her last one. Pink (3 yo Rottie) is about a month after her mother, she is already swelling, enlarged nipples and if I had of mated her I would be getting all excited right about now. Decided to cut her food back too (won't hurt her) and get an early start on her. Last time she had the worst phantom you could possibly imagine. She was a mess looking for her imaginary puppies, I better block off under the grooming shed, if she adds to that crater the shed would probably move. Time to get the girls out more and keep them busy but they will have to wait a little longer. Off to do matings with a friends bitch so mine will have to sulk until the weekend. And if Charli is on time then she will be joining in with the others a month later. Bloody hormonal bitches - would be nice if they didn't phantom every season .
-
I have always had big and small dogs and never had any issues. The pug I have now is a bit full on so she has very limited time with the Rotties until she settles down more. I think this is proof if they have the right temperament then anything will work out. Piper - 2 1/2yo Rottweiler bitch with her new born pups (a few weeks old), Lizzy - Pug pup (about 3 months old) and Muffin - elderly Maltese desexed male. We had 2 Aussies when I was a kid. We had Kelpies, Border Collies a Dobermann and a GSD at the same time that we had one of them - never had any issues at all with them.

What do you do to dry up bitches who phantom?
-
Almost all the dogs we had when growing up were entire and the majority of them were well in to their late teens and some were early 20's when they were pts or died - personally I think more health issues have come through processed foods, yearly vaccinations and monthly chemical flea/worm treatments than desexing - regardless of the age they are done.
-
While cancer is high in Rottweilers I can assure you that LOTS of entire Rottweilers have died from cancer - NOT just desexed Rottweilers. I agree with your breeder about waiting until the dogs have matured before desexing. Always best to get another opinion before agreeing to any type of surgery - after having personal run ins with a few vets who are very fast to suggest surgery, I would never rush in to any surgery (except for em c sections) unless I had specialist opinions.
-
yep - once you figure out the easiest way they go on within seconds. When they are in the spot you want them to be squash the ends with a pair of pliers and bend the ends in - makes them stay put and the ends are no probs either. Secure them with dog clips and your set. If you put the sides together - start at the top and turn the wires in the direction they want to go and keep going, they will spin on themselves if lined up right. I have used cable ties and the fencing ring/clamp (hog rings) and pliers, since I figured out how to use the spirals I have swapped most of them over.

jacqui835 - Would you be offended/upset if my dog walked up to you and pissed on you or your belongings?

Breed or titles has nothing to do with this behavior - he is marking people and their belongings which is shows lack of respect. He is obviously a smart dog and he needs to learn to use his manners. When Hamish (entire male Rottweiler) came back home at 15 months old he was already displaying the same bad behavior - he even pissed on me at dog training the first night I took him - and tried several other times that night. That went down like a lead balloon, it was an obvious sign that he lacked respect for me and everyone else that he had got away with doing it to. I called him all sorts of names and told his I hated him and more importantly told him that things are going to change big time and they did. All "freebies" (free affection) stopped and I treated him like a DOG! The only rewards or affection he got from me were earned - unfortunately for him I will hold a grudge so it took a bloody long time until he got on my good side again - now I absolutely love him :D . I would be furious if someones dog pissed on me or my things - I would never allow my dog to get away with it. Yes males will cock their legs but they can learn what is and what is not acceptable - no excuse for pissing on people...like them or not!

Vet For 2 Hour Result For Progesterone Testing

Thanks Sam - looks like I may be changing vets too. That is where Hamish used to go when he was with his previous home, I keep hearing lots of good things about them. -
Vet For 2 Hour Result For Progesterone Testing

Sam - I go to Monash and they have the results within a few hours. -
I use Karo Syrup - had a bottle in the back of the cupboard and did a google search and found that it lasts pretty much forever. It's not something that is easily found but I see that you stock it Sway - not missing an advertising opportunity ;) :D I have stocked it for years, nothing new there. ;) With a pending litter I was curious as to what others use as I have never used anything other then pre-packaged formulas. I was happy with the Wombaroo, preferred it over Di-Vetelact and Biolact. Goats milk on it's own was great but I found by adding the extras that the Leerburg formula has made a huge difference. It is quite thick and if bottle/tube feeding I would suggest less yogurt to thin it out a bit.

I thought they meant hips/elbows but I might be wrong.
