Why Is She Scooting Along On Her Bum? She's Wormed

OK, then I will. At the vet's? Or is a groomer's ok? -
I've always thought it smelled a little bit like weetbix and milk.

Why Is She Scooting Along On Her Bum? She's Wormed

No, no redness. Ok, I won't worry about it, glad to hard puppies do this. It's not usually after poos, but I won't worry. Thanks everyone. -
Why Is She Scooting Along On Her Bum? She's Wormed
Eileen replied to Eileen's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
No she's a staffy. Anal glands? Ewwww, do you mean that expressing thing I've read about on here? But she's only a little puppy, or does that not matter? -
As the topic says, my four-month-old puppy sometimes scoots along on her bum, which my mum always used to say meant the dog had worms, but she gets wormed. We were using an all-wormer, now Sentinel Spectrum. She's not due again till the 9th of Sept. Should I be worried, or does she just have an itchy bum for no reason?

I think this is wrong with my puppy too. If you go back to just kibble for 5 weeks, can she still have bones on which to to chew? -
Thanks, Sas, I think you are right. I will attend to the reading you've outlined.

Dante's similar, as a very young puppy we had a lot of trouble with him nipping and biting, that got sorted and now he's teething he's at it again, so we're giving him lot's of things to chew likes apples and chew toys etc etc. If she's getting 'shitty' with you when you're telling her what to do, sounds like she needs to be put back in her box, has she been to puppy school yet? In the early days, Dante would pack MASSIVE tantrums, he would scream, bite, throw himself around yadda yadda yadda, we found a great trainer to train us how to handle him more effectively and since the first session with her we are yet to see another tntrum...it all comes down to leadership, a dog throwing a tantrum is smply disrepecting you. Where do you live? That's being inconsistent and that's what leaders aren't Yes, she went to puppy preschool and now she goes to an obedience club. We live in Surry Hills in Sydney. By inconsistent, do you mean cos we were making her sit and now we don't, or do you mean allowed on couch on not on bed is inconsistent? Cos I guess both make sense.
-
Or to be more specific, weeing on whatever rug is on the couch. But never the other couch, which is the one my boyfriend usually sits on. They are both leather, but his couch is not with a rug. This is also a new thing. She's not done it before, and has done it on every new rug I've put on the couch in the last 4 days. She never wees in the house anymore, so I don't think it is a bladder thing. She is 4 months old, teething and being a little naughty all round. Do I have to ban her from the couch? Is she trying to claim it as hers?
-
Yes I think she is totally testing the boundaries. We did enrol at the local obedience club, but I am not 100% sure with the training how that helps her stop nipping and throwing tantrums when she doesn't want to do something. I know that sounds stupid, but we must be doing something wrong here. Because: she is quite quick to learn. She "heels" on lead when I am holding the lead the way they showed us. She can sit and drop no matter how many distractions are around. When the instructor shows us something new, Dolly is such a showoff, she picks it up quite quickly and then we do it at home too. I make her sit before food, she is not allowed on the bed, though she is on the couch; she was meant to sit before she came up but now she just barrels up. But yes, she nips again, which she had stopped and I just wish you could see what she does when she doesn't want to get off the couch, go outside, not come into the bathroom etc. There is all this groaning and sqeaking (staffy), together with rolling her head into the couch and half looking at us then rolling more. Then a few frustrated barks. It's totally like a little doggy tantrum.

She has never been too bad with toilet training (she is now 4 months old), we had very few accidents, but that is mostly cos we have always taken her out regularly. She has now started going to the door and sitting there waiting for us to notice her, and if we don't, after a bit, she has a little whimper to remind us. On the other hand, she is also teething, so she is being a little trying - she has gone back to nipping us, which she had totally stopped, plus she gets shitty if we tell her to do something she doesn't want to do - so it is kinda nice she is being so mature in another area!

Where Can I Take My New Puppy To Puppy School?!
Eileen replied to MyPuppyBuster's topic in Puppy Chat
When I first joined DOL someone recommended Sydney Animal Hospital's puppy preschool at Erskineville, but I wound up going to one closer to where I live. -
I give my pup (who was displaying some rather unnerving sep anxiety signs to begin with) one really high-value food item to distract her as I walk back in and close the door. She has toys, kongs and other bits and pieces all over our yard, but she gets a bone or a pig's ear - something she thinks is better than me - to cover my departure. Works quite well.
-
I'm sorry, I really don't have anything helpful to add, I just wanted to say what a beautiful puppy she is! And I am sorry she has been unwell, it is very stressful when there is something up with a puppy.
-
We were told it is mostly safe about 10 days after the second vacc, as long as you keep your pup moving and away from poos.

Update --- I read on another thread it is bad for the dog's digestive system to feed it mixed kibble with raw food in the same meal as it mucks up their digestion, as the two types of food are digested at different speeds. So, I thought maybe this is the reason for the extra poos? So am trialling feeding her the Hills kibble at one meal and the veges, meat etc at another and see if there is a reduction in poos. I am sure no-one is interested in this anymore, but I felt strangely compelled to post my discovery. Bloody addictive forum!

I know what you mean re the herbs. I had a lovely big ornate terracotta pot in the backyard that our staffy loves to curl up in and munch on the basil. Followed by the parsley. She's not too fussed on the rosemary though. Lol
-
Can I ask why? Yes, of course! The main reason I make up her food, so if anything happened to me or I got sick or something and she was switched over to all dry food she wouldn't get a fright. Also when we go camping and stuff it would be good to take along dry food instead of all the bizz. Also, and this is secondary, but I read on one of the threads here that you need to only feed 22% of protein compared to the rest of the puppy's diet so she doesn't get east-west feet (which I wasn't sure if I was being paranoid, but I thought maybe her feet stuck out a bit?)

After I read this last night I went and checked Dolly's mouth (she is nearly 4 months) and she is missing a couple of those tiny little ones on the front down the bottom. So cute, she looks like a kindy kid! We've been leaving her a bone every morning before we go to work and she is still firmly attachd to them when we get home, so it must feel good for her to be able to dislodge her teeth. Next step, hopefully those fishhook-shaped canine teeth that caught in my pyjama bottoms!
-
OK I guess the general consensus so far is it is the Hills causing the excess poos. I was a little worried it might have been the oil. I'll look at some alternative dry food, cos even though I quite like giving her vegies etc, I'd like her to be used to eating dry food too.
-
My almost-4-month staffy girl does 4-5 poos a day, but they are all very firm and relatively dark. (They're not stinky either). We feed her Hill's puppy small bites mixed with a bit of grated raw pumpkin or carrot and some type of green veg, plus a variety of chicken necks, brisket bones and occasionally lamb bones, sometimes a bit of sardines or tuna and a tiny drizzle of safflower oil or olive oil (this last was recommended by her breeder, cos after she'd been at our place for a couple of days her skin got a bit dry). Oh and she gets an egg yolk once a week. Anyway, the puppy preschool lady and the vet both said Hill's was premium etc and meant less poos, etc, but she seems to be doing more - and I've noticed over the last couple of days they're getting bigger (longer, that is, sorry to be graphic, but I wanted to be clear). It almost seems like she's pooing more than she's being fed, but her coat is beautiful and she doesn't look too thin. Am I just being paranoid?

From what age can she get pregnant?
